"Elder Tale"- A very popular MMORPG game with a history that stretches into twenty years. Each subsequent update and patch adds amazing new content to this game based on a magical and medieval version of a post apocalyptic Earth, filled to the brim with epic quests and fiendish monsters. Boasting millions of dedicated players worldwide and 20 million accounts having been made in its long life, this game is quite the phenomenon.

Then, on the twelfth expansion pack [Homesteading the Noosphere], something went wrong. Logged on players now find themselves on the other side of the computer screen, experiencing the fantasy world in first person as their own customized avatars. Now, the players must figure out exactly how to survive in this new world until they can find a way home.

— Setting —

Elder Tale is created using a special engine called the Half Gaia Project, which uses satellites to map the current Earth in real time and uses it to create a fantasy world at half the scale, along with real time systems of days and weather patterns to authenticate a dynamic world. Servers are countries and continents that each host very different dungeons and cities that are inspired by the history of that region with major real world cities as hubs like Japan's Tokyo as Akiba or North America's New York and Los Angeles as Big Apple and South Angel respectively.

This new Elder Tale is also a juxtaposition of real world physics and in game mechanics due to the Third World Fraction that grafted the game of Elder Tale onto the real world setting. As such, while you can grow hungry and feel pain, you can also read stats of virtually everything and are also superhuman and can do feats that all Adventurers can do such as break stone with your bare hands and run at excess of 50 km per hour depending on your class and stats. Lose enough HP and you will die by mortal wounds, only to revive at the Cathedral with a penalty of losing your experience and items. NP Cs known as [People of the Land] or [Landers]that were previously little more than automatons with prerecorded messages are now fully sapient entities, all with their own personalities, hopes and dreams. The same could be said for monsters, which are gaining intelligence and breaking out of preset patterns and spreading through territories they should be confined to...

Our Tale, rather than the Japan of the official material, is set in Western Europe. There are 6 hub cities on the Western Europe Server, corresponding roughly in location to Rome, Toulouse, Paris, Madrid, Berlin, and Constantinople/Istanbul (Greek and Turkish players love to argue about this). Southern Germany and the Alps are well known as the some of the most dangerous zones on the server (packs of high-level werebeasts stalk the area in numbers), as a general rule players don't try to get from Southern Europe to Northern Europe until they are around level 70. Southern Europe is more new-player friendly, and the farther north you go the tougher things tend to get. The hub city that corresponds to Berlin is where many raid guilds like to operate out of since the dungeons there give the best loot as well.

Politically, there are several major entities among the Landers. The Balkans and Greece are ruled by a single empire, the Alvian Dominion, which purports to be a successor state to the extinct Alvs themselves. The region is stable for the common folk, though deadly games of court intrigue have hampered the ability of the dominion to spread its influence. In northern Germany along the Baltic is the Kingdom of the Pom, isolated by the were-forests, whose tough inhabitants have managed to survive by learning to tame wargs, and still keep their polytheistic religion. Gallia (France) is divided into Aquios in the South and Berre-Mortonge in the North, ruled by kings who both seek each others lands. Andaland, the Iberian Peninsula, is ruled by several small duchies, united in keeping the influence Gallia out, but otherwise focused on keeping their own independence. The Italian peninsula is divided up into city-states, each vying for power with no clear leader.

Unease is forming among the region's inhabitants, as the number of werebeast raids has sharply increased as of late, and rumors of black ships seen in the Southern Seas. Our heroes' tale is centered around Seven Hill, the Hub city corresponding to Rome on more familiar maps. It is a large city with ancient city, not only acting as a hub city with a Cathedral for players, but also the home of some famous Lander NPCs.

And so we're off with a Log Horizon RP. Below is the character sheet for character submissions:

