Opening. Acceptable Humanoid Romance?
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanAnd what of the issue of Human Aliens and the life counting? I'd like to add things like Dragon Ball Z or Superman in, but the fact they're not already there gives me pause.

Those arnt an example. This trope is
- Human x Humanoid is ok
- Human x non-humanoid not ok
You have to have both.
An example on the list I know well would be the Yes Pretty Cure 5 one, the MC has a romance with the show's Mascot but the Mascot is a shapeshifter and the romance is only on when he is in human form not fairy form.
In that case, there needs to be a ridiculously massive cleanup because that's not reflected by the description or the examples.

'Non-human transforming into a human or having an illusion to appear human for the romance or just sex' is valid too.
Superman is a Human Alien and does not transform to get laid.

Again, there's nothing on the page one way or the other to indicate that's the trope.
That is what I got reading the description, 'Humanoid on x Human: ok, Non-Humanoid on Human: not ok' and while it doesn't quite specify IMO it really it's gotta have both aspects represented, in some way, because we have other tropes for that. A lot of the robot examples do not have the latter.
On the topic of a rename what about 'Its Humanoid So It Is OK'?

I'm inclined to agree that this is fundamentally a trope about shapeshifting and the like, and shouldn't be expanded to cover Human Aliens.
I don't think it should be limited to just "Humanity Ensues, now you're ok to romance a human", but yeah, I believe the point is the "non-humanoids with a human is squick" and not "humanoids with humans is okay".
it can be either that the nonhumanoid will undergo Humanity Ensues, or it could be pointed out In-Universe that Bestiality Is Depraved unless they look humanoid.
MAX POWER KILL JEEEEEEEEWWWWWEither way, we'll need a rewrite clarifying it.
Honestly, the more I think about it, I sorta think there's two tropes at work here:
- Transforming For Love (or sex)
- Interspecies Romance isn't squicky if it's human-on-humanoid
And any way you cut it, What Measure Is a Humanoid? is an awful name for either/both.

Let's play "guess the trope." What Measure Is a Humanoid? is a snowclone of What Measure Is an Index?, so you'd think it'd be about a humanoid not being afforded the same rights as non-humanoids (not unlike a reversed What Measure Is a Non-Human?).
The trope? An Interspecies Romance is treated as acceptable if the non-human looks human.
Admittedly, I'm not finding a lot of misuse, but with only 20 wicks it seems underused since it should apply to any romance between a Human Alien and a human. That said, the examples on the page are exclusively about shapeshifting to/from a human-like form, while examples off the page are mostly about Human Aliens.
