Nothing I've seen this season is great, but Nisekoi, UBW and Shokugeki no Soma are all fairly good. They all have some clear issues, though. Nisekoi requires you to be able to appreciate writing that really does not give a shit about actually being good in favor of somehow ending up entertaining. UBW is well animated, but the pacing is pretty rough, the bonus scenes added in are all terrible except for one and it's a bit too talky without keeping things visually interesting. Shokugeki's pacing is a bit too slow and there are some rather splendid failures when it tries to be sexy, especially early on and when Ikumi is around.

Oregairu continues to be great. Kekkai Sensen is good when it's good though definitely lacking a coherent path of progression. Arslan Senki is good but it's taking its sweet time to actually do anything, as we are about 8 episodes in and still introducing characters and basic plot build up. Jojo is...Jojo so nuff said for existing fans. Highschool Dx D Bo RN is alright but definitely weaker than it's predecessors.

I think that about covers it for me. The rest is either not to my taste and i haven't bothered reading into it/watching it or just bad. Or both.

Oregairu is great, if you liked the first season. Euphonium is pretty good if you like guild drama, I mean band drama. I would say UBW is actually kind of bad at this point: the pacing highlights the bad parts (that dialog, oh my god), while downplaying the cool parts.

Yeah the pacing of UBW is terrible.

UBW opened my eyes to how garbage a VN can be and still be popular if there are tits in it.

It's amazing that the Butcher managed to get anything good, let alone great from those bones.

Ore Monogatari is good, if you like romantic comedies that play with the tropes and trappings of the genre.

Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches is good.

Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken's second season is still good, mostly because it never overstays its welcome, and gives room to the secondary characters instead running jokes into the ground.

Sound! Euphonium is a moderately good drama machine with gorgeous cinematography.

Dan Machi has its ups and downs, but I still find it enjoyable.

I had higher hopes for Plastic Memories, but the plot got lost after episode 2, and the characters fail to connect in any meaningful way.

Episode 8 sealed it for me: Punchline is fucking amazing.

Please be more civil. That game is one of the most engaging and breathtaking novels I ever read.

But, yeah, the animators made some questionable choices recently. It's like they lost their touch for drama. Maybe they got complacent? The first season wasn't as bad.

[up][up]No, but implying the fans only like it due to the porn factor is.

And speaking of that.... I can vouch that most Type-MOON fans think The sex scenes suck.

The H scenes are hilarious, if you like cringe comedy.

The main issue with the VN is the Nasu-grade verbiage vomit that confuses plot and character building with dumping tons of words on the reader's head.

Ufotable has been able to tone Nasu down a notch, and tighten up the plot and characterization a fair bit — something they also managed with Kara no Kyoukai — but it still "shines" through when the pacing slows down.

Given that the cour is set to end in two-three weeks, I thinks it's time for tropers in this thread to name what they think are the highs and lows of this season.

The seven categories: Anime of Spring 2015, Worst Anime of Spring 2015, Most Surprising Anime of Spring 2015, Most Disappointing Anime of Spring 2015, Best Voice Acting, Best Episode, Best OST.

  • Anime of Spring 2015: This cour might have gotten a bit of stick, but it has come up with some pretty damn good series. Because I can only name one, however, it has to be Blood Blockade Battlefront. An unorthodox story, perhaps, but its lively characters, its fulfilled portrayal of New York, excellent animation, and awesome OST really drives this series home.
  • Worst Anime of Spring 2015: Vampire Holmes. Even thinking about it makes my head hurt.
  • Most Surprising Anime of Spring 2015: Hibike! Euphonium. I was fearing that it was going to be a K-On clone from a studio that has slipped in recent years, but instead we got a gripping story, strong characters, beautiful animation and solid choice of music. Kyoto Ani is back, ladies and gents.
  • Most Disappointing Anime of Spring 2015: Plastic Memories. Yes, I knew this was going to be a romance series from day one, but its intriguing and high-concept sci-fi premise of androids being incorporated in human society and the presence of an android euthanasia service is well and truly squandered. It's nice to have some good characters, but the comic relief is a waste of time that could have been spent on developing the show's world. And the thing is, this show was not written by a newcomer to the industry, it's from the creator of Steins;Gate for crying out loud. This article sums up my disappointment, but I'll finish this series nonetheless (if nothing else than to help keep the show's pages up to date).
  • Best Voice Acting: The Heroic Legend of Arslan. Every voice perfectly fits the traits of each character and helps me become more engaged with Arslan's goal of reclaiming Pars from the Lusitanians.
  • Best Episode: For me, this was unquestionably Episode 6 of Blood Blockade Battlefront. While it was arguably a side-story, the depiction of Leo's growing friendship with Nej and the lead's personal growth as a result is one of the most heartwarming things I've ever seen in an anime.
  • Best OST: Blood Blockade Battlefront, for its eclectic mixture of various genres including rock and jazz.

High points of the season:

  • Ore Monogatari: the romance that's actually about the bromance.
  • Dan Machi is the poorly written self insert fic that panders to my ego, which is why I enjoy it.
  • Kekkai Sensen coasts through my brain with its slick sense of style.
  • Owari no Seraph is rather generic as far as post-apocalyptic scenarios go, but hell I'm a sucker for those. Plus the painted backdrops are amazing. Best background art, seriously.
  • Baby Steps for still being Baby Steps— technical tennis goodness.
  • Hibike Euphonium. Episode 8 is a damn masterpiece.
  • Oregairu really upped its game from S1. Almost all the characters have gotten some meat in them. Err, the character depth kind of meat.

Watching a bunch of other stuff that I think are decent to good. Nisekoi, Punch Line, Sidonia, etc.

Late on Golden Mosaic, Yamada and the Seven Witches, Arslan Senki and Mikagura Gakuen no Kumikyoku.

Most disappointing show would be Plastic Memories. Decent for what it is, but kind of squandered its premise for generic romance anime shenanigans. A pity.

Pleasant surprises would be Gunslinger Stratos and Houkago no Pleiades.

Between the two shows I started this season only one isn't going through an arc so annoying that I refuse to watch it, so I guess Souma wins.

@fillerdude: I just got volumes 1 and 2 of the Danmachi LN, so I'll find out if it's poorly written or not. The anime though, has atrocious pacing.

Give the God Eater game thread some love!

[up][up] That it does. Not too bothered by the turtle-like pace personally (outside of some instances of contrivances and padding), but it's there. Manga was better in this regard, though sometimes it's a bit too fast.

[up] That was dope.

Hmm, let's see...

Anime of the Season:

Oregairu, amongst returning shows(great character development) and Hibike! Euphonium, amongst actual new shows(good band drama and cool characters).

Worst Anime of the Season:

Not sure, really. I'd say Vampire Holmes but I never watched it past the first episode. But considering that Vampire Holmes is the first show I actually dropped with sheer apathy... But it's just a short, so it really doesn't count!tongue

Most Disappointing:

Plastic Memories. If I just focus on the romance and some character moments, it's good. BUT, it just feels as though this interesting premise wasn't used to its fullest potential...

Most Surprising:

Etotama: Decided to watch on a whim, and haven't looked back. I like the show's humor, and its CG is top-notch.

Yamada and the Seven Witches: Actually thought it was going to be more action-y, but I thought wrong. Doesn't matter, because it's a fun show. I'll leave it to the manga readers to judge if it was a good adaptation.tongue

Mikagura School Suite: I was going to ignore this, because it's based off music videos. After the empty feeling Mekaku City Actors left me with, I wasn't so sure about this one. So I watched and...it's a totally awesome and energetic show! I love it! It helps that it's not actually tied to its music, or something like that...?tongue