— Sign Up Sheet —

  • Name: (Names are done in the style of Handles or Usernames, since the thing used to be an MMO after all. You can choose to use/include real world names too if you want that as extra)
  • Gender: (Mention Both IRL and in game if you would like to)
  • Bio:
  • Appearance: (Links and/or text both work, I'm not picky.)
  • Personality:
  • Race: Races to choose from.
  • Class: The twelve combat oriented playstyles of the game, divided into the four groups of Warriors, Weapon Specialists, Healers, and Magicians. They are as followed. Each comes with their own builds too, which could strengthen their pros and mitigate their weaknesses. Also note that each server has special classes that replace one of the standard twelve with minor changes. As such that wiki links for Templar, Exorcist and Paladin, which are special classes on the European server link to the Japan server counterparts. I added blurbs on how I imagine they would differ from the norm, but if you have other ideas I'm completely flexible.
    • Guardian: A very defensive class with high HP and Def, usually either wielding shields or two handed weapons in heavy armor. They are the quintessential tanks and hold a variety of defensive and aggro skills to control enemy mobs. Unfortunately they are a bit on the slow side and don't deal out above average amounts of damage normally.
    • Paladin: Warriors that can wield a variety of weapons, with bonuses for two-handed weapons and polearms that have good single-strike power. Their base defense rivals that of Guardians, though they don't have as many defensive skills and can only equip small heater shields, so overall they aren't able to tank as well. In a melee the Paladin class is built around big swings with good knockback potential, however they have somewhat long cooldowns on their skills compared to the skill-spamming monks. Paladins are special amoung the "Pirate" incarnations in that they have a level 20 quest for a summonable warhorse that allows them to fight on horseback for a brief time, provided they are not in a dungeon or a raid. Jousting tournaments are popular on the European server for this reason. The most common Paladin builds the spitting image of a mounted knight.
    • Monk: An evasive tank with the highest base HP stat in the game, but cannot equip shields and any armor above cloth, resulting in rather flimsy defense. To counteract this, they have naturally high evasion rate. They are the opposite of the Samurai in that their skills have very short cooldown times. Among the warrior classes, they boast high damage potential.
    • Assassin: A damage oriented class built towards burst DPS and one-hit kills. They wield a variety of weapons both melee and ranged and can cause poison debuffs but are rather flimsy and lacking in defense.
    • Swashbuckler: They have the most health and defense among the Weapon Specialists and concentrate on long DPS combo chains. Though each individual hit is much weaker than an Assassin's, they can keep their attacks for much longer as well as cause various debuffs on the enemy. Known for their dual wielding as a class specialty.
    • Bard: A Weapon Specialist support class that uses Music Magic to buff allies and debuff enemies. On their own, Bards have low combat prowess, but in parties or raids, their continuous buffs contribute greatly to the battle. They have many, many songs, each focusing on increasing specific stats.
    • Templar: Priests and clergyman who work for the gods. They are known for healing huge amounts of damage in one go as well as their Holy based magics. They can equip plate armor, which makes them harder to kill than normal too. The Western Server's unique take on the Clerics, the Templars, also are capable of wielding powerful holy magic to debuff and root undead and demonic enemies.
    • Druid: A Healer who wields power over natures and all things green. They specialize in "Heal Over Time" spells and has a fair amount of offensive and defensive magics at their disposal too, making them well rounded.
    • Exorcist: Healers who break the mold with their very weak healing magics. Instead, they specialize in prevention of damage in the first place or outright damage nullification through barriers and holy wards. They also make effective nukers against "evil" monsters like undead and demons, and can purify away almost any status effects including those inflicted by raid bosses.
    • Sorcerer: The magic users notable for being the nukes in the game. Extremely high fire power and mastery over elemental magics, but they chug MP like a thirsty man does with a single bottle of water and they are very very squishy.
    • Summoner: They can summon a myriad of different creatures of all shapes and sizes to help out in battle, with their Summons being able to take on the roles of pseudo-classes due to the many varieties and abilities they can call upon. That said, there's a limit on how much they can summon and have to manually make contracts with their creatures by completing quests rather than leveling up.
    • Enchanter: An inherently support magical class with very weak physical and magical attack. Their specialties are buffing their allies and weakening their enemies, making soloing very hard on them. As such, they are the most unpopular class in the game. Those who master their abilities though are said to be able to turn the tides of many losing battles. They are also the anti-Sorcerer, having the highest MP of any class and skills that don't use much MP.
    • Subclass: The secondary class that any Adventurer can use. They are divided into Production (which can craft items) to Role-playing (which provide stat boosts and certain skills). List of sample Subclasses. Feel free to come up with one of your own making too if you feel like you want a custom one. Just try to avoid anything too OP like, say, Dragon Rider. Also, thanks to darksidevoid for providing another list that's been translated from moon runes. Again, try not to choose anything too OP, even if it's in the list.
  • Level: Ranging from 1 to 90. 90 was the cap before the expansion that triggered the Catastrophe, the new cap is 100.
  • Guild (Optional): Long-term organized groups of Adventurers that your character may belong to. If you can think of one for added fluff. If you think of a name, then give a brief description of what they focus on such as crafting, raids, etc.
  • Items: Quintessential gear necessary for taking on the hostile world of Elder Tale by providing stat increases as well as other such effects. They have ranges from Normal (items with no effect whatsoever), to Magical (has one or two abilities with a prefix or a suffix tacked on the names) to Artifact (quite rare and powerful) to Phantasmal (very rare and incredibly powerful; only one of its name on every server. Ex: 50 Phantasmal-class items, each with a unique name, would be the only Item of its kind on said Server). There are also Production Class Items which are crafted by Adventurers and can range from normal to Artifact class depending on items and Levels of Subclass used. Item Ranks in more detail.
  • Custom Skills: Here is a google spreadsheet of skills from a LH tabletop RPG created by the original novel author himself. I don't intend to use this system (if for no other reason that I haven't read up on it), but if you want to use skills that aren't in this list please add them in signup. You don't need to come up with detailed damage mechanics or anything, but a general description (shoots three fireballs) is required. If you're doing a Pirate, Exorcist, Templar or Paladin this is where you put any suggestions for Western Europe-specific skills.

