June 23th, Wednesday, 6:35 pm. Location: St. Arthelais.

It's just another ordinary day for most of the people that inhabit this city. Summer has just recently started, but the climate is strangely pleasant thanks to the terraforming efforts that have turned this location in a verdant ground despite being located in a nigh-barren region. That is the way St. Arthelais has always been, even since its humble beginnings: A seemly perfect place, surrounded by an otherwise weary and adverse world. In a certain way, this peace and comfort has made its people complacent, for they go around living their seemly prosperous existence, uncaring and unsuspecting of the strange changes that are progressively happening around them...

High above the ground, imperceptible to ordinary people, a white and teal creature watches over the urban panorama. While mostly indifferent to human tribulations and endeavors, this sentry looks at them with great intend and curiosity, for among them there are special individuals under its supervision. So far, these recruits have proven to be quite interesting and useful... But, just like everything in this universe, even the most efficient and resilient things eventually break apart. The creature can only hope they last long enough for them to carry out their mission...

Julia's Apartment (Julia & Mariya)

Reunited in a rather fancy, but somewhat messy apartment, a high-school student and her teacher discuss some pressing matters while having a light lunch. Officially, they have met under the pretense of these reunions being extra-official tutoring sessions... But both know this is merely a convenient excuse to prevent most people from asking uncomfortable questions, for their true purpose is something far more pressing and dangerous.

Ever since they met, Mariya and Julia have been working together in order to locate and combat the entities known as Witches. So far, they've proven to be a highly successful team, but with the sudden increase of “incidents” around the city, they suspect that their strength alone won't be enough to take care of them all in a near future.

Today, they plan to recruit another member to the team, a girl named Hei Ryung Pyon, a high-school student from another institute who Julia suspects might be a Puella Magi too. While they've had some false-positives already, they still intend to contact with this girl personally and, in case she turns to be the real-deal, try to convince her to form an alliance with them.

Pyon's Residence (Hei Ryung)

Currently alone at home, and extremely bored, Hei Ryung ponders what she should do next in order to spend the rest of her afternoon. Unfortunately, she had to cancel her previous plans after her sister informed her she would spend the rest of the day along with some friends. Fortunately, her parents have always been rather lenient with her, always giving her enough freedom to do her own thing without ever being subject to heavy scrutiny, allowing her to do almost anything she wanted as long as she didn't get in trouble... In theory, she had the whole afternoon to do whatever she wanted, but right now, she didn't know what to do.

Even though she had some pending homework, that prospect didn't appeal to her right now... And waiting for adventure to come knocking to her door not only seemed unlikely, but also rather bothersome. Maybe she could go “hunting” for a while... Or maybe she could do something else all together... Who knows? When it came to Hei Ryung, the only certainty you had is that there was none...

Angel Grove Mall (Seika)

Today's afternoon had been rather disappointing to Seika... Not because something particularly bad had happened to her, mind you, but because the videogame she was looking for was out of stock in all the stores she visited today. Even though acquiring a digital copy of it was far more convenient and faster, to such an avid fan of games, having a true physical copy of it was always far more substantial and rewarding in its own peculiar way.

“Defeated”, and kinda tired, she decided to return home and place an order online... When suddenly, she caught a glimpse of something strange in the corner of her eye: A black shadow with bright eyes phasing through a crowd of people. Even though she could only see it for an instant, Seika immediately recognized it as an enemy: A stray Familiar, one of the Witches' servants. Even though killing them didn't “yield any bounty”, the girl still felt compelled to follow it in the hopes it might take her to its Labyrinth, the place where its “boss” and the “prize” were located.

