This is dead simple for MLP:FIM. We have both Equestria Girls and Rainbow Rocks.
The former is literally a High School AU—the protagonist of the series pops into an alternate universe and finds herself in a world where all the characters in the characters in the series are students/teachers at a high school. Then, the sequel introduced a pseudo-Seventh Element of Harmony, a plot device that was previously only the domain of bad OCs.
I like the movies, but I'm glad they're spin-offs.

I'm going to try to watch Rainbow Rocks soon, but from the looks of things, Sunset Shimmer looks interesting as The Atoner.
More than half the Simpsons episodes released since Season 22. Of course, given the timing, that's probably evidence they really were written by fans
Frankly, I think it's been like that for a lot longer... The hyper-zaniness, making bart and lisa act like a couple, and of course gratuitous rape by a panda bear and a hulked-out marge. Ugh....

Insolence! No one dares to block an attack I deliver!Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
A month after Harry's godfather dies before his very eyes, and the big evil dark lord makes his appearance and threatens the world:
- Harry is feeling just peachy
- Harry decides that he doesn't need to bother with the after-school extra practice in Defense
- Is more concerned with getting good grades and showing up his best friend than figuring out how to not get them killed like his godfather
- Everyone is out of character because hormones.
- Shipping... shipping is everywhere, you might as well call this Harry Potter and the UPS
- Ginny is basically a Reward Sue, after no character development for 4 books she's instantly everything Harry has or could ever want in a girl.
- plot and development is stalled for the silliest of reasons (Dumbledore absolutely MUST know that Riddle mentioned the number seven... a number he already suspected... and help confirm nothing anyway. And Harry has to be the one to find out, not himself.)
- almost nothing of consequence happens in the entire book other than the last 2 chapters or so.
- basically most of the book is ignored anyway in the next book. Again, except for the bits in the last 2 chapters
- the title has almost no bearing whatsoever on the plot

I can't help but feel that a lot of this is based on a very flawed reading of the book. But a few things:
- Do we really need a repeat of last book's angst-fest as far as survivor's guilt goes(and this is coming from someone who likes book 5)?
- Harry decides that he doesn't need to bother with the after-school extra practice in Defense You mean the DA? Wasn't the whole thing about teaching it properly under Umbridge's nose? Is it even necessary anymore? (I mean, next year, obviously, but...)
- Okay, saying "nothing matters but the last two chapters" ignores A) the fact that Dumbledore dies earlier than that and B) the entire "Dumbledore teaches Harry about Voldemort's past help sets up key plot details of the final book, and not just the Horcruxes, either.

Oh God! Natural light!
or whatever chapter it is that dumbledore dies, then. i don't memorize the books chapter by chapter. the only thing of importance was: 1 horcrux down not quite down, dumbldore dead, snape joins league of evil, and it was at the end of the book.
as for the whole Voldemort-backstory bit: that brings up another issue! It's practically a lesson on bumping up wordcount. Dumbledore tells Harry a little bit of information that could literally be summarized in an hour, but instead takes the longest and slowest way possible to do it. "Okay, Harry. Watch... as I walk up the street. Just a few more minutes. Keep watching. I'm going to knock on the door."
and regarding the DA: I hope you're not like the guy i tried debating that flat-out refused to accept the concept that practice makes you better at things. If you're going to go down that route, I just... won't bother arguing.