Also first person to submit a character with glasses gets 10000 bonus points. Unfortunately, like most RPs on this forum, everything is made up and the points don't matter.

Also credit to Grey Star for much of this signup sheet, which I mostly copied from the RP that Grey Star started but appears to have abandoned.

  • Name: Crimson The Wanderer
  • Real Name: Red Leaming
  • Gender: Both male
  • Bio: Red was your standard nerd, playing the game to get away from his boring, school life. And then he found himself stuck in a game...Finding no immediate way to get out, Red just decided to go with the flow, becoming Crimson The Wanderer. To be honest? He's not exactly sure he's wants to leave. Though when he's not off on misadventures, he tends to be at the tavern, and is willing to stab someone you hate....for a price.
  • Appearance: A slender, well built man with neck length brown hair wearing a crimson long coat, black pants and boots. He tends to wear a black tricorn and a pair of black lensed spectacles...More for looks than anything.
  • Personality: Red is sarcastic, deadpan and irreverant. He's playing to have fun, and it shows, even though the game, is of course real. However, he possesses a bit of a cruel streak, enjoying combat and sometimes playing the role of an assassin for hire for the fun of it.
  • Race:  Human
  • Class: Swashbuckler
  • Level: 45
  • Guild (Optional): Laoch honestly finds Guilds to be irritating, enjoying more running around.
  • Items: ** Y and Z: A pair of production class swords, Y is a machete and Z is a rapier, while Y does more damage, Z is quicker.
    • Red Cap's Robes: A Red leather long coat, it's light leather armor, and negates Laoch from being OTK, and if all of his health is depleted in one attack, he will always revive with 1 HP.
    • About a dozen HP potions.
    • Strider; A slender black horse, Strider serves as Crimson's mount.
  • Custom Skills:
    • Blinding Flourish: With just the right flick of the blade, Laoch splatters the blood of an enemy into another's eyes, it can be done to the same creature, though it has more effect if done on two seperate creatures
    • Hamstring: Being able to immobilize an enemy Is a good thing, the little bit of damage is just an added bonus.

