I hope they never explain it. The overall mystery of "just what did he do that convinced the Murder Illuminati to leave him alone for a few years" will always be more compelling than whatever they might try and give us outright.

I dont think they will explain it beyond so nods to it but that it. But I will said [up][up][up] just killing a lot of people dosent cut it, like in this profesion you kinda expect to kill people but he did something ether very fuck up or very much tought imposible which kinda said a lot.

But I will said wick is sympathic but not good and the movie kinda try very hard to make it that way.

Actually, we had it explained. It's not a mystery.

The Big Bad of the first movie said that John worked for him but that he would let him retire if John killed pretty much everyone ahead of him in the New York City underworld. Then John did it.

We never see it. It's never shown. We know John buried a crap ton of people and Santino helped, but the scale of the operation, why it required Santino's help, and why it was enough to get him excommunicado whereas seemingly nobody else could is unknown.

That doesn't mean we can't speculate, but at least based on the details we have I wouldn't consider it as having been explained.

John Wick wasn't excommunicado before the first film, he was out of the game but he was still covered by the rules when he came back.

excommunicado means no service.

He only became excommunicado after he killed Santino at the Continental.

The impression I got was that John went to Viggo and asked to be allowed to retire. Viggo said, "Sure, if you can do ______", expecting there's no way John would actually do ______, since it's meant to be an impossible task and all. But then John actually did ______, and Viggo was like, "Shit, guess I gotta keep my end of the bargain now."

I mean, we see what happens when deals are busted.

But yes, apparently retirements are allowed to happen and you don't have to fulfill your debts if you decide you're out of the game.

It's why John coming back to work screwed him over.

Since all three episodes of the show are out now, I'm probably gonna watch it soon. Sound good?

[up]Yeah, go ahead.

Speaking of The Continental, should we make a character page for that since there are some new characters in the prequel?

Wouldn't it make sense to have a folder on the John Wick page for Series-Specific Characters?

I would think the number of new characters is not that big compared to all the characters already introduced in the movies as is.

I mean there's very little overlap in terms of characters. Two mains and a couple of cameos (young Charlie and Aurelio).

Agreed that a series specific page/folder would work. There are quite a lot of new characters, at least a dozen tropeable.

Given it's three episodes adding up to a total runtime of about 4:20–including end credits, there's a lot of story at least.

I think that Cormac would fall under John Wick - The Continental Hotels. So would Hansel and Gretel (the twin assassins).

Winston's crew (Lou, Miles, Lemmy, Gene, Yen) would probably qualify for their own folder. So something along the lines of a page titled "John Wick Winston Scott Crew".

To add to "John Wick - Other Criminals" would be the characters of: Frankie, Mazie / The Bowery Queen, Orphan Master, KD Silva, and Mayhew.

And no surprise which folder the 1970s Adjudicator and her bodyguard belong in.

Sheesh. Twelve crime organizations running the whole thing side-by-side. Of course killing any of them would simply result in a Sisyphus-type situation.

Ehhh... if its a Netflix or Madhouse one.

Depends on the subject matter.

I could definitely see an anime anthology series better than a live action one.

I'm certainly in the mood for something like Black Lagoon and the animated segment of Kill Bill, so this sounds like a fun idea.

Some news from deadline: the Ballerina spinoff has been delayed to next year with the Crow reboot taking its place this June. It says they’re shooting some new action sequences.

Yeah. To be honest, I'd kind of forgotten Ballerina was supposed to be this year. While I do look forward to seeing it, I can wait for when it's ready to be released though.

Just watched John Wick 4. Honestly, I liked it a lot more than 2 and 3, I think. I liked Caine a lot more than I was expecting to, and the Marquis wwas a lot less bland than someone like Santino to me.

I think my favourite actual joke in the movie was when Nobody was trying to stick the Marquis up for more money, and the Marquis gets so pissed that he smashes his phone against the ground. Then he thinks about it for a moment and actually calls Nobody back, and he does so using like a golden rotary telephone that a servant proffers to him on a literal silver platter. Because he just broke his phone.
