This could be awesome.
Or not- he has said some somewhat offensive (misogynistic) things at various times (And I'm no political correctness fiend, by any means).
But when he sticks to his preferred topics, he's usually great.
I tend to agree with him on a lot of other stuff (like the atheism)...

Now I have the image of Dawkins playing guitar like a fucking champion in my head.
But in all seriousness, it seems a bit of an... odd choice from them, to say the least. I normally don't particularly mind spoken word in metal, (assuming that's what he'll be doing) but I don't really think that Dawkins' voice lends itself well to the style at all. It is Nughtwish though, the most light of the fluffy fairy metals, so I suppose Dawkins won't seem too out of place...
"I thought Djent was just a band" -Physical StaminaNow THAT'S a hilarious image!
Oh Metalheads and their dislike of "wimpy", "gay" Metal. Good music is NOT determined by how heavy it is, as I've said many times before (at least, it isn't for me- I s'pose it's different for everyone). Though mostly my objection to that comment and others like it comes from calling it stuff like "fairy" Metal, "gay" Metal or even "faggoth". Unfortunate Implications much?
In all seriousness though, I have heard quite a few kinda offensive things from Metalheads over the years along those lines.
Back to the main point though. It might work, and at least Dawkins' seems like a decent choice from a thematic standpoint...

I'm assuming its going to be like the end of Song of Myself where the actual song will fade out into in Dawkins' spoken word segment. Or, conversely, it may be an opener to the song, like how Within Temptation used Winston Churchill audio clips to open Our Solemn Hour.

I wouldn't call Nightwish light(though fairy could well describe their more fantasy-based stuff
), but rather more dramatic and bombastic than heavy. They're pretty much the epitome of Symphonic metal, if not the Trope Codifier.
They're not even the "lightest" band I've heard. That probably goes to Amaranthe's "happy metal"/very angry euro pop.

Yeah, fair enough. I wasn't really using my more 'harsh' terms there as a serious criticism of the music, merely as a bit of an affectionately jeering descriptor.
This is only vaguely related; I don't have a problem with less 'heavy' music, and heaviness does not necessarily mean quality. I do, however, have a problem with bands unnecessarily 'weakening'(for lack of a better word) their music in the pursuit of a more commercial and accessible sound. It almost always seems to be done for money, and almost always seems to be a compromise of an artistic vision.

Aha, sorry.
I misinterpreted / misrepresented your comment. My bad...
Fair enough- you actually do make a very valid point here, especially as that issue affects Metal / Punk / Alternative / Industrial/Goth artists- Metallica is a good example of that in a Metal context. The Black Album was okay, albeit not as good as its predecessors, but Load and Reload were definite compromises artistically to pursue commercial ends, ad the less said of St. Anger the better...
"Soft" music tends to better when played by bands who have always played that style of music, there are only a relatively few examples of bands who have softened / commercialized their sounds and actually stayed good while doing so...

Apparently he is one of Tuomas's favourite authors and is doing a spoken word segment on one of the songs.
Imma just gonna find a safe spot and watch the base break in the inevitable fiery rage.