Again, considering how the Horcruxes are built up through out the book (along with the Hallows, for that matter), I don't think your assertion is accurate.
The stuff you're talking about is...really not worth criticizing, in my opinion. It's just a bit of fluff; the other books did it too.
Look, Harry formed Dumbledore's Army to combat Umbridge. He thought it was necessary at the time, but he decided it wasn't after she left. It's not his best decision, but considering that he had to deal with an increased workload with NEWT classes, as well as his responsibilities as Captain of the Gryffindor Quidditch team, I'm not going to fault him for it. I'm certainly not going to consider it a glaring flaw in the book. (I agree with you on the whole practice thing, but do they need Harry for them to do that?)
Oh God! Natural light!i don't consider it a bit of fluff, the book was nothing but fluff. except for the last bit where dumbledore dies and snape leaves.
as for the DA... no, people don't need Harry to practice on their own. It's Harry who needs extra practice, because Voldemort is kind of gunning after him personally.
As for being "too busy" with stuff like being Quidditch captain: What did I say above about being fluff? Again, this is the book that just followed Sirius dying, his friends nearly dying, and Voldemort showing up. When Harry needs to practice for his survival, I don't think broom flying is the skill to be working on.
This is the point in the plotline (and the age) for Harry to demonstrate responsibility. Take serious matters more seriously. Quidditch? Sorry, I've got a war to fight. Textbooks and grades? Sorry, I need the skills, not the marks. No, he just... enjoys school as if it were first year again and he'd forgotten about this guy named Voldemort entirely. He bumbles and fluffs his way through a book that barely has anything to do with the overarching story.
As for the way Dumbledore introduced horcruxes: sure, he shouldn't have just said to Harry, "oh, by the way voldemort put his soul in 5 or 6 objects, you gotta destroy them." But taking an *entire year* to tell Harry? That's obviously just stalling the story.
"Sorry, I've got a war to fight"? It's not like he's on the front lines. He is not, in fact, fighting this war, and it doesn't seem like Voldemort was gunning for him that year, anyway. Seriously, you're trying to turn the kid into a child soldier, and despite what some people might think, I don't think that's what Dumbledore wants him to do.
Why does Harry need to do exactly what you want him to, anyway?
edited 27th Oct '14 10:55:12 AM by KarkatTheDalek
Oh God! Natural light! Why? Because what I want is simply a story that fits with the plot of the series. HBP sticks out like a sore thumb. And no, he's not a child soldier. He's the target of a powerful murdering sociopath. Why do you, and Harry, and everyone else, keep forgetting that fact?
"Oh, there's a very real stalker sending me notes about how he wants to kill me! I'll just go and... not call the police, not lock my doors, and wander around outside at night alone, skipping merrily!"
Why does Harry have to act the way I want him to? Because the way I want him to act is anything within the broad category of "not like an idiot." Or, more precisely, not like he lives in an alternate (fanfiction?) universe where Voldemort is a far-away danger and hasn't affected him personally in any way.
Harry needs to buckle down and get ready for the oncoming storm, accept the fact that he's just not normal. In book 5 he was starting to develop, and starting to realize the fact that people looked up to him whether he liked it or not, and took a bit of control over the situation.
he does exactly the opposite in the next book, basically un-developing his character. He practically forget any danger exists at all and just goes around being a normal schoolkid.

Back when How To Train Your Dragon 2 was first announced, I jokingly suggested that they would find Hiccup's mother. Rarely have I so hated being right.
Looking for some stories?![]()
Meh, I'm not really in the mood to continue this debate anymore. Let's just accept that we both think the other is wrong and move on.
Neon Genesis Evangelion Angelic Days. Ikari Shinji Raising Project too, come to think of it.
An argument could be made regarding Campus Apocalypse, but that one I can more readily believe being an official product.

Prisma Ilya doesn't feel like fanfiction simply on the grounds of, well, how many Ilya as Magical Girl fanfics you ever saw before that manga's debut, over all the years the light novels and the original anime were available?
OTOH, Evangelion fics that play a Lighter and Softer romantic school comedy angle have been out for two decades now.
For the purposes of a thread and question like this, it doesn't suffice to have an off-wall premise, it has to be one that feels like it has been done over and over in fanfiction.

The gender flipped episode of Adventure Time. That was tippy and at the end? Yeahhuh huh

Basically, I wanted to make this thread about an episode of a show, or issue of a comic(or any kind of media, really) so laden with fan-service, or ship tease, or just a premise you'd swear would be from a fun and wacky fanfic. For example: "A Bitter Pill to Swallow" was a Pokémon episode that had a very shippy premise. Jessie and James drank a potion made in the shells of Shuckles that make the Pokémon extremely attracted to them. Pikachu jumps to attack Jessie only to start cuddling with her,(causing her to blush) Meowth declares his love for his "Jimmy-Wimmy" and snuggles him while licking his face, and there's also a running gag of a Shuckle licking Jessie's navel. I'm 100% serious, this all happens in the episode. Oh, and on the twerps's side there's Misty worrying over and caring for a sick Ash, and her especially furious reaction when she found out the old man character of the day gave Ash Pokémon medicine.
Insolence! No one dares to block an attack I deliver!
