I'm not alone in thinking the early chapters of the manga make Domino look like a complete rat-hole, am I? Bullying and teen gang activity at epidemic levels, teachers and other authority figures not only are powerless to do anything about it, but often participate themselves, even the museum curator is an amoral plutocrat who sells important artifacts on the black market.
The pig of Hufflepuff pulsed like a large bullfrog. Dumbledore smiled at it, and placed his hand on its head: "You are Hagrid now."You are not alone. I'm surprised Yugi never moved since he got beat up Once an Episode at least. Death-T was a live event, too, and the crowd loved seeing Yugi and friends fighting for their lives.
I hafta wonder who took care of the normal jerks in Domino while all the card games were going on.
The Protomen enhanced my life.Other supernaturally empowered players of board/tabletop/video games?
Yugioh GX did a similar thing for half of its run with.....really mixed results. I eould like to see more of that however the reason some fans got into Yugioh because of its mythology and the the plot.
"Analay, an original fan character from a 2006 non canon comic. Do not steal!"What's weird is that this isn't emphasized as much later on. The city's association with the card game to end all card games caused an economic boom and prosperity increase, maybe?
The pig of Hufflepuff pulsed like a large bullfrog. Dumbledore smiled at it, and placed his hand on its head: "You are Hagrid now."Maybe all the Shadow Games discouraged people from being jerks.
The Protomen enhanced my life.Or just killed all the jerks.
One Strip! One Strip!I'm just amused at how casually everyone accepts magic. It's obvious that most people in Domino live unaware of the Shadow Game stuff, but when they encounter it, they accept it at face value without trying to figure anything out.
And then they cheat or proclaim victory too early. Or both.
At least Imori knew what he was getting into, the creepy kid.

The Protomen enhanced my life. Not just those people either. Yugi's friends witness Shadi's magic and learn about the other Yugi that came from the Millennium Puzzle, and their reaction is essentially "Okay, cool. That's a thing now."

Did the Zexal manga ever explain what was with the guy who was able to call Shadow Games, control spiders, and seemed to be a descendant of Koji "The Spider" Nagumo? I wonder how he got his powers. https://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Kyoji_Yagumo
EDIT: Wow. XD
" According to author Shin Yoshida, E'Rah was initially never meant to appear and Kyoji Yagumo was to be the final antagonist; however, he developed E'Rah's role after artist Naohito Miyoshi "started grumbling" that he was "sort of tired of drawing Yagumo" and Yoshida hastily came up with E'Rah to keep Miyoshi engaged with drawing.
E'Rah is the first female main antagonist, the second being Eve. Coincidentally, they are both manga only characters."

The Protomen enhanced my life.Yeah, the Zexal manga was a total mess. Also, it's pretty much the exact same thing that Naruto pulled.

Des Shinta, the youtube video guy I linked to last page, claims Atem is apparently a worse duelist when he isn't bonded with Yugi. What do you guys think of that claim?
Yugi's always been the superior one to me, just not the confident or resilient one. Yugi's always shown to be really good even without Atem around, he just doesn't have the same willpower or stamina Atem has most of the time.
Yugi didn't exactly have an amazingly hard time beating Kaiba in DSOD- and, yes, he did beat Kaiba as that set card could've only been poly.

Atem is a good duelist but Yugi is better in that regard. This isn't to say that that Atem is bad duelist or gamer as he knows things that not Yugi doesn't know but Yami projects a lot of confidence that he looks superior to Yugi. Wasn't Atem called the 'Invincible Pharoah' or is it an anime thing?

"Analay, an original fan character from a 2006 non canon comic. Do not steal!"After hearing that claim from the youtuber, I began to think about the manga in general and how it handled the two characters. Overall, I think Atem is the better gamer between him and Yugi, but Yugi proved himself capable of being better at Duel Monsters in the Ceremonial Battle. And as Nick said earlier, Yugi is more than capable of beating Kaiba as well.

Too bad we never got a Joey-Kaiba tag duel, if only for the sheer hilarity of how badly they'd trip and insult each other and how in the hell they'd manage to win in the end.
Wake me up at your own risk.Kaiba pulls a dick move that eliminates Joey and his opponents.
Because when it comes to Joey, being a dick is the only way the latter knows how to act.
One Strip! One Strip!Random question, but did Bonz actually die from Bakura's Penalty Game? Penalty Games are, of course, illusions, but we never do see him again. Unless you count Reshef, where he's apparently fully recovered and is now a successful tour guide at a tomb in Italy...
The pig of Hufflepuff pulsed like a large bullfrog. Dumbledore smiled at it, and placed his hand on its head: "You are Hagrid now."Yugi has been stronger than Atem since the beginning, but rarely had the confidence to show it. Not specifically in gaming, but in moral character and spirit.
They may be illusions, but it's shown that if the illusion kills you, then you actually die, sort of like a placebo.
Not all Penalty Games are illusions, like the Mind Doll and the set-on-fire ones. In the manga he just flat-out killed him and in the subbed anime he sent him to Hell.
If Bakura had lost that duel he'd have been screwed. XD
I read an interview where Kazuki Takahashi said he considers Joey to be a stronger character than Yami Yugi and Kaiba because he can take loss well, though with how games in YGO are Serious Business with lives on the line, losing is almost never good in-universe XD;

The Protomen enhanced my life.Because when it comes to Joey, being a dick is the only way the latter knows how to act.
Or Joey single-handedly saves Kaiba ass and wins the duel in one turn while everyone stands mouth agape. As Joey walks away, he reminds Kaiba that he has the Red Eyes B. Dragon meaning he beat Atem before Kaiba ever did.
I would love to see how that duel went, but in the meantime this is probably the best fanfic version of it I've read.
The Protomen enhanced my life.
I would love that, and you bring up a good point about how Joey must have beaten Atem to get back Red eyes...but did he ever get it back in the Manga. We know he has it again in the anime and I know this isn't the DB thread where only manga occurrences are treated as counting, but I believe they just straight to the memory arc and Joey doesn't duel again there, so we don't know if he ever won it back.
I prefer your version though. Now it's simply a matter of if the writers would ever consider doing that, because we all know they love Kaiba to bits.
Still, if Joey and Kaiba ever had a duel, that's how I'd want it to go.
One Strip! One Strip!
Has Ushio made his required cameo in Vrains yet?
EDIT: I love that this writeup on the real-life Seal of Orichalcos emphasizes how broken it would be if it was exactly as seen on TV, and how Yugi only tried to destroy it once XD
“Now imagine that The Seal of Orichalcos, the most desired previously TV-only card of all time, both A. put monsters where they don’t belong and B. did it in a way that is entirely unlike every other card in the game that puts monsters into Spell & Trap Card Zones. It would be chaos. Friendships would be destroyed. Duels would start to look a lot more like Joey VS Valon in all the wrong ways.“
“Other Field Spells could be activated and did remove the Seal from the field. It’s just that the only person who ever did it was Dartz, and his other Field Spells shared the Seal’s power. Yugi tried to destroy it once and then never tried it again, trusting Gurimo (a noted criminal and crazy man under the influence of the Seal) at his word that it totally can’t be destroyed no way, no how, can’t leave the field, definitely-not-lying-I-swear.“