Seika Kugimiya (Angel Grove Mall)

Seika sighed as she got the answer she expected though she hoped for it to be otherwise. Battle Runner looked like a fun little game, hype had been building around its premiere at a gaming conference and this small indie game quickly became highly expected among PC gamers. Stylistic, cartoony graphics around a premise of a mostly online player vs player game in a classic capture the flag format. It was a third person game where players would go in with various classes and kill one another trying to get the flag. One could carry the flag fast but was easy to kill, another class could take a lot of damage and deal a lot but was very slow, and others were somewhere inbetween. Having just moved here, Seika had not had the opportunity to reserve a copy of the game. She had to cancel the one she had at a local game store in her old town but by the time she got here nobody was taking reservations and there wasn't enough supply to meet demand.

Disappointed, Seika wandered out from the game shop and down the mall towards the exit. At least there were digital copies so she wouldn't be put off. This was quite a nice mall, everything in this city seemed new and super-modern. It was a wonder her father could manage to find a job in this place, his job usually brought them to cities struggling for survival while this one was positively booming. Seika's mind wandered from topic to topic until something caught her eye, and her mood changed to focused and serious in an instant. This was why she got to play video games less and less, it was a familiar.

The thing was in a crowd, a bad situation. These little guys didn't often manage to split off from their Witch but eventually they would grow into one, by eating people, or find their way back. But Seika couldn't transform in a crowd, nor could she fight with non-magical people around, it would bring too many questions she dealt with before. Not that it would stop her as Seika wouldn't risk allowing someone to die, but she resisted and started to move towards the thing, waiting for it move itself.

Outside of Angel Grove Mall (Seika)

Fortunately for Seika, the Familiar didn't seem to have any interest in the crowd it phased through. Instead of trying to affect any of them, it raced far into the distance in a sudden burst of speed, disappearing almost as suddenly as it came.

While searching for it with sight alone was mostly futile, a Soul Gem could easily pick up its tracks at this very moment. The trail wouldn't last for long, but the window of opportunity was generous enough for Seika to give it chase, even at foot, and attempt to intercept it in a less populated area... As long as she reacted as fast as possible.

Seika Kugimiya (Near Angel Grove Mall)

As Seika stalked her prey, it suddenly burst off with great speed. Seika cursed under her breath and put a hand to her Soul Gem's necklace, transforming it into its egg form in the palm of her hand. She glanced at it to get a heading and gripped it in her fist, shooting off like a gun, pushing through a light area of the crowd, much to the displeasure of those she bumped into, and getting to the side to run on. This one is fast, I need to find a spot to pop into Ranger to follow it. But if the familiar gets back to its witch this could mean the witch will be just as fast. I should change to Crusader before going into the labyrinth. I don't want to fight a witch with its own strong point.

Julia squeezed the black glove in her fist, flexing the fingers to check her grip. She then zipped the leather jacket with some difficulty at the chest height, and closed her wardrobe. The reflecting mirror gave back a menacing, frowning stare. And there she was, a completed dark biker girl. Having finished her own sandwich in a couple of greedy munches, she advanced towards the living room where Mariya was.

She never got why people like her fell on the Incubator's clutches. Truly, her life had been far from ideal, but she had a great potential to carve a place in this cold, neon illuminated world. It made her laugh at times. Her, the pimple plagued spaguetti sow of the highschool, how they used to call her, had managed to endure the laughs... and fought her hardest to become a self made woman, and a better world...

...while all the more graceful girls, a few of them who had tried to befriend her despite her outcast status had been taken by the ruthless grasp of aliens. How could she stay and sit idle when she had seen too much? Perhaps if her hand had reached Mariya, she could have avoided her even becoming a magical girl and she could be a scientist, a model or whatever she wanted.

"How's the sandwich?" Julia said, idly fidgetting with a couple of helmets in her hands, before dropping violently on the couch. "We'll be doing a little visit to that new candidate. There isn't much to think on how to do it. But, can you stay focused for long enough to actually give a decent impression and convince her we're comrades enough? I'd be really screwed if I suddenly become the teacher who kidnaps girls."

