So I finished Stain's mini arc... God, that's one scary quirk to have.
Stain is proof that just because a status quo can be bad doesn't mean any fight against it should be condoned if it turns something worse.
"Cynicism is not realistic and tough. It's unrealistic and kind of cowardly because it means you don't have to try."I think manga readers get a little too invested in the specifics of adaptational changes. People who are approaching it from the perspective of just watching the anime aren't going to have that notion - They'll form an opinion based on if the arc stands on its own. Not on how it stacks up to some version of the arc in another medium that they don't even know what the differences are.

Stain def makes things worse. By all accounts, Tenya's brother was a great hero and Japan is less safe thanks to his loss.

I might read the manga to see the differences though, but yeah I'm really enjoying the Endeavor arc.
I might actually find Endeavor more interesting than Deku... that scares me.
It def was a mistake to remove the introduction of MHA Joker. All we have left is Detnerat's bit about going into the hero support business.

"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"I'm very curious to see Detnerat's CEO in action, since he actually has something of a secret identity.
And Norman Osborn is one of the few supervillains to have a secret identity to better contrast him with Spider-Man as someone who also fails to balance his secret life with his responsibilities.
Heck, Deku is becoming more like Spider-Man lately.
At least no one can toss Uraka off a bridge.
"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"Okay, banger episode right here.
So Endeavor happens to have a stalker supervillain who is obsessed with him and actually studied his personal life so he could threaten his family.
....Yeah Deku and Class A should really be worrying about their families right about now. Shigaraki might invite himself over for dinner at the Midoriya household.
And stalker man manages to capture Natsuo. Oh shit, it's going to be one of those supervillain fights huh? One where Endeavor has to confront his past mistakes in a fight, and where his personal life and super hero life collide. Inject this shit into my veins, this is the drama I'm all for.
Oh, Deku and co are here. Well there's some great action here, Deku even saves some civilians with his Spider-Man powers, and they actually manage to defeat stalker man before Endeavor. Great pay off.
And then there's a heartfelt moment with Endeavor and his son. Damn, this shit is compelling, way better than whatever the hell Spider-Man is doing. But just imagine the bewildered bystanders and their reaction. Even stalker man is confused. I guess they don't realize Endeavor is an abusive dad and I don't think Natsuo is the type to open up to the public.
Then the episode ends with Endeavor being a dad and realizing he really is too toxic an influence on his family and decides to build them a house for them to stay away from him.
Really good stuff, Endeavor doesn't act entitled and is doing something that actually prioritizes his family over his own pride.
Great stuff.
And now we go back to school. Darn it. What training arc is up next?

"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"I love Endeavor's big line when he talks to Natsuo. He's not looking for forgiveness. He's looking for atonement. It starts off feeling like the arc is gonna lead into forgiving him, but then ends with Endeavor saying he doesn't want that. He can't just walk back from it.
It's such a good arc for his character.
Yeah and that's why Endeavor's big decision at the end is the essence of what being a dad is, doing what's best for his family. It'll be great for his ego if Natsuo forgives him and Endeavor can eat with his family, but no, Endeavor is not going to accept that and gives his family the space they need.
That's atonement alright.
"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"It's been said before, it's notable how poorly things with Endeavor could have been handled that it fuels just how amazing it has been. While Enji may never lose his Hate Dumb he earned plenty of fans with his development.

I think it helps that I had such low expectations for the Endeavor family drama show that competent balanced writing amazes me even more.
Okay, I'm told I should have read viglantes to make the next episode hurt me more but I tried to find physical copies and couldn't.
Sorry Rob.

You should be sorry.
You'll barely feel anything now, but it is what it is.
Go for it.
You had one job, Red! One Job!

,
It's a conspiracy! A conspiracy against my personal opinion!
....Yeah. Ok. It's fine.
<Secretly plots revenge>
One Strip! One Strip!I mean honestly even without the full Vigilantes context, I was so worked up seeing Aizawa's emotions during that moment that him actually crying was just...
Fuck, it hurt.
There's a few moments in the manga that really felt like gutpunches to me and that's one of the biggest.
He is a very broken man.

I really liked a specific bit in that arc. We see Izuku talking to Shoto, and Izuku says that Shoto is probably going to end up forgiving Endeavor eventually because he's a kind person. We also see Natsuo in the background, who overhears the conversation. Not only does Endeavor spot this, he realizes how it might unintentionally come off as insulting to Natsuo - so after the rescue, Endeavor explicitly goes out of his way to tell Natsuo that being unwilling to forgive him doesn't mean he isn't a kind person.
Holy shit, Bakugo murdered Deku.
So he was evil and the traitor all along.
"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"

That was pretty much the moment where I completely stopped worrying about Enji's arc not sticking the landing.
As much as I personally didnt like how the second half of season 5 adapted the manga and still think it is a clear downgrade to the source material, I am glad to see you still liking it Red.