  • Name: Lady*Erith [of The Silver Light], real name, Erin Miller
  • Gender: Female
  • Appearance: This kind of armor and build, with this hair style and color scheme. Plus dog ears and a tail. Upon being manifested on Elder Tales, her hair becomes black like on real life, but she'll promptly dye it silver again.
  • Personality: Lady Erith is the epitome of a dedicated holy knight, fighting for good, law and justice. Her armor shields the weak, her prayers heal the wounded, her appearance inspires the pure, her light banishes the darkness and her blade smites all evil. One with a proper and noble bearing, serious when dealing the wrongs of the world, though she does offer a reassuring and warm smile to her allies in the light. That... is her character. In truth, Erin Miller is a consummate roleplayer who designed Lady Erith's character when intending to play as a righteous defender of good. In truth, she's a whole lot more relaxed and lazy than her righteous RP self. She has a bit of a teasing, sarcastic streak though both personalities share a bit of a short temper against those who would cross them.
  • Bio: Erin is a young woman who joined Elder Tale around 11 years before, when her older brother introduced her to the game in an effort to find something to entertain her with that they both could enjoy. She was only a 12 year old girl at the time and yet, she fell in love with the world of fantasy present within the game. In the beginning she was an aimless player just going for what looked the nicest and the like, however, for some reason she kept at the game and eventually learned its systems and how to truly be a part of it. For the most part, her life was that of a normal, social girl, however she spent many long nights behind her monitor. In real life she hardly ever mentioned to her friends at school her hobby of Elder Tale and in truth only a small handful ever learned of it. Seven years ago, with greater experience in the game Erin made her character of Lady Erith after watching an heroic movie with her class and falling in love with the knightly and honorable archetype. After leveling the character enough, she founded Sacred Grace, an RP Guild built like a knightly order who went out on raids and quests 'for the sake of the people'. The Guild became a close knit community due to the fun of its Role Playing attitude and the sheer love given to the game and sharing on it. Erin spent more time than ever on Elder Tale, making a name for herself and her Guild by the time the newest expansion would hit and bring with it the Apocalypse.
    • Race: Wolf Fang
    • Class: Templar, with an Armor Cleric build optimized for frontline battle.
    • Subclass: Knight
    • Level: 90
    • Guild: Guildmaster of Sacred Grace, a Roleplaying Guild taking the appearance of a sacred order who fight monsters and defend the realms from the greatest threats. A raid guild with a long trajectory and a close community. Compared to its history, the guild is relatively small due to the heavy requirements of keeping character, upholding a respectable attitude and to be accepted by the other members. Still, while the requirements were a bit bothersome, Sacred Grace did not discriminate players by level or items, thus newbies with the right attitude were embraced and cultivated into great members of the guild and offered camaraderie and friendship in equal parts.
    • Items:
      • Blade of the Lake Faerie: An artifact longsword made of a blue, crystaline looking material. A beautiful and strong blade, with the important quality of mana drain, which allows the user to recover a bit of mana with every swing by taking it away from the hit target. It additionally has a mode switch ability, which allows the user to wield it with a single hand or with both hands to increase its attack power. It also lowers the cost of Holy type abilities while in the hands of the wielder.
      • Sheath of the Lake Faerie: An artifact item which comes with the Blade of the Lake Faerie. The sheath when worn as an accesory bestows upon the wielder an increase to base MP and both health and mana regeneration. The sheath, however, has another effect. It can equiped as a weapon on the off hand, however, doing so eliminates its previous effects to instead provide the damage of striking with it and a slight boost to defense from parrying with it as if it was a shield.
      • Plate of Seraphs Cloth: A divine looking platemail, in appearance perfect for a rightous warrior of faith. Aside from boasting strong defensive parameters and an extra protection against dark or demonic damage, it also have a valuable attribute that heightens by a percentage the amount of health recovered from all sources to the wearer.
      • Spirit Cape: A blue colored cape which increases elemental resistances and bestows a health regeneration effect.
      • Swordmaster Gauntlets: Plate gauntlets that grant defense, a boost to strength and attack speed.
      • Feathered Boots of Sylph Swiftness: A pair of boots which are optimized for a good combination of mobility, jumping ability and swiftness.
      • Wolf Fang Pact Necklace: A special, racial item obtained through a quest chain. Allows the Wolf Fang who wears it to be able to toggle at will the boost to strength and footing that comes with their tails and animal like ears.
      • Dazaneg's Magic Bag: Bag of storing that is always useful and obtained by near anyone when leveling up.
      • Legion Power Standard - Honor Army: Obtained during a raid battle quest, this is a semi customizable item which flies the flag and symbol of Sacred Grace. Upon obtaining it, Erith choose the Honor variant which is a more defensive form of the item. When stuck on the floor, it gives a boost to defense, magical resistance and health regen of all allied troops within a certain area. However, if Erith carries it in her off hand, she receives the effects of the aura individually plus a small boost to defense from parrying strikes with it at the sacrifice of not having the aura affect her allies and losing power on her blade by not wielding it with two hands. Still, the biggest perk of carrying it in hand is a passive ability called, raise the standard which draws on enemy aggro or hate towards the bearer, making Erith the focus of enemy attacks.
      • Horn of the Unicorn: A quest item which allows the user to call onto a mount, a white unicorn to ride. As far as mount goes the unicorn can move quite quickly, however, it is bound to land. Can only be ridden for 3 hours after which it has an 8 hour cooldown to summon once again. If the unicorn was dismissed early it can be summoned again for the rest of the allotted time, though if the time runs out completely, you must wait until the 8 hours pass. Additionally, while riding the unicorn the user has a buff on healing spells and life regen.