"...- and the freshmen are going to be so cute, though! I remember this one time last year when I crossed paths with one during the first week of school. He was a little boy, had only sort of started hitting puberty, you know? Not even peach fuzz. He looked at me and you know I knew what he was thinking, heehee. It's like those stories in English where the wandering traveler finds a lovely maiden. Maybe a siren? I dunno what I'd count as..." The tiny voice of a young teenaged girl wafted out from the room where Julia had left her charge with a snack, a whisper only audible because there wasn't much ambient noise to drown it out. If one didn't know any better they could have assumed that it was just a high-schooler being stealthy on the phone with a friend for any number of petty and childish reasons.

"Hey there, Miss Crow." Mariya had been slouching in her chair most likely, but she was straight-backed at attention the moment Julia's first footstep impacted against the floor of the living room. She was turned around, a bright and chipper smile eased over her youthful face. Her voice was such that even at normal volume she sort of sounded like she was whispering anyways, but at the very least her diction was impeccable to the point of being audible even with such a naturally light voice.

The sandwich was reduced to crumbs and bits of crust scattered over her plate, whatever else she was Mariya was still a teenager and ate like one. "It was good, thank you for making it for me." She stood up from her seat and, holding the plate reverently as if it were her religious idol, she brought it to the sink. And while she did, she continued on with what she had been murmuring earlier:

"... But that's besides the point, isn't it? What I was trying to say is it's super adorable, the look of surprise that was on his face! Youth isn't wasted on the young, no sir. It's that naive outlook that makes everything they do so... fascinating? I don't know how to describe it..."

Mariya's habit of talking to herself in this manner was something that it was possibly to grow accustomed to, but never really be totally comfortable with. As she turned back to Julia she was theoretically looking at her elder, eye to eye, but there was a certain loss of information in the transaction. Like Mariya was looking through Julia at that moment, versus actually at her. Mariya insisted when asked that the spirits were all around, but she refused to say anything else on the matter. Instead, she'd put on a polite smile and put on such a thick act of 'you didn't see anything' that it was possible that she actually believed that nobody noticed he regularly talking to things that weren't there to anybody but her.

"... but it's not much of an issue, I have to suppose!" Without skipping a beat, a microsecond, "Of course, Miss Crow. I'm always on my best behavior, don't you know? I just hope we'll actually be able to find somebody else this time around..."

Near a storage facility, far from Angel Grove Mall (Seika)

Having ran as fast as she could in such a sudden manner left Seika temporally out of breath; even though her physique was enhanced after she became a Puella Magi, she still wasn't accustomed to strenuous physical activity due to her sedentary life style up to this point... In other words, despite being stronger and having better stamina, her running technique was still rather inefficient.

However, her effort proved to be quite effective, as she managed to catch up with the Familiar. Now that she had a clearer view of her enemy, Seika took notice of its peculiar form: This creature clearly resembled a goat... A rather disgusting goat that looked like something a surrealist artist would paint during a fever dream, but the basic aspects of one were still clear enough for her to make the association.

Also, it seemed like the creature was specifically looking for something... A conduct that she hadn't seen up to this point. During her past battles, she had only seen Familiars acting like guardians to their masters in the best of cases, or as mindless killers in the worst, which is why she was so alarmed when she saw this one phasing through the large crowd near the mall. While it was intriguing, she didn't have the time to ponder about the implications behind this conduct, time was of the essence...

Luckily, the entity didn't seem to have noticed her, and there didn't seem to be other people around this zone, so she had the chance to transform and perform a surprise attack in order to try to neutralize it in a single strike.

Seika Kugimiya (Getting Lost Somewhere)

Seika followed and followed the thing until it had stopped. This was a strange familiar, but she expected strange. It didn't matter because she had to kill it. Another Magical Girl might let it go and follow it or let it evolve so that it would give a Seed, but the thought hadn't crossed her mind. Now's my chance. Seika held up her Soul Gem and the thing dissipated, her entire body glowing bright white. There was no gradual change like other Magical Girls. Her outline changed suddenly, displaying the classes she had available to her from Crusader to Healer like selecting a hero on a video game. After cycling through them, she cycled back to the second one, Ranger, and the light faded.

