Daird, I'm sorry because now that I have seen the Signups I never responded when you proposed an origin for your character's ability to see the supernatural. However, I still think your character shouldn't have it and would also ask you to edit your post. Blatantly calling onto the hidden nature of another character so casually in front of everyone while denouncing them worthy or treason will throw the scene into way too much ruckus.
Red Savant, please edit your post accordingly as well.
But isn't that the point of a RP? To let the players act as they choose, and react accordingly? Sure, the guy being able to blatantly see the supernatural and calling Red Savant's character out on it may be a no-go from here on, but I would think the best route to go would be to just let what happened stay there, wrap the scene up as best we can, and move on.
Back in my first RP, I made the mistake of putting far too much control in the general direction of the RP and the player's choices. A GM should still exert some control, but they also shouldn't force the players to alter a scene just because it isn't going as they wanted it to. In my experience, that's often part of the fun. Just my two cents.

To a certain extend yes, however I also am responsible to try and avoid things which are too troublesome. I've seen these kinds of reveals before and they hardly ever lead somewhere good. Plus, it's never fun as a player to have some sort of hidden origin and then instantly having it revealed before a crowd on the first opportunity that arises.
What could happen from here? Touka is revealed to be a youkai, everyone in the room must suddenly be exposed to the very tangible existence of youkai or those who may want to hide that must now scramble to hide what is happening. Furthermore, it happened way too quickly, right in the middle of the character's first chance to interact, get to know each other and have discussions. Now the whole nature of the meeting chances as it becomes confrontational, as it is not only the reveal of a youkai wolf among humans but also there was the sudden allegation that Touka is traitor that this guard is threatening plus the implication of dishonor on her whole clan before Ainori even gets the chance to decide how she wishes to react to the challenge of Touka.
Now, I could certainly allow a dramatic scene and for characters to try to steer things into another tone, make big reveals and the like. However, I'm much more inclined to do so when I get a sense they know where they are going with it, the full gravity of the situation and that it doesn't put into disarray the fun of the other character, none of the criteria which I think this situation meets.
It's not that big a deal and I will not blame daird for it as I believe they were trying to show the loyalty of their character by that challenge? Still, I must step in to avoid this turning into a big mess unwittingly that we can get bogged down in for a long while.
Yeah, I'm more than willing to edit my reaction if the whole thing would logically break down from here, which I get the feeling it would.
Honestly, if daird removes the references to Touka's heritage and I do the same, I think that'd be fine. Jun might get a bit of a talking-to from Ainori for speaking out of line to a guest, but everybody would be able to play it off.

It's been fun.![]()
I sort of see your point. Thinking about it though, not revealing the existence of youkai to the world at large is another thing you probably should have mentioned when starting this RP. If we don't know we're not supposed to do it, then what's to stop someone from doing it? (For example, I was going to have Mikoto/Kurumaru turn from a cat into a human in front of anybody, and the only thing that's stopping me from doing it now is knowing that you don't want people to do that sort of thing just yet.) These are the sorts of things you want your players to know.
It is on the first post of the Signup on the part that speaks of the Youkai. People can spend their whole life without encountering Youkai, and the big ones lie in hiding. The closer you go into human civilization the more in hiding the Youkai are.
Any human, from a peasant to a clan lord can believe that the Youkai are just myth or things which are not unexplainable and not be considered a fool. To most they believe they exist, but more as energies and intangible presences which most people will not encounter in normal life. Takeshi, actually, is one of those. Despite being of the Mitsumine bloodline he cannot see the supernatural and even though he is a now a spiritual man he sees them as a distant thing or invisible Gods and spirits looking over men. Most of his household is the same. He believes his nieces when they speak of looking at the supernatural, but thinks them blessed with something rare and special.
Ok, let me put it this way. If we're doing a politics RP in the modern era and you reveal that you are a mutant or vampire in the middle of a shopping mall wouldn't that have great repercussions? It's as much as a game changer for our party as it would be for the people in that situation. If there's a blatant show of the supernatural among Ainori's retinue besides what is expected that will have a great impact both politically and into how the common people look at her. Ainori and the mayor players in the house may be alright with it, but some people will be afraid. Some people may call exorcists and others to deal with the inhuman presence. Some may want to capture a true youkai. It's kind of a big deal. There is more leeway as this is not an age ruled by science and there are no cameras and the like, but the reaction of a crowd who is suddenly shown something that puts their whole world upside down with stuff they didn't believe was possible will be chaotic at the least.
Plus that. Speak of the supernatural without proof and the sort and you may be taken for a joke, mad or a liar. Transform into a cat demon before everyone and you'll have people turn to panic, try to kill you or drive you away, or call professionals to deal with you.

Again, I already knew all of that, or at least I did when you brought up Daird's character unknowingly revealing the existence of youkai to the public. My point is, there was nothing explicitly saying, 'Don't reveal the existence of youkai to the public, or at least not this early on,' or anything like that. Believe me, players will do all sorts of things you'd think would be idiotic or crazy unless you explicitly tell them not to do it. You didn't tell us not to do it, so he did it, even if a bit unwittingly.

In that case, why all the fuss? If he isn't going to be taken seriously, why bother having him retract his post? Just have Red Savant edit his/hers.

And that's why I took the chance to say it now that it happened, because if I said in the first post that youkai are rare, you need a disguise and that people don't normally see them, then I trust that most players will realize its a bad idea to break a masquerade in yours firsts posts so casually just because.
Since someone revealed that, or it didn't occur to them because of a misunderstanding I'm telling them now that it isn't something you do so casually and to edit their post.
Sgt Pendulum, thanks for the attempt to defuse the situation IC, however, I'll just request Theodore to please ignore the last three posts and just answer Touka on what she initially said. Will do an OCC IC post to tell people to do likewise.
Did the best I could but oh well, thanks anyway.
That dish on a ring pun was kinda got into waste though, I thought it was kinda smart :<

http://www.last.fm/user/sgtpendulum Yo, check out what I'm listening, it'll be heat, brah :^)Just an FYI; when Ainori's done reading Toka's letter, I plan on having Mikoto drop a letter next to Ainori, though I'll make sure to bring it to her attention as well. As for Mikoto got that letter, she'd brought it with her to the village in a more humanoid form before shifting to her cat form; because of that, she can make it appear right in her mouth if she wants. (Which she will.) Same goes with her various ninja supplies, such as kunai, blinding powder, grapple hooks, etc.

Oh. Well, we'll see. I'm trying to figure out a way to properly introduce Mikoto sometime soon without blowing her cover. I could just have her transform into some other form in a closet or some such place, but she wouldn't necessarily be able to to introduce herself to the heiress as 'Nekomata-Kunoichi Mikoto' in that situation. Whereas on the other hand, a letter could do the job in a much more discreet fashion without having to wait until everyone's left the party.

By the way, Daird, there is no bread in medieval Japan. Bread's only introduced in Japan in the 1900s.