  • Name: Emrys the Stormborn - IRL Name: Damian Rose
  • Gender (Both): Male
  • Bio: Damian is a long time Elder Tales player, having been around since the launch of the game. He truly loves the setting and the characters that inhabit it, both Landers and Adventurers. As such a long time player he is quite recognizable among the Adventuring populace. He has avoided joining a Guild preferring to stay independent though he maintains friendships with many Guilded players and is always up for helping them out on a Raid if he's free.
  • Appearance: Nevermore
  • Personality: Emrys is a rather carefree if morbid individual, though protective of his friends and unforgiving of those who would harm them. He loves Magic in all its forms and is also quite dedicated to collecting all the in-game lore he can obtain into a Compendium that chronicles the world's history from beginning to end as well as the stories of all the notable Adventurers, Landers, and Monsters along with all the Laws and Rules of the Game, the Kingdoms within the Game, and Magic.
  • Race: Race of Ritual
  • Class: Highly optimized Glass Cannon Sorcerer - Shock Element
  • Subclass: Dragon Slayer
  • Level: 90
  • Items:
    • Akasha - The World As One: An exquisitely carved staff infused with the essence of the World. Wielding this staff gives the user's area-of-effect spells a larger radius and damage and increases the time limit on persistent effects due to its connection to the World. Phantasmal-class.
    • Vestment of the Storm: A robe woven long ago by a god in a contest with a mortal, it is emblazoned with a depiction of a wrathful Storm God and decreases the cost of [Shock] spells. Artifact-class
    • Memory of the Sky: A beautifully embroidered set of gloves that bring to mind a clear night sky and confers a faster cooldown rate to [Shock] spells used by the wearer. Magical-class
    • Mantle of the Stormcrow: An artifact cloak adorned with feathers from a massive avian that could cause thunderstorms with but a single wingbeat, decreases casting time for [Shock] spells.
    • Storm-forged Band of the Conqueror: An Artifact ring forged from Lightning struck iron by a forgotten god, adds [Shock] to all spells
  • Custom Skills:
    • Thunderstorm: Creates a small thunderstorm that will soon dissipate, but while its around will rain Lightning on your foes
    • Akasha's Wrath: Releases a powerful lightning bolt that halves defenses but can only strike one target and consumes obscene amounts of MP
    • Static Nebulae: Electrifies a portion of the battlefield that will damage enemies within its radius

  • Name: Proton the <Bug Shaman>
  • Gender: Male, Male
  • Bio: Proton was originally not an MMO player, with RTS games being his forte. He was convinced to try Elder Tales by friends of his, wanting to try a game with a sense of progression beyond the ~30 minutes a match would last. He selected a Summoner character to try and play to his strengths - managing a group of units at once. Unfortunately, his friend was not logged on at the time of the Catastrophe, leaving him stuck in a new world without any real contacts.
  • Appearance: Tall and thin, wearing a fairly common Production-class robes dyed blue. His tatoos are light green, which do not go well with his blue eyes. His hair is blonde.
  • Personality: A bit on the shy side, he prefers to take a passive stance on most things. He is fairly light-hearted most of the time, poking fun at people and generally not being too serious. In combat, he becomes extremely serious, tunnel-visioning onto the combat to the exclusion of anything else.
  • Race: Race of Ritual
  • Class: Summoner (Sigilmaker)
  • Level: 37
  • Guild: He is not a member of a guild, having preferred to work with his friend. Now, of course, he's a bit more open to the idea.
  • Items:
    • A low-level Production-class robe intended for Summoners. It provides a slight boost to speed and health of their Summons, but looks very plain.
    • <Insect-Shell Staff>: A staff with several insect jaws attached to it. An item obtained by completing a quest to clear out a hive of monstrous insects, the end drips with poison. When used by a Summoner, Insect Summons deal slightly more damage.
    • <Summon Bind>: A commonly found gauntlet worn by most Summoners of his level. It slightly boosts the range Summons can be from the Summoner.
  • Custom Skills: (Due to his level, his limit for creatures summoned is currently 5)
    • <Combat Summon: Insect Minion>: A fairly weak summon for its level, it has unique ability of only counting as 1/2 of a Summon for the limit of Summons that can be called. Their venom slightly inhibits healing.
    • <Combat Summon: Insect Guard>: A tanky summon with strong armor. It can latch onto enemies, inhibiting movement and dealing damage over time.
    • <Combat Summon: Insect Queen>: A skill that requires mastery of the Insect Minion and Insect Guard Summons to obtain. It acts as a support unit, having strong healing and buffs. While these abilities are fully usable on players, they are more effective when used on other Insect summons. Counts as two summons for the limit on summons called.

