[up] That's cool. I was worried there would be some sudden appearance of plot to tie it up at the end.

For the record, Lemmings also commit suicide. :)

I thought the parasytes were basically shown to be aliens in the first episode. Didn't the little snakes get beamed down or something?. I would assume the adult form of his species will show up near the end.

I got the impression Ryuko's baby is human because they are human from the neck down. (this does raise the odd question of why they eat people, why can't they just get nutrition like Migi does? Eating people is actually bad, since, aside from the obvious problem of drawing attention, people aren't strictly carnivores and your more likely to get diseases that way anyway(although they can defend against some of those). )

It's a damn good point that they no business calling humans irrational, considering what A-san's doing.

A's actions seem pretty rational to me. It's just that he has simpler, less imaginative goals to pursue than Reiko and Migi since he doesn't share their curiosity about humanity and themselves. He just wants to eat people and eliminate any threats that might reduce his chances of eating people. From his perspective, Shinichi is an unpredictable entity with alien motivations who's already killed two of his kind. That makes him a threat, and means he has to go.

Attacking the school in broad daylight may seem crazy and reckless, but remember that he's killed everyone who's seen his powers, that the injuries he leaves apparently look like knife-wounds, and that any other sort of eyewitness is irrelevant because he can duck suspicion by changing his face and clothes. Plus, he's going up against an aberrant parasite without proper control of its body, so the biggest threat in the building is still entirely beatable. His plan may be noisy as hell, but it shouldn't cause any long-term problems for himself or his species if it works, and he has plenty of reason to believe it should work.

Although there's no way anyone is capable of killing an entire school with a knife or even a sword, so that's bound to raise a lot of questions. Somebody would call the police before he would be able too anyway. I don't think most of these aliens/whatever they are even care all that much about keeping up the masquerade as long as they can individually not be found out though. Still...A-san is stupid.

[up][up]You would think they would get all sorts of diseases from ingesting human blood if they're human from the neck down. Oh well, manga.

Loves feel-good animation a whole lot.

He didn't need to kill the whole school. Just Shinichi, anyone getting in his way who he couldn't remove through non-masquerade-breaking means (see also, that guy he punched out but left alive), and anyone who saw him use his powers. That's a much more realistic goal, especially given the bodycount that mass stabbing incidents in Japan have sometimes managed to cause.

A google search turns out a Wikipedia article recounting a variety of recorded animal suicides. In general, if someone says "Humans are the only species on the planet that does X", there's a fair chance that there's a whole bunch of animals doing X, from the trivial "tripping on the same stone twice" to homosexuality, every form of couple or family imaginable, infanticide, parricide, political manipulation, killing for fun, killing for no reason, and so on and so forth.

So, really, whenever aliens and robots in fiction get all condescending about this stuff, I feel the sort of annoyance that'd be caused by a high-school student trying to say something thought-provoking and clever and falling flat on his or her ass. That "We are not amused.-_-" thing.

The Parasytes are figuring everything out from scratch. Social morality as long-term, enlightened self-interest takes a long time to come up with without mammal empathic impulses to back it up. But those impulses were developed for good reason.

Sigh. I only wish this sort of story were written by actual evolutionary biologists. The horror stories they could come up with... The genealogy of morals isn't pretty.

[up]Me too, especially if you pay close attention to the opening theme. I doubt this will end well for them. For now, I'm enjoying the development that they're getting.

The scene from the last episode was resolved quickly; good job, Shinichi. I liked Tamiya's interactions with the humans. Shows that she has a lot to learn about the human race.

Shinichi, that was actually kind of badass on your part. You brought a tube to a tentacle blade thingy fight and you won.

OXYGEN IS NOT FLAMMABLE WHAT THE FUCK MADHOUSE NO WONDER MAYURAMA LEFT TO MAKE MAPPA WORST ANIME 2013 DROPPED LIKE A SACK OF HOT POTATOES COVERED IN SHIT.

Wow, poor Ryoko's mom. RIP in peperony and chease.

Sorry parents. I mean, you suddenly gain the spotlight for most of an episode? And you talk about your history and relationship with Shinichi? You're so dooooooooooomed.

Shinichi's dad is best character. "What, was he spanking the monkey or something?". Perfect reaction from the mother, too!

"A heart attack? That would be inconvenient." Or maybe Migi is best character.

Migi x Shinichi OTP

[up][up]Oxygen would make a flame burn much brighter, but it's not flammable nor combustible. Well, by itself, it isn't. However, other things that wouldn't be flammable or combustible otherwise become absolutely dangerous during high oxygen concentrations.

You can't flame oxygen, but oxygen makes things flame. The more oxygen there is, the easier they flame.

That was well done, and I felt it captured the shock in the manga pretty well, but that cliffhanger was indeed aggravating.

Iwaaki's storytelling style is focused more on the overall narrative than on individual chapters, so when it reaches a powerful moment like this it's shocking and meaningful, very well-executed. Conversely, because the narrative likes to build up such moments, it means that you really want to go through it all in one go. Stopping mid-way is difficult because you just want to see more.

The ending was expected, but I wasn't expecting the development to occur so soon. I'm surprised that Migi didn't go ahead and impale his mom from the get-go. Perhaps he knew that the parasyte could counter his sneak attack?

I'm reading the corresponding chapters after each episode, and I'm really impressed with the adaptation so far. It's very faithful to the source material, and the parts of the story that they do modify (such as the sequencing and omission of a few events) make each episode flow smoothly.

[up]This episode (and I think Episode 3) ended in the middle of a chapter, and you're right — I really wanted to read what happened next. sad

Man, that just kinda hurt to watch. I understood what was going to happen and that didn't make it any less sad. That was a great ending scene.

Whatever music was playing when Shinichi's mom was walking in was fantastic, too.

Episode 6

- Migi could do that? Okay, great.

- Dad's still alive, but for how long with that thing on the loose?

- Please just tell him the truth already.

- Why does this chick want Shinichi so bad?

- Migi's been weakened, but Shinichi has been amplified.

Another cliffhanger! I couldn't believe 22 minutes passed so quickly!

Loves feel-good animation a whole lot.
