...
I'm guessing no one remembered there was a new episode today (and I almost forgot and had to catch a later airing myself).
Haley proves herself the biggest asshole in asshole town, and Alex is forced to wipe her memory of Kara's identity as Supergirl to protect her.
One Strip! One Strip!Gotta say, I did not see Alex's mindwipe coming. I thought that when the showrunners in an article said they were gonna have Alex make an unexpected choice, it would be Alex quitting the DEO which made me roll my eyes a bit because, that's not that unexpected, why are they making a big deal out of it? But mindwiping? Okay, that was really goddamn unexpected. I guess this means Alex no longer knows Kara is an alien too? Damn. Poor Kara. This is gonna be angsty and I'm loving it.

Trust you? The only person I can trust is myself.Mindwipes? Seriously? Did we learn nothing from Identity Crisis?
This episode was seriously gut-wrenching and I did not see that ending coming!

Sign on for this After The End Fantasy RP.First look at Jon Cryer as Lex Luthor. I've got to say, he looks pretty good. Now I just wonder if he can act the part.
Not at all similar to Identity Crisis. For one thing, Alex chose to have the mindwipe herself.
I'm still a bit disappointed that Lex tried to have Lena killed back in Season 2.
I thought it would have been neat to have a conflict where Lex genuinely cared for Lena, so Lena's reaction to him being back would be a bit more complicated than "brother she used to love is now a monster".
Maybe they thought that would be too similar to the Lillian plotline.
I still think I'd have preferred for them to have the characters the other way around in terms of motivations to Lena. Maybe I just like complicated sibling relationships?
"But if that happened, Melia might actually be happy. We can't have that." - Handsome RobMaybe they should have made video for Alex to watch to explain everything if she figures it out on her own.
Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult.Yeah, but we got the advantage of knowing the tropes involved, they don't.
You lost! When the alien was coming would have been a good time for all the DEO agents to call in sick.
Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult. So I missed this due to a combination of being out of the house most of the day, then watching the Royal Rumble when I got back (so I missed both airings).
What happened?
One Strip! One Strip!the logical consequence of having your memory of a very important facet of your life erased, for starters.
They better not be replacing Alex with Dreamgirl.
Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult.I don't think they are, they just gave Alex a pretty heavy storyline. I think Alex will eventually need to remember her connection to Supergirl and realize she didn't like the person she was without it, so will quit the DEO. And without Alex or J'onn around to make the DEO good, Haley will turn it into a more morally gray/outright villainous organization.
I think having the DEO around has been too much of a crutch for Supergirl and it's time to replace it — probably with J'onn's detective agency, which would be nice. Supergirl does her own thing while Alex and J'onn work together to help aliens and such.

Who else immidiately recognized Nia's father as Justin Claybourne from Arrow?

Hayley is all "I Did What I Had to Do, only torture and slavery can keep America great," and of course being saved by Supergirl didn't change her mind. I'm not sure if Alex's memories will be easy to restore or not when the time comes; we were given an example of partitioned memories with Brainy, but they didn't say anything about partitioning her memories, just wiping them. And if they're truly wiped, there's no obvious way to restore them. On the other hand, they did mention that Alex was still in danger because Hayley was still on the warpath, so maybe that implies they could be restored, just not right now? I dunno.
Maeve's "not a real woman" comment hit like a punch to the gut, and I'm not even trans. I seriously feel bad for Dreamgirl's actress just having to hear that.
Yeah, that was difficult to hear, but I think it was nicely balanced out by her mother telling her, "It was your destiny to be my daughter."
I finally got to watch this episode via On Demand yesterday.
Yeah, that comment from Nia's sister was brutal.
I also feel sorry for both the aliens who were assaulted, and for that girl who took the drugs to avenge her brother, because it obviously got really confusing with her not being able to control herself and them just seeing another juiced up human seemingly attacking them.
One Strip! One Strip! It doesn't speak highly of Alex that she needed Kara in her life to not be bigoted towards all aliens.
Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult. To be fair, Alex has always been a pretty big jerk towards anybody not close to her.

One Strip! One Strip!I'm still annoyed she didn't get called out that one time she went into the alien bar and slammed a guy into a table for information.
There's been a tiny bit of stuff related to her brutality before. But I'd love for the show to explore the issue of DEO agents seeing aliens as a threat first and as people second.
It's a shame really Maggie is gone, I wasn't a huge fan of her character after the opening arcs she had with Alex, but she'd be really well placed to offer an alternative.
Since its a bit hard for the DEO as a secret organisation to change that about them.
"But if that happened, Melia might actually be happy. We can't have that." - Handsome RobShe did it twice. The first time, the guy didn't know anything (unsurprising, since Alex assaulted a random guy in a bar). The second time, the guy gave her the information in exchange for Hamilton tickets, so assaulting him was completely unnecessary.
And Alex isn't just brutal towards aliens. She's perfectly willing to assault humans, too.
- She shoved Winn against a wall and threatened to kill him. (Then smacked him when he did give her information.)
- She beat up a helpless CADMUS prisoner who was physically incapable of giving her information.
- She punched out that guy who kidnapped her even though he was already arrested and helpless. note
Alex has been a poster girl for police brutality for a long time. Her being excessively violent and unable to separate her personal life from her job are long-term character flaws. It would have been nice to see her get some character development away from those traits, but since the show usually ignores or excuses Alex's flaws, it's unlikely to happen. (Having her memory erased is a handy excuse to continue to avoid that character development.)
Putting her in charge of the DEO was a major mistake on J'onn's part.
I guess that is the reason they introduced Haley - because she makes Alex look reasonable in comparison.
