Well, in any event, the best part was Lucifer's jealousy.

Sorry, "Lucy".

I really liked this episode, it was just great. I wonder what happened to the auctioneer...

It's good Maze is keeping a feather, but what can she do with it? Can't get the wings back now.

We don't know exactly how it works. My first thought was that she could use that single feather to re-kindle the divine fire God gave him, sort of a From a Single Cell thing. The other option is that it's just a tiny bit of divine power that will be good for one single use.

That's sort of the case in the comics.

After Lucifer gets literally burnt to a crisp by a sentient Tarot deck (it's a long story) and gets resucitated by a half angel/half-human 12 year old, he's left in a depowered state and has to go and retrieve two feathers that remain from his wings (which stayed crispy I assume) that his power and such were infused into by the Japanese dieties that took his wings in the first place. I think they may have been dove feathers that were added to the rest of his wings though.

So, this series features a lot of music that makes reference to god or the devil either in the lyrics or titles. I wonder if they'll ever make use of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZjZoJFTOoc (skip to 1:08)

And Amendadiel took a hit out on Lucifer. Huh, he's becoming more like his comics counterpart. I might like this Amanedial better by virtue of him having more personality and dimension. In the comics he was only around to pester and fight Lucifer for disobeying God.

Lucifer is such an Hollywood Atheist and I'm not sure that even makes sense. In general the recent episode shows how juvinile the shows attitude towards religion and religious figures is. Grating to watch.

The case of Dawson Casting for the youth this episode was painfully bad too, especially with the picked cliché clothing. Overall you get the feeling that the show has no subtlety or trust in its viewer, feeling the need to hammer everything home and as flat as possible.

It doesn't, because Lucifer isn't an atheist. He believes in God. Hell, he knows for a fact that God exists. He is just super pissed at God.

Yes he does believe in God, he simply does not believe in God being as good as believers think he is.

It would be rather silly for the devil to not believe in god. He just does not think god is as benevolent as believers think he is.

I really hope that the series' endgame will not be to convince Lucy that God was right to troll him. The producer name worries me.

Yes, I'm aware that the devil knows that god exists. Rather, I was commenting on how he's written with most of the traits of said trope. Such a trite and boring way to depict the father of lies.

[up] Agreed, let us really hope this isn't going there.

The main trait of that trope, however, is that they are doing all those things because they don't believe in God. Since Lucifer does believe in God, however, that means the trope doesn't really fit him at all.

Actually it's a bit more complex than that. In fact most standard Hollywood Atheist aren't ones who simply don't believe, rather they are ones who deny god. It's the whole "They used to believe, then got screwed over by existence and decided that god's a dick and thus refuse to acknowledge him/her/it"-shtick and that fits the Luci of this show to a T, just with the reality adjustment of, you know, knowledge that god exists.

This is usually a prelude to them being shown that there's reason to believe so they can come around and return to the fold development, which I hope we'll avoid here.

Lucifer doesn't refuse to acknowledge God's existence. He refuses to acknowledge God's benevolence.

We're most likely going to ram are faces straight into conversion mode on this one. It's a Fox show, and they're not known for upholding atheism.

There's no conversion to be had though. He's friggin' Lucifer. He's like a celestial House. If you redeem him, you lose the entire premise of the show.

...I don't understand. There is no part of this show that is in any way about "upholding atheism." Hell, the entire premise of the show is that the main character is the literal Devil and thus God exists. I mean, that God exists is part of the show's premise.

So why would it ever take an atheist standpoint?

Eagal Since: Apr, 2012

Per the Hollywood Atheist trappings previously discussed, balderdash though they may be.
