With the Crowner called, do we want to discuss alternate names or is everyone okay with Must Be Invited? I'm fine with the latter.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.Must Be Invited is the obvious choice. There'd need to be a pretty fantastic suggestion for it not to get my vote.
Another for Must Be Invited.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickThat seems to be enough; unless last minute objections arise, I'll star this thread with the request to rename to Must Be Invited.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanOr, you know, because vampires are by far the most well-known example. It's a bad name, but it's not like it was chosen at random.
Writing a post-post apocalypse LitRPG on RR. Also fanfic stuff. So, can we move the page to Must Be Invited and start changing the wicks? Or is there anything else to consider first?
I don't like Must Be Invited because it doesn't imply anything whatsoever about fantasy creatures. Without any context, it sounds more like a bouncer keeping someone out of an invitation-only event of some kind. I can't say whether or not this will actually create misuse, and maybe it won't, but it just sounds like a really bad trope name to me. Like, one of the worst I've ever seen.
... so maybe we do need more discussion on the name first, after all. Or at least a crowner vote.
I can see that Must Be Invited does not make clear that it is a trope about supernatural creatures.
Crown Description:
What would be the best way to fix the page?

When a work uses vampires, it will often not have them with Looks Like Orlok. That doesn't mean the trope isn't a trait that people associate with vampires. I've never claimed it is an "always on" trait for vampires; Our Vampires Are Different is a trope because not even blood-sucking nightcrawler is an "always on" trait. It is included as a baseline trait by others, including the page Our Vampires Are Different.
What I've claimed is that the trope is more strongly associated with vampires than with any other supernatural figure, and that makes a legitimate Sub-Trope. Non-vampire characters who demonstrate the trait are compared to vampires, instead of faeries, gremlins, or hags. None of the creatures which both demonstrate this trait, and have an Our Monsters Are Different page on this site, have this trope mentioned as a default.
As for the crowner blanking, it is a temporary issue which you can read more about here.