Rapier from where my mind is. Since: Sep, 2012 Relationship Status: Wishfully thinking
#10: Dec 3rd 2014 at 10:41:48 AM

  • Name: Alberich (taken from his real name, Albert Richter)
  • Gender: Male
  • Personality: "Brilliant but lazy", he's the kind of guy who loafs around and dislikes being ordered to do something, doing his chores on his own pace, oftenly telling others that he is not up for the task or that he can't do the task just so he can be left out. This tendency has turned him into an oddball who has never been very good with groups, though he can put these differences aside to do a job from time to time, as it is better than dying repeatedly out of stubborness. Curiously, he prefers to do his obligations right away in order to become free of them for the rest of his time, a quirk that his friends and Familiars tend to bring a lot. Other than that, he's the quiet type who prefers to hang out with few friends and is seen speaking more with his Familiars than with other people. He prefers to not join guilds in order to not be bossed around.
    • tl;dr: Responsible, lazy, reasonable, introspective, calculating, prefers to do things on his own way, stubborn.
    • Bio: Albert played turn-based strategy games since his childhood, spending countless hours in games such as Age of Empires, Civilization and Total War. His interest for MM Os has never been too big, until some of his friends managed to get him to play Elder Tales and convinced him to give it a try. He became particularly interested with the Summoner class, as it managed to give him the chance to command his units much like on his favorite games. Since then, he has been playing for three years.
  • Appearance: http://safebooru.org/index.php?page=post&s=view&id=1224292
  • Race: Human
  • Class: Summoner
  • Subclass: Physician
  • Level: 53
  • Guild: Refuses to be part of one.
  • Items:
    • <spirit channeler necklace>: As the name implies, it... helps channeling spirits, lowering the mana consumption the more affinity the spirit has with the summoner. At the start, Alberich found this necklace very useless since his Familiars hardly knew him; now, he believes the necklace is redundant and wonders about selling it.
    • <Zilian staff>: A white, regal staff that would suggest he's a mage, forcing him to deal with many misunderstandings with other people. Either way, he clings to it because its sole ability, Familiar Warp, allows him to teleport a Familiar of his on a radius of 20 meters to his current location instantaneously. It drains a lot of mana, though.
  • Custom Skills: Alberich can only field three familiars. A fusioned familiar counts as two familiars (or more, depending on how many familiars were used for the fusion, but he can only fuse two as of yet)
    • (De)Fuse Familiars: As the name implies, Alberich is capable of fusing two familiars in order to create a stronger familiar, or separate the stronger familiar so they revert to their former selves. Familiars that fuse are automatically separated after being cast out. Takes a moderate amount of mana.
    • Summon Wind Fairy: The wind fairy he summons is quick and nimble, especially good for scouting or providing support, but is weak and frail for combat. It is capable of slowing enemies by sending gusts of wind, and it is capable of dissipating strong winds if necessary.
      • When fused with the Earth Golem, they become a Gargoyle. When fused with the Fire Monkey, they become a Phoenix (it's nerfed, no need to panic). When fused with the Mermaid, they become an Ice Fairy.
    • Summon Earth Golem: The golem he summons is tall and strong, capable of resisting harsh melee damage and dishing out damage as well, but is slow and particularly weak to magical attacks.
      • When fused with the Fire Monkey, they become a Lava Golem. When fused with the Mermaid, they become an Ancient Golem
    • Summon Fire Monkey: The monkey he summons is strong and nimble, capable of dishing a lot of damage but taking back as much, since it is not very resistant. As the name implies, his attacks are capable of inflicting burns due to his alignment with fire.
      • Can't fuse with the Mermaid, for obvious reasons.
    • Summon Mermaid: The mermaid he summons is quick (while underwater) and nimble, her utility is best used for support, as she lacks resistance other than magical. When she is near water, she can send jets or waves, depending on how much there is. While out of water, she takes the humanoid form of a slender young woman with sea blue hair. Underwater, she switches to the typical mermaid form, her skin turns into green scales, her teeth become sharper and her nails turn into claws.

Curses. One day I will conquer my illiteracy, but it is not this day. The wrong replace was not my intent; I'll change it. Paladins will play like the canon samurai, but with a weapon affinity for big nasty late medieval pole-arms and lances, and a summonable warhorse that they can use for mounted combat for a brief time, provided one is not in a raid or dungeon.

Speaking of mounts, are we allowed to have any? I assume you can't have inanimate objects like boats, but what about whales or elephants?

I'm okay with a variety of animals, but the only mounts usable in combat will be Paladin's warhorses, at least until the "flavor text starts becoming real" stage. I'd like to avoid a second coming of Aegon the Conqueror, flying into the world and conquering it from the back of some great black dragon.

