I think they're fun to use regardless. Sometimes you get all the prizes from a map square but still need to A-rank it, and it's fun to bust out Tetra or Skull Kid for that.

As for the EXP thing, I tried to complete all the maps one by one but I'm starting to feel like that's unfeasible. I got all A-ranks in the original map except for four or five squares (total) in the upper right and left corners. I'm also missing about five Skulltulas. Thanks for the advice, at any rate.

There's two new maps, two extra Giant Bosses, the surprisingly involved (if slow-to-start) My Fairy stuff, and two-element weapons in the later three DLC maps.

HOWEVER, I can't say you're missing a tremendous amount if you just get everything onto the Wii U version.

The only Legends-exclusive things I really, really like are the Wind Waker maps, and I don't think it's worth it to buy a whole other game just for that.

Oh, and I also like that the Helmaroc King is a boss. He looks like fun. I don't think Phantom Ganon is well-suited to be a giant boss, though. He's not giant. I think he should've been a playable character instead, but Wind Waker representation is already pretty robust.

Phantom Ganon is a lot larger in Legends than he was in Wind Waker, for the record.

He stands out for being a two-stage boss like Ganon himself, too.

Better Adventure maps + portable makes it perfectly worthwhile for me. I was holding out for a Switch version, but with FE Musou already announced I doubt Hyrule Warriors 2 is happening until 2019 at the earliest.

Though having it be paced properly is a good thing, in my book.

No Empires-Xtreme Legends insanity like the two most mainline Musous.

One big thing that Legends also has over WiiU is the ability to control more than one character on a lot of missions, which has saved my ass or just generally been a great anti-frustration feature countless times.

Also the New 3DS doesn't have that much of a problem with loading enemy hoardes, and any problems it does have can be solved with liberal My Fairy nukage.

[up][up][up] Fair enough, but I can never focus on playing a video game unless I'm in my nice quiet house, and if I'm going to do that, I might as well play it on a big screen, in glorious HD.

What's great is that my girlfriend has a 3DS but no Wii U, so whenever there's one of those "Buy both to get extra content!" promotions, we register together and share the rewards.

I'm sure they'll re-release HW for the Switch with all its DLC and Legends content soon after FEW. Then after that we can wait for HW2 after a few years.

All of legends content should have been made an Xtreme Legends expansion pack for the Wii U version like what has been done for every DW game and most recently Dynasty Warriors 8 Xtreme Legends and it's ports being package as 'Dynasty Warriors 8 Xtreme Legends Complete'.

Hyrule Warriors is next to unplayable on the 3DS and an even poorer port than the old psp port of Warriors Orochi let alone some of the good vita ports.

It probably should've been designated a New 3DS exclusive, given the pretty considerable performance issues it has on the basic model.

Challenge: if you could add two characters from all the games already represented in Hyrule Warriors (and Legends) to a hypothetical Hyrule Warriors II, who would they be? (Keep in mind they wouldn't have to be the only newcomers.) Here are my choices...

From Ocarina of Time, Saria and Nabooru.

From Majora's Mask, Happy Mask Salesman and Deku Princess.

From The Wind Waker, Makar and Beedle.

From Twilight Princess, Yeto and Hero's Shade.

From Skyward Sword, Groose and Batreaux.

I haven't played Link's Awakening (well, I did once, but only a little and too long ago) or A Link Between Worlds, so those are all the ones I've got. I did recently find out about Oren, though, and I think she'd be pretty dope. Gotta love that old-school Zora design.

Two from each, eh?

OOT: Saria (with Deku Spear imported from Lana), Twinrova (with Dual Wands)
MM: Odolwa (with Jungle Sword), Majora (with Whips of Wrath)
WW: Makar (with Wind God's Violin), Orca (with Fishing Spear)
TP: Ashei (with Sabre), Yeto (with Frozen Leaf?)
SS: Groose (with Groosenator Armor), LD-002S Scervo (with Lightning Sword)

LA: DethI (with Nightmare Forms)... and I dunno. Tarin?
PH: Linebeck (with... something?), Oshus (with Ocean King's Staff)
ST: Chancellor Cole (with Demon Magic), Byrne (with Grappling Gauntlet)
LBW: Hilda (with Lorulean Scepter), Irene (with Broomstick)

CD-i: King Harkinian (with Dinner Blaster), Gwonam (with Carpet)

What I want to see is them get rid of the generic Goron for the Bazaar and replace him with Malo, the hero we deserve. Him or Salvatore.

