So after getting Best Buy to fix my computer and install Windows 10 properly I've gotten a chance to try it out. So far I like it. The lack of a start menu is good although I wish I could get rid of the "Search the web and Windows" bar in the corner. Is Microsoft Edge as great as I've heard? I tend to use Firefox but might switch if it's really that good.
Perhaps they could store it in the Start menu or something.

That's odd, I was able to upgrade from XP to Vista without losing any data. I thought the OS that had a dramatically different file storage system was Windows 9x with the FAT16/32 system?
Addendum to that: And that's how I managed to go from XP to 7 without losing any data, namely by using Vista as a halfway point...
I have disagreed with her a lot, but comparing her to republicans and propagandists of dictatorships is really low. - An idiotSo I got the notification that my free upgrade to Windows 10 is ready today. What's the general assessment of this new iteration?
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. It runs pretty well for the most part. The revised Start menu is miles better than the silly Start screen, though it's not like the old Start menu from eons past.
Edge is ok, but it's terrible with organizing bookmarks and it had put my list of bookmarks from Chrome in reverse order.
Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order.Wait, are you comparing to Win 7 or Win 8? Because I've been using the former since I bought this comp in 2012.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. My download finished yesterday; I'm going to wait until tomorrow to install though.

From the articles I've seen, you can choose whether you want to create install media for 32-bit or 64-bit versions of Windows 10. You still are limited in terms of the edition (Home or Pro) you can upgrade to, though.
As to my problems, a restore yielded a single-language Windows 8.1. Well, I'm commiting regardless...
I have disagreed with her a lot, but comparing her to republicans and propagandists of dictatorships is really low. - An idiotHm. I'm on a 32-bit Vista machine. It looks like I'm better off buying a brand new computer than upgrading to Windows 10. Everyone I've spoken to seem to quite like Windows 10, certainly in preference to 7 or 8, anyway.
If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading. So does anyone have a reliable pros-vs-cons comparison between Win 7 and Win 10? I don't want to make the switch only to find that I was better off with the old one.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Yeah, I did the compatibility check just out of curiosity, and the report back was that I could upgrade my machine from Vista - but I would have to buy the upgrade product. I don't see the point, given how old my machine is. My graphics card can't handle Vista updates without crashing my media players, so I'd have to buy a new graphics card anyway. I've held off buying the new computer until I heard what Windows 10 was like, but I'm buying a new house at the moment, so I may as well throw in a new computer while I'm at it... and may be set up a computer/tv entertainment centre in the new house. Yeah, that sounds like a plan, actually.

I assume that you're responding to the poster above that post of mine.
Windows 10's compatibility with some modern games appears to be a little dicey. Criterion Games' Need for Speed: Most Wanted almost always crashes on launch, and then loads and plays normally on the second attempt.
Is there some command to get the task manager to be able to display in full screen mode like in Windows 8.1? I've managed to become stuck several times because the task manager wasn't what the computer focused on no matter how much I tried.

, keep in mind that some of them may not work on your computer after updating, even if it says they should.

It keeps everything you have on your hard drive. It only reformats it if you want to do a clean install.
