I bleev it says somewhere in some side notes that he wears the mask to hide his face from other people because it scares them.

Bewitching EyesWhat if he was (to use a real life example) one of those people who, early on in life, really needed a set of braces for their teeth, but never got one due to the family being poor or another kind of reason.
And instead for actually getting braces, he just cover his mouth up.
Much cheaper.

I could kinda see it happening. He's only 15/16, so if he grew up with all his peers telling him to cover up his gross-looking face, or saying that he'd just scare everyone off if he tried to become a hero - that might leave an impact. It did for Shinso and Deku.
But yeah, I really do hope there's more than that though. It has the potential to be really interesting.
Being Quirkless like Izuku is rare. Having a brainwashing Quirk like Shinso is rare.
Someone looking weird or inhuman is not unusual in this world, and whatever his mouth may look like (we're assuming his mouth actually looks weird at all, at this point in time basically everyone seems desensitized to appearance (except for occasional comedic moments), just because of the sheer variety that exists now.
The first two just aren't comparable to the latter.
Edit: Plus, Shoji doesn't seem particularly bitter about the mask. When Nejire asked about it he was like "Oh this, it's because a long time ago-" before she cut him off. It doesn't seem like a sore spot in the way Todoroki's scar is.

I mean, there’s a list for heroes the public thinks look like villains, so no, I do think that some people might be scared of him, especially kids.
Oh God! Natural light!Or Shoji just started playing "secret superhero" games in his childhood, doing good deeds (helping out) in "secret" (aka "Everyone knew who he was despite covering his face, but played along since what he did was harmless and adorable despite that he would feel embarrassed by it if he knew everyone knew he did small-scale "heroic" things as a little kid".) and this good feeling stayed with him whenever he put the mask on from those memories, driving him to pursue heroism for real as a life goal, and he kept the mask as a memento of his motivation and drive behind "why" he wants to be a hero.
Just a theory and a guess, of course...

I notice we didn't get Pony's Hero Name. I'd go with something like "Equestria" or if I'm being really terrible, "My Little".
I wonder if the names of those that weren't directly mentioned will be added in the volume release or whatever. He's done most of them so far, but we didn't get Tsuburaba's or Kendo's (we know hers from a databook, but not everyone reads those).
Pardon the interruption but my friend and I have been trying to figure out something and if there is a definitive canon answer somewhere.
Was All Might's skinny "normal" form the result of his injuries? He was supposed to have been in better shape than Midoriya when he inherited One For All so I figured he used tobe bulky all the time but I have no idea.
This is what All-Might looked like when he was young, before he received One For All
, I believe.
The bulked up form was something I believe he achieved after receiving One For All and years of training, but the shriveled-up him isn't exactly the "normal" him, either.
Oh God! Natural light!

I don't know. Probably related to why he always wears that mask, though.
