As semi-official spokesman, I've been asked to explain the proposed "solution".
btw anyone who's still here or is just interested in playing is probably gonna want to read this
Anyways, yeah, this was a rough start to the game. We jumped the gun a bit in our eagerness to get started on this game, along with a GM mixup. That's not in dispute. But there's another thing that needs addressing.
Part of the reason why the game signup was somewhat sparse with details was that it was intended to let the players have a say in the setting. Think up interesting cities to visit, unusual new creatures to find, local legends and myths and rumors, stuff like that. Of course, when people can throw in anything, their understanding of "anything" is different from the person to their right and their left.
So
a) We're gonna need to pause or slow down the game for now, because we're going to try and compile/explain the base elements of the game for people who are still confused/curious about certain aspects of the setting before we go further
b) While we're compiling all of this information, you guys can contribute your own ideas for the game in this discussion thread, whether to help flesh out the setting to help your own character or to just introduce aspects you think would be cool. I don't know if we will include everything, but if you talk to us we'll definitely be able to work out something.
We Are Our Avatars Forever (Now on Discord by invitation, PM)It's a bummer this will have to be delayed but I do have an idea for dealing with paladins and maguses.
You cannot cast magic in combat. However if you know you're going into a fight or find a place to hide after one starts you can "charge" a weapon with elemental magic that lasts a certain amount of time before wearing off. Therefore magus/paladin's get more raw power than mages but at the expense of having a time limit in their fights. Maybe set the time of the "charge" by the number of posts made by the player.
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing.Rhyme its not even just that any more, due to actualy talking things out, something that for some reason does not happen in this thread.
We came to the conclusion that if people wanted we could even run an all mage party, just not THIS all mage party.
And that's why we decided it would be best to just pause, and figure out what we all want before we go any farther.
@ Aqua : I know the feeling, but we have tried this cursed ship before, and it has failed before, it is better to be a bit more cautius this time around.
Considering the magic system is how things got entangled and how so many people started with mages, starting there might be a good idea? I mean, if people want magic to be more central, might as well make sure the concept and limits are airtight.
Sure.
To Rhyme: "We had a big blowout tonight over miscommunication. That sucked. We don't want it happening again. So we're gonna make sure everyone, and I mean EVERYONE is in the know for the important shit. And if you have other things you want brought up or comments to make, say it now."
Does that help a bit?

We Are Our Avatars Forever (Now on Discord by invitation, PM)Hmm.... How about while there is an eldritch plane, it connects to Aerith at certain points bringing in mana. Those born near these points have a chance at developing inherent magic, like D&D sorcerors. However there are also those that through meditation travel mentally into the eldritch plane, becoming the eqiivalent of wizards/clerics in D&D.
Born mages tend to grow up doing whatever they're passionate about and integrating magic into it, focus mages on the other hand tend to be specialists that rely on magic, and as a result tend to be able to do more with it.
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing. No, I am asking you what you want.
The magic thing is mostly done I think, Chuck has been tasked with typing up the post but he is busy IRL right now.
@ Neon : Depends on what we work out, I think it would be good to talk about the party in advance, and work out who wants to play a mage and why.
So that we know what were going to work with, and how to acount for it, and don't get the entire party the same agian.

oh? im not i fan of the explode or go crazy to be honest. im hell confused with rules and what the gms want. so may i respectfuy withdraw form the game?