Her hair changed to long blonde hair, ears decidedly elfish, and her outfit was now a green shirt and blue pants covered in leather armor. On her earring rested her soul gem, a blue rose. Seika wasted no time in summoning her bow and quiver and drew an arrow, taking silent aim and letting the arrow loose to strike down the familiar.

Near a storage facility (Seika)

As the arrow flew through the air, its appearance changed from a solid projectile to a bolt made of light. Had it hit the familiar with its full force, it would have been enough to completely obliterate it. However, despite having been taken by surprise, the creature used its absurd speed and reflexes to barely dodge Seika's attack... Only barely, for the arrow managed to graze its hind legs, destroying one of them and severely damaging the other one.

With its mobility crippled, the creature couldn't elude its chaser nor use its super-speed to its advantage anymore. So, instead of trying to run away, the Familiar stood firmly on its ground and emitted an eerie but thundering bellow that seemed to convey its aggressive intension. Now with its gaze intently focused on the Puella Magi that had just attacked it, the creature was ready to fight until one of them ceased to exist.

Seika, somewhere out there

Seika's eyes narrowed, this familiar was tougher than your average familiar. She brought out another arrow and took a hint from the usual methods of fighting on video games and started to strafe her target at a slow pace, easier and faster to react to whatever it did while moving. If it moved forward, Seika would jump backwards and if it attacked she would jump in the line she was strafing in to dodge. She unleashed an arrow, and quickly started to fire as many as she could until the thing died. Seika didn't want to waste any more magic than was necessary to kill the thing so avoided summoning her tiger pet.

Julia snorted. "What do you mean? It's costing me a boatload of money, you know. I'm going to squeeze the balls of that bastard if this whole thing is not giving results anytime soon." The woman said, while examining one of the helmets. It used to be hers, but for some reason she decided not to wear it anymore. A white helmet with a rose didn't go too well with her current black outfit. She tossed the helmet in Mariya's lap.

"Wear this. Magical girl as you are, you don't want to fall bareheaded from a motorbike." She added as she grabbed her black helmet. "Time to find that other one." She added, raising from the couch and walking in long strides towards the garage. Hopefully the clue this time was good, she thought to herself as she started the bike and sped towards where that Hei Ryung resided with Mariya on her back.

Near a storage facility (Seika)

With its eyes watching intently every move of its adversary, the Familiar managed to avoid most of the of arrows headed on its direction despite its crippling injury. Nonetheless, on its current condition, it would only be a matter of time before Seika's relentless offensive would deal a fatal strike on it... But the creature wasn't ready to give up its life without fighting till the bitter end.

The creature started to emit what appeared to be electric discharges which coursed all over its body, like lightning bolts generating inside a storm cloud. Then, in the blink of an eye, the creature concentrated all that energy in front of it, unleashing it in the form of an electric whip which it started to flail of its attacker's general direction.

Somewhere near a residential zone (Mariya and Julia)

And so, the teacher and the student headed towards the home of the alleged Puella Magi. Racing through the streets at a fast, but still secure pace, they would be there in a manner of minutes as long as they didn't find any heavy traffic... Something highly unlikely, given the tendency of this city's inhabitants to favor public transport, which meant traffic was always rather low, despite St. Arthelais being such a dense metropolis.

However, barely halfway through the route towards their destination, Mariya felt a sickening sensation, like a sudden migraine puncturing her head in a subtle, but still hurtful manner, as her Soul Gem started to flash with a faint glow imperceptible to anyone, but the the Puella Magi... The clear warning of the presence of an enemy of the nearby area.

Mariya

Mariya was compliant, but not in an especially quiet manner. She made notes about how strange she looked in a motorcycle helmet, decorated as this particular one she'd been given by Miss Crow was. Something in neutral-accented Russian and then something else about helmet hair. To be fair to Mariya her concerns, while petty, were well founded. She did have pretty nice hair to be messed up, after all. She had a casual grip around Julia's waist from behind, her seating on the cycle fairly secure if not especially comfortable.