@Crimson the Wanderer

Approved, though I'm going to make some comments about details on the setting that I haven't really explained. Before the Catastrophe, as it will become known, this was a normal behind the computer screen game. It all of a sudden being real would be quite a shock all the players, so most of his personality traits (like the statement "he's playing for fun") sound more like what Red would have done before the game became real. Unless of course, how he deals with it is something along the lines of "it's still a game, I'm going to keep doing what I've been doing," which is fine. Is that making sense?

Oh, and you get the 10000 point prize. Omega Good Job!

@Lady Erith

Approved. Also approving you to create minor NPCs (NPCs from our perspective, that is) as lieutenants and underlings in your guild.

  • Name: Jeanne d’Ango (Jeanne Fleury)
  • Gender (both): Female
  • Bio: A French infantryman (infantrywoman?) stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan who plays Elder Tale during her off-hours as a way of coping with the brief interludes of intense violence and combat in her life that are followed mostly by the long bouts of mind-numbing boredom that are a part of living in a desert environment. While she shows talent in the field and is a hard worker, she's been held back from promotion multiple times for not following orders. Elder Tale was her escape from the routine and rigorous discipline of military life, but now that she's stuck there she finds herself taking on the same role as the superior officer she hates in order to keep order amongst her crew.
  • Appearance: "Yoho yoho, a pirate's life for meeee~"
  • Personality: Jeanne is a troublesome person who can often appear fickle and irresponsible, acting impulsively with no consideration for the consequences. She's a tease, she's crude, she's rude, she drinks, and she thinks solely about how to have fun and how best to get what she wants with the least amount of effort. She's the kind of person who would capture and board a ship just to steal the captain's hat because it looked nice. However, since the Catastrophe, Jeanne's begun pulling her act together, and is now trying her best to be a responsible commander and Guildmaster using the lessons drilled into her by her SO, demanding discipline from both herself and her pirate crew. She cares deeply about the players in her guild and doesn't want to see anyone get hurt for real because of a game, so she does her best to look out for them and assist in looking for a way home however she can.
  • Race: Human
  • Class: Swashbuckler
    • Subclass: Hundred Man-Slayer
  • Level: 90
  • Guild: Guildmaster of the Wild Hunt, the guild that she founded in mimicry of the famous hunting party/band of pirates. Infamous for their reputation as Player Killers, the Wild Hunt is a combination raid guild and thieve's guild. Up until recently the guild's members were all rogues, outlaws and scalliwags who merrily pillaged and plundered under the command of their beloved "Captain" Jeanne, a woman so capricious, cruel and without mercy that even the most hardened adventurers thought twice about crossing her. However, the Catastrophe seems to have brought out the best in Jeanne and her crew, and the fleet of former pirates now works to defend the cities full of players that they once plundered. For a price, of course. Just because you're doing a good deed doesn't mean a girl shouldn't try to turn a profit.
  • Items:
    • Le Retour de La Concorde: Jeanne's 40-gun flagship that she keeps parked in the harbor, a massive beast of a boat that ranks among some of the toughest ships in Elder Tale. Since Jeanne, formerly a petty hijacker of boats instead of a pirate fleet commander, merely appeared one day with the ship in tow, rumors abound as to how she got it. Some believe she paid for it with real money, her crew believes she commandeered it (despite a hijacking of that magnitude being ludicrously impossible for one player), and others simply believe she had it built in secret in a shipyard just like anyone else. The fact remains though that when Elder Tale players see this ship hoisting the black flag, they skip town, and fast.
    • Barbossa: Jeanne's beloved Phantasmal mount, Barbossa is a large black bird called a dragon parrot, a magical creature modeled after the real-life black palm cockatoo which can change its size between a small bird and a massive feathery monster that can be ridden as a mount. While he can't breathe fire like a real dragon, his talons and beak are just as mean, and can crush armor like aluminum cans. His saliva is poisonous and festering with toxic bacteria, and even his hot parrot-breath is actually kind of dangerous as a result, meaning you should never ask him if Polly wants a cracker. His response just might be the last thing you ever hear before you keel over. Besides, his favorite food is nuts, numbskull.
    • Flambé et Flamboyante: Production-Class épée swords made with many Artifact level ingredients including fire spirit brandy and meteoric iron for strength. The blades spark when struck like matches and burst into flame when covered in flammable alcohol, hence the name. And like flambé skewers, they're designed primarily for rapid thrusting and stabbing attacks and then roasting the unfortunate victim at the end of a flaming stick. They can withstand the heat of their flames easily, and they burn slow, keeping the fire going all battle long. The meteoric iron and unorthodox shape of the swords makes them difficult to break, and their alcoholic flames cannot be extinguished with water, making them the perfect weapons for a drunk pirate captain.
    • Pirate Booty: Jeanne's one-piece hotpantsu and suspenders getup. A Production-Class item, the outfit is fire-retardant and adds bonuses to sex appeal diplomacy.
    • Seamaster's Hat: A Magical-Class hat that repels all water in a certain radius of Jeanne, keeping her dry even in the heart of the storm as long as she's wearing it. It does not work against magic, summons, or being dunked in large bodies of water, but it will lessen the damage and dry her out faster than it would normally take.
    • Black Flag: A Phantasmal-Class item, the Black Flag is an item that belongs to the entire Wild Hunt guild, and which adorns their flagship during raids. When it's not striking fear into the hearts of travelers out on the high seas, Jeanne will often wear the fearsome frayed flag like a cloak to symbolize her status as Guildmaster. The cloak provides bonuses to diplomacy, intimidation, and swordfighting, and increases the odds of players, monsters, and treasure chests dropping rare loot.
  • Custom skills:
    • Coup de Grace: Perform a Coup de Grace (Finishing Move) on a downed or incapacitated enemy to instantly kill them.
    • Plunder: Each successful attack increases the amount of gold dropped by defeated enemies by 1% and the chance of receiving a rare item by .01%
  • Misc: Many male players have gone on the record as saying that Jeanne’s french accent is criminally sexy, which could go a ways in explaining why such a troublesome player is tolerated as a puckish rogue rather than hunted as a dangerous outlaw.

