So I'm doing a painting and what I want to capture is the wonder and curiosity of night, but I don't exactly want it to be dark and mysterious in a creepy way; any ideas?

It's watercolor by the way, I might also use pastel(the hard powdery kind) if I think It'll add anything.

Add dusky colors like purple and dark pink to warm it up, and open up the painting instead of making it feel claustrophobic (like if there are any buildings or trees, tilt them slightly out instead of in). Add stars or stuff like fireflies or lamps to act as sources of yellow/white light. Show people enjoying the night.

Put a single light source that's much higher value than the rest. The painting doesn't have to be dark, just darker than the light source.