"It's always so weird watching the city go by at this speed, isn't it?" That she actually bothered to try shouting that out meant that particular remark was definitely for Julia, as opposed to being something for the spirits of the damned, to be lost on the wind. She shifted suddenly at that, the visor of her helmet digging slightly into the blades of Julia's back. An ominous groan, as if she were about to vomit. But it wasn't motion sickness or the like. A Puella Magi was a tougher breed than that.

"Some kind of Witches presence in the area...! Should we stop?"

Theater of Arrowvale High (Ulrike)

Today was a great day for Ulrike: The play her fellow thespians and her have been working on during the past few months was just around the corner, and today they were doing a dress rehearsal, the first time they will perform the play from start to end.

The story? It was a high energy swashbuckling-tale, an action-comedy full of larger than life characters, lots of witty dialog and memorable scenes... A rather complex project for such young performers, but everyone on the club was so professional and dedicated, that they were certain they'd pull it off with flying colors.

And in the center of all, there was Ulrike, who was playing the highly coveted leading role: The dashing rogue, the king of pirates to whom there wasn't a challenge, either in battle or in love, that he couldn't defuse using his wits, reflexes and charisma. Other good actors (male actors) auditioned for the role, but none of them managed to impress the director as much as Ulrike did.

And now, standing on her private dressing room, with her outfit and make-up on, as she carefully examined her reflection on the mirror, it was clear that not only she could act the part, but that she nailed the look too. Right now, even an attentive eye could mistake the cute girl for a young Errol Flynn-type of manly hero.

She was ready to step out of the room in order to impress her comrades with her characterization... When an unexpected visitor appeared from behind her full-body mirror: A small white and vanilla creature wearing a funny looking hat, who spoke to her in a sweet and playful tone...

-“Pardonne moi, fine gentleman, do you happen to know young lady Ulrike? I've come here on behalf of my superiors to state a humble request: Could she please spare me some delicious candy? Chocolate would be great, if possible!”

She had seen a creature like this one previously, a teal colored one, but this one looked far more cuter than the other... Even its gait and mannerisms were far more adorable, like a vulnerable yet highly smart baby kitten.

Arrowvale Theater(Ulrike's Room)

Yes, this was it. This was perfect. Ulrike stared in the mirror, reveling in the look of her costume and occasionally recited some of her lines to herself. She did this to fully immerse herself in her character. At times it seemed like she convinced herself that she was that person. A dashing, pirate king that feared no man, only had room in his heart for the sea and of course treasure.

Perhaps it was a bit too in character her first reaction to the intruder was to quickly turn and point her plastic cutlass him. The movement was over exaggerated, and made to entertain rather than be effective. However what awaited her was not a murderous wastrel, but a small ferret like creature.

At that moment anyone else might have had a thousand questions raised her head. But only one word came to Ulrike's mind, 'Incubator'. She remembered the other one, and its tempting promises of power. Something told her to smack the thing as she could with that cutlass, plastic or not, but its joke to her and managed to make her smile, she decided to keep it going for a bit "I know not of this Ulrike. I am Captain Stede Bonnet!" her delivery was incredibly hammy, though she actually looked proud of it.

Arrowvale High's Theater (Ulrike)

Taken by surprise due to Ulrike's sudden move, the Incubator fell on its back and started to talk in a substantially more nervous way...

-“W-what?! B-Bu-but the boss told me she was supposed to be here... Or did I messed up my teleportation again?! It's certainly possible...”

The creature stood back on its feet, before exclaiming with a tint of frustration on its voice:

-“Oh, hamburgers!...”, the creature said with the same kind of intonation one would use while uttering an expletive, “They're gonna yell me again... And they even said there would be candy here... But if there's no Ulrike, then there's no candy...”

The creature stood silent for a couple of seconds, looking genuinely mortified due to its perceived blunder, before turning its sad looking eyes back to the girl and asking:

-“...Are you 100% sure you don't know miss Ulrike?”

