Hestu is actually over 100 years old. He mentions that "It's been 100 years since anyone has been able to see me!" (It's kind of strange that he specifies 100 years but doesn't imply that it was Link.)
And I do consider Hestu a probable choice for a playable character, knowing how much Nintendo loves the Fighting Clown trope.
Robbie and Purah might also be playable in the guarantied Escort Mission of Link to the Shrine of Resurrection in the end-game.

Not just Fighting Clown, but Dance Battler too! Oh God, he'll probably attack with his golden poop, won't he?
To answer the earlier question, I'm okay with this game focusing just on Breath of the Wild, but I hope we get another crossover later down the line, since some fan favorite characters like Saria and Groose never got to join the fight. (I'd say Nabooru too, but Urbosa seems to be much more popular.)
...now I'm thinking of Rauru in Hyrule Warriors 2, and how he'd transform into Kaepora Gaebora like King Daphnes transforms into the King of Red Lions.

I bet the last mission is going to be Zelda going alone to Hyrule Castle, and maybe a Calamity Ganon boss battle.
The powerful play goes on, and you may contribute a verse.I'd really like to see Link or one of the Sheikah with an Ancient Bladesaw moveset, or perhaps a general Ancient Weapons kit that uses all the weapons from that kit (but mostly the Bladesaw). It would also be pretty cool to see the mini-guardian get upgraded to a Guardian Scout IV with the three laser weapons.
Basically, I want to see a bunch of blue laser blades, pls Koei-Tecmo?
To reply to a few questions and comments in the last couple pages:
Since the game is supposed to be canon to Breath of the Wild, I fully expect it to focus strictly on canonical characters, at least to begin with. I could see other franchise favorites turning up in DLC, but the core game would have to focus on that specific time period.
We might very well see Hestu in the game. He's definitely old enough for that — I'm not even certain that koroks even age. That and the game is going to have to be broad about what characters it includes if it will indeed focus on only canonical inclusions (and Purah and Robbie might very well feature for that reason). I guess he'd either focus on achieving special effects with his music or just walloping enemies with his maracas. Or both.
Regarding how to represent everything going to hell, one possibility would be represent Link's final stand as a survive mission against an endless horde of guardians.
Isn't it more accurate to say that Kokiri are transformed Korok? Didn't they only look like that to make Link feel more comfortable?
You are not alone. If they don't want to end the story on a bittersweet note, one thing they could do is use the last few chapters as quick retelling of BOTW's main action. If they did a post-timeskip scenario for each of the Divine Beasts and one final one that abstracts the final act of BOTW to take place within the castle, they could get to a happy ending with just five chapters.

Midna et al. would be easy DLC money. I would be surprised if we didn't get at least half the OG Hyrule Warriors roster back via DLC, with or without redone movesets. I imagine the core game would be primarily BOTW-related characters, though.
My base roster prediction (not wishlist):
IIRC, OG Hyrule Warriors launched with roughly a dozen characters and had the 3 OC character bosses added to the playable roster as free, early DLC. I don't know if they'll go the same route here, but this feels like a good size for the base game.
