Up until halfway through college, I was convinced 'ethereal' was pronounced in a way consistent with the word 'urethra.' No one ever said it out loud.
'Eidolon,' too, is spoken to rhyme with ride-along. I looked it up, and it's 'eye-DOLE-un,' but the correct pronunciation refuses to stick.

The latest episode of Extra Credits taught me the correct pronunciation of Mojang: "MOH-yang", because it's Swedish.
Still waiting for someone to break him free...I always pronounced Jhonen Vasquez and Jo-nehn Vahs-quehz. It's actually pronounced Yo-nehn Vahs-kehz. Can you blame me for getting that wrong? I mean look at that spelling!

What happened? Why am I not allowed to post anymore!?Surely I can't be the only one who used to think that Sigmund Freud's last name was pronounced "Frood"?
Very good kittyAnd now everybody thinks Freud is the world's biggest geek.
There was a Hanna Barbera cartoon called The Adventures Of Don Coyote And Sancho Panda, which was sort of a kid-friendly, Funny Animal take on the premise of the novel.
I forget where I first encountered the word "fascist" as a kid, but I interpreted it as "facist" and thought it had something to do with being prejudiced against someone for their facial features. Even when learning the correct definition the "face-ist" pronunciation stuck with me a little while.

I thought I was pronouncing Kielbasa wrong my whole life because people on TV pronounce it completely different than everyone in my area. Turns out we are pronouncing it the correct way it is pronounced in Poland but we always use the plural form of the word.