[Placeholder Highschool Name]'s Ice Rink (Amity)

The tryouts for [Placeholder Highschool Name]'s hockey team had just finished, and Amity couldn't be more satisfied with the results: Not a single shot missed; each and every single one of them scored a point. The Incubator didn't cheat her after all, because so far it seemed like her wish was working even better than she anticipated.

Her impressive performance definitely caught the eye of all the other candidates, the official team, the coach, and pretty much everyone else which happened to witness such an unusual occurrence. The first test was far too easy, but what Amity didn't know, was that a far stranger... “test” was heading on her way...

The name of this “test” was Evelyn Raynor, the team's captain... A rather unusual captain, as Amity had never seen one like her before, because her appearance resembled more that of a chess-team captain: Of petite complexion, completely non-threatening at all, (specially with that cute face of her), wearing glasses outside of the rink, well kept hair brown hair trimmed short for low maintenance, and a pair of green eyes completely devoid of the “blood-lust” so characteristic on a serious player. The only think that made her look slightly like a hockey player, was a missing front-tooth that she lost during a previous game. In short: She didn't look like a captain at all, and her physical condition was definitely lower than the average... And yet, she managed to compensate her shortcomings by being a highly technical player and a good strategist, as well as a highly motivated leader... An unorthodox captain, but a good one none the less.

And now, Evelyn was approaching Amity, along with other two members of the team, in order to share some words with her... Something that other people really dreaded, because she also was a rather talkative person.

-“This is a slightly extra official, but it seems like the coach was really impressed with you... As a matter of fact, I'm really impressed too!”, she said while making a poor effort to contain her sheer excitement, “Normally, it takes at least one semester before a rookie can join the team, but I think he might be able to skip the bureaucracy and allow you to play on our next game. Even if there are difficulties, I'm willing to advocate for you, and so will my sisters-in-arms, right girls?”

She stopped for a moment in order to allow the other two players to express their stance...

-“...Whatever you say boss... You've got my supp...”

Said the Esther before falling asleep while standing on her spot... From what Amity had heard, this somewhat lanky and scruffy girl was rather drowsy 90% of the time, even during school hours... So it was kinda disturbing to see her moving and reacting so fast whenever she was on the rink... Almost like there were two completely different people living on the same body...

-“...Sure... If that's what you think is right, my friend...”

Said Christine, in a slightly reluctant and bitter tone, as she crossed her arms in front of her chest. She was a rather imposing looking girl, almost like a football linebacker... She would make for an excellent striker under different circumstances, but right now, she was [The Team]'s goalkeeper. Supposedly, she was really good at it, but because Amity managed to score every single shot against her during the previous practice, she couldn't tell for sure if that was the case. Because of that, she seemed to have a certain animosity against the rookie, and she didn't even bother to make eye-contact with her so far...

-“You know, with an ace your caliber on the team, maybe we could stand a chance against The Wyverns.”, Evelyn exclaimed with great energy, before her voice turned slightly more somber, “Last season, during quarter finals they annihilated us completely... A genuine massacre, I can tell you that for a fact.”, she said as she shuddered because of the nasty memories, before returning to her cheerful attitude, “But this time we have Chris to defend our goal-post, and a possible trump-card, too! Revenge will be ours this time!”

She said before laughing in a rather hammy and somewhat comical manner, as she laid her fists on her hips, emulating that classic “overconfident-superhero-pose”... Yet another sign this captain might just be an undercover nerd, after all. However, her celebration was cut short by a dry remark of the big girl.

-“Don't get you hopes so high, Eve... If I couldn't stop even a single shot of this rookie, that could only mean my defense is not good enough.”

Looking back at her friend, as if her comment didn't make a dent on her enthusiasm, Evelyn said...

-“Aw, come on! Don't be so hard on yourself, my friend.”, before giving her an affectionate pat on her left shoulder, “I know you're a great goalkeeper; you're our Iron-Wall after all... And if Amity managed to pierce that wall, that could only mean nothing will stop her shots!”

