[up][up]Since when is Hawks Tokoyami's idol?

[up]The last time the spy at U.A. was mentioned was by Nedzu, when he was musing to himself is that the dorms let them better investigate the students, who they can't rule out as suspects. That was like chapter 97 or something.

I'll say it once more, the fandom cares way more about that plot point than Hori does.

That doesn't make it not a plot point though.

I just remembered the movie comes out on disc tommorow in Japan.

So we should be getting the All Might Rising special tommorow.

The traitor hasn't been explicitly mentioned in a while, but it's definitely been alluded to with the Hawks stuff dealing with spying and moles and the fakeout about Aoyama acting suspicious.

Does anyone actually read these?

[up] True, but since it hasn't really been actually adressed in a while, it kinda feels like it's been way too long for it to have been. I don't get it, was Hawks supposed to be the traitor or something?

Edited by unfortunatezorua on Feb 4th 2019 at 5:28:10 PM

Well, that’d be jus’ a waste. Why would ya want to deprive the world of such anomaly as yourself?

[up]This isn't the kind of thing that just goes away. I'm not super invested in it like a lot of other people are, but a plot point not being mentioned in awhile isn't the same thing as being forgotten. The OFA vestiges were in a similar position until recently.

I assume the point about Hawks was that Horikoshi remembers that spying is a thing, not that Hawks is the spy for U.A. (which would make no sense at all).

It's that Hawks pretending to be a mole for the villains seems like it could easily lead into revealing the existing mole for the villains, as well as bringing the element of the villains wanting spies among the heroes back into play.

Does anyone actually read these?

Volume 22 character profiles.

And translations:

Setsuna Tokage (16): Text above her: The "Is there a first year that dresses like this" Likes: Dinosaurs. Her costume can regenerate. I received a heated message from that captain with a nice way of looking at the camera. Thank You Ashihara sensei.
Yui Kodai (15): Likes: Matryoshka. She doesn't speak much and her expression doesn't change. Is she simply not surprised by much or does she simply not have an interest in things? In middle school, the boys formed a fanclub for her but she didn't notice that and graduated.
Sen Kaibara (16): Likes: Camera. Truly an "ikemen". He's rather belligerent but he also gets dragged along. I like his quirk so I want to draw him again.
Kojiro Bondo (15): Likes: making Plastic models. He's an easygoing guy. His room is filled with plastic models. He's quite busy with his hero studies and can't find time to build them. I also have Tie fighter and X-Wing models.
Togaru Kamakiri (15): Likes: collecting insects. In the past, I was influenced by Jean-Henri Fabre's Souvenirs entomologiques and collected insects. One day, I found a mantis on the road and was like "YES!" and when I lifted it by the torso, a long and narrow poo like thing came out

Fairly certain the translator left some stuff out for Kamakiri.

Man, Kamakiri's outfit looks like it was designed by Tetsuya Nomura.

"came winding out of it and when I pulled it out, well it was quite long. It was longer than the mantis. It was a hair worm, a parasite. I wonder why I'm writing this."

That's the rest of the Kamakiri's bio. I was pretty curious about him, so I can't say I'm not a little disappointed, when all the other recent profiles had uh... more relevant info. Outfit is suitably edgy, based on what we've seen of him though.

So long as we're linking stuff -

More 1b hero names. (Jack Mantis is by far the best of that bunch, I think.)

Also official colors for Yui, Pony, Setsuna, and Juzo. (Juzo looks like a traffic cone.)

Honestly hilarious that the glue guy is named "plastic model". Now I headcanon that he tried to go with the full word and Midnight made him shorten it.

With a closer look I actually like all of those color schemes.

The hero names are welcome. With that, Tsubura, Pony, Yui, Reiko, and Nirengeki are the only ones in Class B whose ones we don't know.

And we still need Bakugo's and Shoto's for Class A. And whatever Shinso's is going to be.

Obviously her ability to name things was not the reason Tokage was scouted, because that is a terrible alias.

also it means the recommended girls in the first year are creaty and lizardy

c'mon horikoshi

What I've been told is that Yui's costume is a reference to Ultraman. Seeing everyone together like that though makes me realize how 3/4 of them were given a red/orange scheme with white(ish) accents. Ultimately I don't really care that much, but I wouldn't have minded a tiny bit more variety.

Maybe Lizardy and Creaty sound a little better to a Japanese-speaking audience? I'm obviously not in a place where I can judge that, but that's my hope.

It's definitely and Ultraman reference, I've brought that up before.

A lot of these names run on "It sounds English, and that's cool".

Honestly, the silly-sounding names are practically the standard for the classes at this point. I mean, we have Froppy, Creaty, Pinky, Grape Juice, Can't Stop Twinkling, etc.

Thanks for reminding me that Aoyama really gave Midnight a whole English sentence and she worked something out for him, but Mina wasn't allowed to reference a scary movie. Truly there is no justice in the world.

Considering that Bnha is set what 100 years in the future I wonder if the Alien franchise are just these old movies that Ashido managed to find and become enamored with because it was kind of like her quirk! Or whether the franchise is still going and the Xenomorphs have managed to become the heroes and friends to all children the way that Godzilla and Gamera did

Ashido likes Alien(s) 13 where the Xenomorphs help save a youth center from being bulldozed by winning a ski contest and also by melting the bulldozer

Despite probably being set in the fairly distant future, a lot of contemporary or close to it references for us, also seem to be so for the characters.

A trade off I guess, for the series not actually being written by a guy from the 22nd century.