No, I mean thematically. Because I always took it to be a fact that Swashbucklers were already kinda piratey, and my character is explicitly modeled after and roleplaying as a pirate captain.

@Rapier I tend to be lenient with rules, and trust people not to abuse freedoms given until proven otherwise.

LH Spoilers (You're fine if you've seen up through the current season 2 episodes): Although for your character it might be neat if the fusion mechanic was an Overskill/Teaching that gets discovered along the way.

Also posting to say that darksidevoid pointed me to another list of subclasses to choose from. Link is in the signup sheet.

  • Name: Aster
  • Gender: Male (in game and real life)
  • Bio: Aster had put Elder Tale after becoming bored with the game, but eventually decided to pick it back up when some old friends wanted to do a quest for old time’s sake. Aster was one of the first one in his group to log into the game and was sucked in when the Apocalypse happened. Now he tries to find a reason to live in the world of Elder Tale a world he finds boring due to multiple reasons, with the main one being that death is just a slap on the wrist.
  • Personality- Most of the time Aster is bored, the only exception is if he gets into a fight as it livens things up for him.
  • Appearance: http://img2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20140131010154/fireemblem/images/4/4d/FE13_Swordmaster_(Lon'qu).png except with black as the primary color on the clothing.
  • Race: Human
  • Class: Assassin
  • Sub Class: Tracker
  • Level 90
  • Items
    • Luna and Sol- a pair of twin swords. Luna has a silver blade while Sol has a Gold Blade. Luna offers a piercing ability while Sol allows the chance for the wielder to recover a small amount of health if a strike connects
    • Throwing Knives- While Aster prefers to get up close to his opponents, he carries around some throwing knives in case he needs to stop somebody from a distance. The knives are just basic knives that Aster and quickly and cheaply replace.
    • Clothing- Aster's clothing is black to allow him to blend in with the darkness, it's lightweight so it doesn't offer much defense but it does allow Aster to move quickly.

  • Skills
    • Assassinate- Basic Assassin skill. A single strike that can kill just about anything and weakens anything else with a powerful strike, can be used with both melee and ranged weapons.
    • Stealth Blade- A strong ambush skill that can is stronger if it connects with an enemy from behind. Has a short cooldown time so it can be used in combos with other skills
    • Poison Fog- A cloud of green fog is released that inflicts poison, the drawback is that it inflicts poison to both allies and enemies.
    • Silent Sniper- A skill used to tag targets before engaging them in combat it also increases hit and critical rate, and damage towards the target while active
    • Deadly Stance- a melee only skill that launches an attack from a lowered stance. Has a one second cooldown and can be used consecutively up to 8 times to increase power
    • Rapid Fire- Ranged only skill, as the name implies Aster throws out his knives rapidly.
    • Hide Walk- Runs into the blind spot of an enemy and increases the hit and critical rate of the next strike
    • Sneak- Tracker Skill allows self concealment
    • Silent Move- Tracker skill, allows movement with no sound

Hmmm mounts... perhaps a noncombat horse... a flying mount is desirable but very very rare. Maybe not.
