I think it's more likely that they'll simply re-release the existing game onto the next generation consoles rather then making an Overwatch 2 in the same genre.
In addition I think it's likely that lootbox money is a well that's going to run dry in the next few years because of legal restrictions. Which means a game company might be hesitant to bet on that model for a game that isn't coming out real soon.
Going to be a little salty if OW 2 turns out to be their plans for pushing the lore forward and that is why the have been so sparse with it in the main game. The lore we have been given could have been pushed out easily in a far shorter space of time and the audience is clearly hungry for it.
Ignoring that negative thought though, colour me excited for how they are saying its not literally a direct sequel, I'm all for expanded universes of games that diversify between themselves. Could be one of the first non MMO games as a service games that actually wins my heart.
It could be a single-player/co-op game with a story mode. That would be effective way of telling an actual story without shoe-horning it into OW.
Guys, guys! Lore!
It's a short story focused on Baptiste
I can't believe Baptiste used to be friends with Maui.
This 'OW 2' report also could just be looking at Overwatch's future in Next Gen, possibly just porting it to whatever comes next?
It's super vague and may or may not be true at all, so we can't technically rule out anything.
But a port, even to a next gen console, isn't something I would expect to be referred to as "Overwatch 2" in even the most informal capacity.

So, we should be getting a hero reveal soon. Ya think Mauga could be the next one? We could use a tank and the short story describes him using a shield, which i wouldn't mind since it's been a while we had a shield tank.
I kinda want to see more bits of the main lore, though. Buuut, who am I kidding here.
He definitely gets added to the list of potential heroes, he also fills in the thematic niche of a Talon tank.
However I'm probably betting on Sojourne for the next hero. It's been awhile since we've had a traditional former Overwatch member, and they already cast a voice actress for her for the Storm Rising event.

We still haven't got that robot from Mc Cree's short.
We've been told she isnt next.
Weren't we told that two heroes ago? Have we been told it again?
Double post: update dropped. Baptiste gets a whole bunch of sprays and a skin. Buffs for Baptiste, Mc Cree, Sym and Orisa; nerfs for Torb and D.va. New replay system.
D.Va gets nerfed again? Holy shit, I think she's officially the most nerfed Hero in Overwatch, period.
Mercy says hi. Or she would, but they nerfed her voice lines too.
D.Va tries to say hi back, only to get hit in the face with yet another nerf.

Ironic considering her "NERF THIS!" attitude.
Don't bite the hand that feeds?
Maybe she's daring them to nerf her as much as possible so she can prove how good she is anyway?
About the robot hero. They mentioned that two heroes ago on Ashe and they did say that she was coming as a hero at some point. They didn't specify when.
As someone mentioned already, we really need a Talon tank. Also, a Talon Omnic, like Maximillien.
Mauga seems like heíll be the next hero, or maybe thatís just me wanting another main tank in the game. I just want more options to protect my team.
I donít play enough competitive to really notice, but D.Va after the nerf feels fine. I always felt like she has too many tools to begin with and this makes her a full off-tank.
I always thought it would be cool if, instead of direct nerfs, they gave Defense Matrix a visual indicator when an enemy D.Va was about to run out of meter. Have it turn yellow and then red, or start flickering, or something. That way there's a little more counterplay to trying to get ults or big cooldowns past it. The same way you can see the cracks in an enemy Rein's shield and know that you're close to breaking it.
Well, it's fair to say that even nerfing D.Va's Defensive Matrix won't be enough to kill GOATS (I'm sure that such Overwatch Leaguers as Junho "Fury" Kim will still be gobbling up Graviton Surges left and right); I'm guessing nothing short of Blizzard following through on the whole "role lock" idea will do that. And I think I'd be right in saying such a move would be met with absolute uproar by a large segment of the player base. (And welcomed with open arms by another segment.)
That said, YouTube's Overwatch Central posted a video on Wednesday noting that the latest patch also contains a stealth buff for Sombra and a stealth nerf for Brigitte, both of them listed as bugfixes.
The stealth Sombra buff is that Ana's Anti-Heal has now been added to the list of status effects that are cleared by translocating, even to just a few metres away; it seems a growing number of Sombra players are using this to clear status effects before, for example, setting off an EMP. The video pointed out that Sombra is already being chosen more and more often to counter GOATS at the highest level, noting that Dante "Danteh" Cruz of the OWL's Houston Outlaws has been lethally effective with her in Stage 3, hence his team's upset win over the San Francisco Shock last week.
And the stealth Brigitte nerf concerns Rally, which now has its line of sight blocked by opponents' shields. So if, for example, Brigitte and a teammate are either side of an opposing Reinhardt's shield when she casts Rally, the teammate won't benefit from it unless they get the shield out of the way. (Which, given that this would mean one of them is behind Reinhardt instead of in front of him, wouldn't be difficult.) The video noted that Winston's shield would thus make an effective (if brief) counter to Rally if he drops it on top of Brigitte. (Cries continue apace for Brig to be completely re-worked in the same vein as Mercy and Symmetra before her.)
I get the impression that the buffs to McCree and Baptiste have increased their selection rate, and that they make quite the effective tandem. Does this mean we'll see them used in OWL? Of course not; it'll be all-GOATS all the time there still, with the only question being whether Sombra will be swapped in for D.Va, or Winston for Reinhardt. Pity.
JJonak will be getting his own Zenyatta Legendary skin
Still no announcement for the cost but it's an OWL skin