With her sour attitude still in full swing, Chris replied back...

-“...Yeah, whatever... I'll believe that once I see her in a real game... If she even manages to join the team...”

...She said as directed a rather unpleasant glare towards Amity.

Seika

This wasn't good, the little thing was stronger than it appeared and had a long range weapon. She didn't mind shooting her bow for a while, but if that thing landed a hit Seika would have to recover from it which would take time or magic power. Getting in too close would be dangerous with it having a weapon, so she started running instead of walking, keeping a careful eye on the flailing weapon so that she could jump back if she needed. She conintued firing arrows as quickly as she could at the familiar.

Ulrike

Ulrike giggled girlishly, dropping her "boy" voice and took off her hat, as well as a fake mustache. She was by now curious as to what this little one had to say. "I'm right here, incubator. I suppose I could spare you something." Reaching over to a nearby table she grabbed an opened red and white striped bag of Crackerjacks(that is comercial caramel popcorn for anyone that might not know.) and handed him a few kernels. "So what is it you want today? Have you come to see our show?"

Arrowvale High's Theater (Ulrike)

Looking genuinely surprised after Ulrike dropped her character and part of the disguise, the Incubator started to talk in a far more animated tone...

-“Wow! How did you do that? How did you do that? I didn't know humans could do that! First time I see I think you're a boy, and then BAM! This is why I tell the boss that humans are cool!”

Then, after the girl handed it some snacks, the creature started poking them, as if it was a kitten playing with an unknown toy.

-“What are these? I've never had these ones before... Are they yummy? Are they yummy? I want to try them!”

The creature said before munching them in a way that resembled how squirrels eat their food. It would have made for good-viral video material, if the Incubators didn't happen to be invisible to cameras as far as Ulrike knew. Having finished the treat, the creature spoke again after Ulrike inquired about the reason behind its visit...

-“These are really good! I like them, I definitely do! Humans make excellent snacks! Best in the universe, I say!”, but as Ulrike's question sank in, the creature tried to focus back on its mission, “Oh, right! My mission... Well, it has to do with the Contract thing they keep talking about.”

The creature took a brief pause, as it adjusted its voice to convey its annoyance.

-“It's always the same with them... Contract this, contract that, contracts for everyone... And then they go like:”, it was there when the creature's voice acquired a mocking tone, as if it was trying to emulate the speech pattern and accent of one its comrades, “Hey Raih-Meeh! Go there, make the contract with the girl Raih-Meeh! She has potential Raih-Meeh! Tell her she'll have candy, and rainbows, and ponies, and cute boys, and whatever girls like Raih-Meeh!”, before returning to its normal, but still annoyed tone, “Come on! They can't be serious. If Q-Brick already tried to convince you, and failed, there's no way I could change your mind...”

However, before it could continue its tirade, a knock was heard on the room's door, as the timid voice of a fellow thespian came from the other side of it...

-“E-Excuse me... Ms. Acker? C-could I... Could I talk with you for a moment?”

Noticing the other visitor, the creature exclaimed...

-“Oh snap! I gotta hide!”

Before desperately sliding under a pile of clothes like a scared puppy trying to avoid danger.

Near the storage facility (Seika)

Even though its counterattack managed to repel the hunter for the time being, the creature was using too much energy right now, and it would be a matter of time before one of Seika's arrows managed to put it down for good. However, it was then when an unexpected variable appeared on the battlefield: A sudden distortion on the terrain under Seika's feet that she didn't notice because she was focusing on the goat monster.

Because this unexpected terrain deformity and the speed she was using to evade the Familar's attack, Seika tripped and fell to the ground, giving the goat a chance to strike her with its electric whip, which dispelled after making contact with the Puella Magi.

The pain she experienced was intense, but because of the creature's injuries and lack of energy, the attack didn't inflict a damage as serious as she was expecting. As she tried to regain her ground, the goat started to concentrate its energy again to form another electric whip. It was then when she noticed yet another anomaly: A strange form moving under the floor and walls that surrounded her, like a living bulge which twisted the terrain around it. It was clear now: A second Familiar had just joined the fight!

