It's been implied there are license and things to use Quirks for other purposes besides heroing - heroing just seems like it's the most free, given what they have to do.

Re: Uraraka - They did bring that up, but it wasn't established how exactly she'd go about doing that if she'd chosen to work for them. Still, the fact that it was mentioned means there has to be some way to work it.

[up]x3 Also some mutation types are impossible to regulate. On a practical level you can't really stop someone like Fourth Kind using his extra arms for everyday things, even without a hero license

Though something like this would probably happen during their third year, I wouldn't mind seeing something about a project for the students about what type of hero they'd be, and their plan to set out in the profession.

Like, would they try and become a sidekick first or open their own agency right away (which going off of Hawks, sounds like it's pretty unusual), what type of area of duties would they like to specialize in? What specific kind of branding to get their names out? Stuff like that.

There are some I'd be more interested in this for others.

I wonder if it's possible to form a team while still in school. Mt. Lady's team came after they were all pros, but the Pussycats have apparently been a set since they picked their hero names.

On the "sidekick or debut as a hero" business, I'd assume it's similar, perhaps a bit rarer than, young people who start their own business straight out of high school rather than going to college or working as an employee somewhere first. Especially given Japanese culture, where going to work for some company, then steadily making your way up the ranks, until you get to some upper managerial position and then maybe go and start your own business, is more the norm.

Hawks was able to start his own agency straight outta high school.

Though he was also trained by the government so he’s not completely self-made.

From his backstory, it sounds like Endeavour was the #2 Hero by the time he was 20

Must have taken him a couple of years though. Hawks' backstory says he's the first person to get into while still in his teen years.

There's a certain tragedy to Endeavor's character now. He dedicated his entire life to trying to catch up to All Might. He sacrificed everything, he broke every record, he's arrested the most villains of any hero in history. He turned into a monster out of his own obsession to be better than All Might, to catch and surpass him.

But when he goes up against High-End, he realizes that he was never even close. His life's ambition, the very reason he breathed, and he never had a chance.

He realized that a long time ago. That realization was the reason he started up his eugenics plan.

What the High-End fight does is imply that even though he knew deep down it was impossible (for him personally, at least) he still couldn't give up, because he's just that bullheaded.

Though he was also trained by the government so he’s not completely self-made.

If anything he is the opposite of self-made. The authorities more or less railroaded him into being a Pro Hero since they figured a kid who could already pull off a rescue like that at his age had great potential. His dream of a world where Heroes don't have to do so much work may simply be a desire to regain control over his own life.

And the way his dream is framed I doubt he ever wanted to be a hero.

Just look at his face in that flashback to his childhood as he listens to the adults deciding his future. He really doesn't seem enthusiastic about the whole thing.

[up][up]He clearly wants to be a hero. We have seen his thoughts and such. And Heroes are allowed to do as they please so he has perfect control of his life. (He can always quit if he wanted.)

But he wants to do this and he wants to make the world an easier place to live in.

[up]Seems more like his normal stoic face.

Shit I feel bad for Hawks now. sad

Guess he represents a hero who was forced to be one because of their potential.

It does seem like he was railroaded into the profession, with it just being a happy coincidence that he's probably the type of person who would have become a Hero anyway.

Shoto seems that way as well, ironically(?) or coincidentally(?) given the Endeavor thing.

It seems like he remains a Hero partly out of...obligation I guess? The government did provide for him and his family in the course of his training.

Peoples expectations can be a burden of their own and make someone feel like they don't have control over their life. Wanting to be a hero and having others expect him to be the hero they want him to be can be entirely different things. So his dream gives a strong impression that whatever desire he had has been soured because he's expected to do things. Same reason they came to him to be a spy because they expect him to be the kind of hero who can take this job.

Unlike All Might and Endeavor who chose their paths of their own volition.

The light/dark imagery in the scene with Dabi too helps. Very Devilman-esque in its use. Devilmans sun imagery is associated with its Big Bad and Hori is a fan of Debiruman.

Yeah, I feel like in Hawks' case, he did want to be a hero, but he didn't get a chance decide that (or what type of hero to be) by himself. I guess it would be kinda like a musician who wants to play one genre, but gets forced into focusing on another one. They're still doing what they wanted to do, but not in the way they wanted.

I hope we get to see the little reflections of each match like the first one.

They said it in the chapter, but it took me a bit to realize that, yeah, Kirishima and Tsuyu were more serious than the others. Talking about how they could have been killed and didn't want to lose anyone on the team...

Maybe a better word to use would be "heavy". It's not like any of them (besides Kaminari) were relaxed but Koda and Shinso didn't have the same kind of...vibe, I guess.

What about those who wants a job but the quirks themselves are very unfit for it?

For example: A guy with a "Ignite" quirk (Basic function: anything he stares and squints at for too long bursts into flames. Sunglasses does not block this effect, only ignites the glasses. Same goes for glass and plastic, which melts it instead as the user is technically looking at them from very close up. Eyelids alone capable of blocking the quirk.) wants to be a lifeguard.

Will he be arrested for using a quirk that might set off during the job he wants more than anything else?

(Oh yes, I forgot to mention: Water does not ignite from his quirk, it just starts to boil...rapidly. The ocean is the only large mass of water that doesn't turn into a giant pot of scalding water when he gaze at it, hence why he which to be a lifeguard at sea.)

What would the government do in this situation? Provide a license to keep him from being thrown into jail from accidental ignitions or ban him from ever take a job requiring too much squinting.

What to do about these kind of people and quirks in their work aspirations?