Anyway, of the ones not already listed:

  • Kafei with Masks from MM (dash attack with Bunny, AOE with Blast, etc.)
  • Shad with Paper Master powers from TP (was a little bit disappointed that Lana's book didn't really fill that role)
  • Ledd with Mogma Mitts from SS
  • Jolene with Scimitars from PH (if Twinrova got in over Nabooru, or if Nabooru's gameplay was more Iron Knuckle than Gerudo)
  • Maybe Crazy Tracy or Richard from LA, former using magic potions, the latter either being Yet Another Swordman or transforming into a frog+snake and confusing the heck out of people who don't know about his origin game.

Hrm... Well, I'll note that we have one major problem with adding new characters from Link's Awakening - we already have most of the named ones. There's Tarin (Marin's father), Crazy Tracy (just a shopkeeper), Richard (who's just a swordsman), Madame MeowMeow (who would be a good choice, but her main feature is owning Chain Chomps, and Link already covers that, unless she worked like a pet class), Ulrira (the hint system for the game), and Nakura (a ghost who haunts Link at one point... okay, I could see cool ways to do that).

I guess you could do Nightmare, with his gimmick being morphing into other characters for combo parts. That could be pretty cool.

Beyond that...

Ocarina: Young Zelda (make her a magic user primarily) and Saria (give her an improved version of the Deku Spear set and take it from Lana). Majora's Mask: Majora (agreed on the whips) and the Happy Mask Salesman (powers based on various masks from the game).

Beyond that... not sure if I have any solid recommendations, to be fair.

Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.

Depends on the person.

Also, If you have a 3DS, Legends actually suffers from less slowdowns than the Wii U version.

What you should have done is gotten the game on Wii U and downloaded all the Legends characters from the eShop. They're pretty affordable. I've heard that Legends is a good game in its own right, but to me, the massive graphical downgrade, the difficulty loading large hordes of enemies, and the fact that you have to unlock weapons the Wii U version gives you basically for free makes it an inferior port.

On the other hand, if you went with Legends, you basically get the Master Quest, Twilight, and Termina Adventure Maps for free + there's never a need to level up any higher than Lv. 99 if you want to Legends's DLC Maps compared to the Wii U version.

Gondo should replace the generic Goron in the bazaar. The bazaar music is from Skyward Sword, after all.

And while I'm eager to see Odolwa in the sequel, he should be a giant boss (maybe Gohma's replacement, since he's vulnerable to arrows), not a playable character. Him or Goht, but preferably him.

Also, quick question: what's the point of that bar Medli has that fills up immediately when she uses any strong attack? Is it used for some Legends-exclusive feature? I haven't figured out what it's for, or how to use/deplete it.

EDIT: Until there actually is a character called "Majora," I don't think any incarnation of the final boss from Majora's Mask should be playable (though I admit that's partly because I don't find Majora's Incarnation and/or Wrath all that compelling as a villain). The big quadrupedal monster from the manga could be a neat giant boss, but it's incredibly unlikely Nintendo would willingly make anything from the manga canon.

Then again, Hyrule Warriors is explicitly not canon, so maybe!

Medli's meter let's you do an aerial attack that can extend your aerial combo up to three times (if the meter is full). That attack is done by pressing the dodge button while in the air.

Okay, guys, can anyone help me A-rank square A1 on the adventure map? It's the "Kill 1000 enemies in 10 minutes" one. I can't even manage it with my level-99 Link.

(Also, should I use the Sky Fairy to get that Water-type advantage? Because I have a feeling it's Schmuck Bait. The Fairy is a massive target and there's no way I'll be able to keep my damage low enough for an A-rank.)

[up] The best advice I can give on that is to ignore the latter-spawning character officers and The Imprisoned and just deal with them getting a boost to their attack and health: You want to kill the mooks since any increase in KO count takes you one step further to clearing the mission.

The Fairy is the only real way to clear that reliably, unfortunately. She can rack up KO's on the regular mooks pretty quickly but you'll have to stay the hell away from the commanders and the Lardass Squad.

I was afraid I'd have to use the damn Fairy. All right, thanks for the tip. Do you still need to clear it in under seven minutes for the A-rank, or are they more lenient given the extreme conditions? No, don't say anything—I already know the answer to that question.

With the Great Fairy, time isn't really a huge issue. You should be able to hit the 7 minute mark pretty easily because she's that good at crowd control.

The real trouble is the damage counter.