Ulrike

She couldn't help but smile as the incubator rambled on about contracts. Of course she had not intention of entering one. As he talked she momentarily looked down at her Soul Ward, which for some reason she kept around. She just couldn't bring herself to throw it away.

A knock at the door broke her out of her contemplation, and sent Raih-Meeh scampering under some clothes. She briefly wondered if the creature forgot that others couldn't see it, but decided now wasn't the time to remind it. Answering the door came first. "Come in!" she yelled so that she could be heard from the other side.

Arrowvale High's Theater (Ulrike)

Having been granted permission to enter the room, the person behind the door now appeared before Ulrike. Her name was Margaret Lione, though everyone around here just called her Maggie. She was a recent addition to the theater-club, and because of that, Ulrike haven't had the chance to talk to her too much ever since... Specially because of how reserved and shy she was outside the stage.

Which was rather ironic, considering that she basically was her co-star during this play, as she was playing the governor's daughter role. It turns out that despite being such a timid girl, whenever she was on the stage, Maggie could become almost anyone she wanted. Her audition for the main female lead of the story impressed everyone who saw it; it was quite splendid to see this shrinking violet transforming into a boisterous heroine with a sharp tongue and an indomitable attitude, who exuded confidence and style on every single scene she was in.

And now, seeing her with her outfit on for the first time was also quite impressive... Almost as dramatic as Ulrike's own transformation. The timid girl with the frumpy clothes now looked like a proper lady with her exquisite dress and all the make-up and accessories used to exalt her natural beauty. Indeed, it was somewhat intriguing to see someone as attractive as her hiding her good qualities almost all the time...

As she entered the room, Maggie closed the door behind her... And tried her best in order to tell the words she wanted to say... She was so nervous at the moment, that she couldn't even lift her sight in order to look at Ulrike...

-“T-Thanks Ms. Acker... I... I don't know how to say this, but I... I...”, the girl took a brief pause, as she felt her voice was about to break... But drawing from what little courage she had right now, she cut right to her point, “...I don't think I'll be able to play this role... I'm sorry, I have failed everyone once again.”

Seika

"Ahhh! Damnit!: Pain shot through Seika as the thing struck her while another presence made itself known and tripped her up. Seika tried to recover as quickly as she could and quickly looked around her, but all she could see was distorted terrain. A second familiar, and this one different from the other one, as unlikely as it was for there to be two witches close by or for a witch to have two types of familiars with drastically different powers. Seika bent her knees, and shot herself in the air towards the one she was already trying to down, taking careful aim to down it this time with one arrow. "You need to go down with this one!"

"Might as well, it's not like that other Puella Magi will suddenly switch homes in this city." Julia nodded, as she steered her motorbike towards a side of the road, braking along the way. She let a drawn out sigh. "Never going to let us some leisure time, aren't they?" She added. "Be careful out there. Whistle if you need aid." Julia added, as she finally stopped the bike, indicating Mariya that she could now stop should she wish to.

Mariya

"Maybe she will, hm grandmother?" Whether the spirit Mariya was actually addressing was that of her grandmother's or not would be a question never given proper answer or even consideration, as Mariya was already cheerfully slipping into and out of cogent understanding of her surroundings. "Well a job's a job, right Miss Crow?" Mariya smoothly slung herself off her position on the motorbike, long legs perhaps a bit clumsy with a maneuver designed for someone with more average proportions, but she managed with only minimal jostling of her ride's back. "The air out here is nice. It's a crisp night. Will do! You've got something to do while I'm investigating, right? I wouldn't want you to be bored."

She was already well on her way before any answer could be posed to that question, which to be fair had been genuinely asked as far as tone was concerned. Mariya casually let her senses expand to all horizons, sniffing (not literally) out her quarry in the way no normal human could.
