Red and White Mushrooms are iconic to the series since its been a part of Mario so long. So seeing those and you get the association with them.

Yeah, its kinda baffling from Finnish perspective too how Super Mario Bros. power up is a poisonous mushroom tongue (I don't know if that mushroom isn't common outside of nordic countries, but seriously, its like super common here too)

Yeah, in my head the general rule is plain white is edible, red with white spots will kill you.

Although I'm aware some plain white ones can also kill you.

As I recall anything covered in a variety of bright colors is poisonous.

Like a bright purple and orange frog/toad, that shit is hella poisonous.

Yeah, but apparently all you need to do is cook them.

A lot of so-called 'edible' mushrooms are actually poisonous if they're not cooked.

Also the fatal dose of A. muscaria is, like, eating fifteen of them in one go.

Not necessarily. It can also be a case of adaptive mimicry. Sometimes non-poisonous/ venomous species will mimic the colouration of a species that is dangerous to deter predators. I know there's a species of snake in North America (the corn snake I thing... but not certain) that does that.

It is of course a rather risky strategy given that it's the equivalent of bluffing a room full of murderers with an empty toy gun. A toy gun that makes you even more noticable at that. It works for the animals most of the time since the predators are usually not able to tell the difference. Usually.

It also kind of sucks as a strategy even for the actually poisonous ones since they sometimes run into a predator who has not yet learned that "bright spots = yucky poison".

I wonder how the anime is going to colorize her mushrooms...

Red-white all the way or are we perhaps going to get mario references with green-doted purple ones as well?

Also, on the topic of those swedish mushrooms, I wonder if she got the color-scheme from them, or got influenced by MHA-version of Super Mario released in Japan. (Except she is a much more capable version of Princess Peach in this case, since she is the "Mushroom Princess", for real, considering that she also want to be a idol-hero...)

Speaking of her outfit, do anyone else think that it might be a bit...risky?

Especially when people of Mineta's size gets involved in the equation...

She was naming all the species she was producing (or at least a lot of them), so they could just color them that way.

Yeah, I wouldn't eat any white mushrooms I find if I were you. Amanita virosa in particular looks very similar to edible shrooms.

Just to make sure...

Mushrooms are parasites, right?

Neither plant or animal (but closer related to animals than plants) right?

If "yes" on both then that makes the question...

...where is her mushrooms getting nourishment to sprout that quickly from?

No, mushrooms are the fruiting, spore-bearing bodies of (many) fungus.

Oh wait... I just found my answer.

(Mushrooms grows by cell enlargement, meaning that once the mushroom starts fruiting, it will not change its original mass, but instead have its cells ballooning by absorbing water into itself.)

The fuel is water, regardless of its source.

Cooking renders many toxic proteins harmless by denaturing them. That said, the more toxic Amanitas aren't rendered safe by cooking and will destroy your liver. There's a reason they have an entry under Tampering with Food and Drink.

General rule of thumb when foraging in the wild: don't guess. You either know for certain what kind of mushroom it is and whether it's safe to eat, or you don't. If you're not 100% sure — don't eat it. You are literally gambling your life on the % of uncertainty.
