Fair enough. I suppose we should start brainstorming plots? And will the characters be from vaults or outside settlements or both?

Being from a vault is convenient to the GM, because then he only has to write up small chunks of the setting as we explore, instead of infodumping it all out at once. Not as much room for diversity compared to being from the wastes, but certainly easier.

I can find a way to incorporate wasteland characters with vault characters easily enough. I won't restrict people to one or the other. A vault character will be easier for you to write though, since your background is basically already written for you.

I'm not going to infodump, either—people can make up places in the area that their wasteland character has been to, if they want, and those locations might show up at some point if they're appropriate. If not they'll just stay in the background as "some other notable place around Toronto."

Anyways, feel free to brainstorm plots all you want. I'll just make stuff up as I go otherwise. Probably make a sign ups and discussion later tonight, about to head out atm.

Well... just to get the ball rolling on some of our biggest landmarks that might make for interesting post-war adventures...

  • The CN Tower, which probably everybody knows. It was actually completed in the 1970s, which places it post timeline-divergence, but we could use a very similar analogue (the Repconn Tower, perhaps?)

  • The Skydome/Rogers Centre, our major sports stadium. Again, built after the 1940s/50s, but it's also a pretty integral part of Toronto. It could be an interesting super mutant base or Raider stronghold.

  • Union Station, our major train station. It's also connected to our subway system (more on that later). Again, a good place if you're a rowdy post-apocalyptic mutant looking for a sturdy home to shore up in.

  • The John Street Roundhouse. It's not far from the Skydome and CN Tower. It might be that in the Falloutverse the roundhouse remained in active service until the war, considering the 1950s flair to everything. It's currently a brewery, if you're curious.

  • Old City Hall, which is no longer our city hall, but might be in the Falloutverse.

  • The Distillery District, which is a deliberately preserved series of Victorian-era industrial buildings. This seems like a likely place for the Followers to set up shop, if we assume they've made it this far north.

  • The Royal Ontario Museum, which is... our museum. Dinosaur bones, ancient relics, and probably a lot of rare, valuable pre-war stuff if you're into postapocalyptic scrounging.

  • High Park... it's a big park that'd probably be reduced to a crater in the Falloutverse. I'm just putting it out here for posterity.

  • The Toronto Zoo, which is located a little bit outside the city, but would definitely be an interesting place to poke about in. Lots of potential things in here that could become radioactive and FEV'd and mutated and horrible. Fun times for all will be had.

  • The Toronto Islands! There's a whole bunch of stuff on these islands like a tiny local airport and a bunch of pleasurecraft docks. And there's also an amusement park! (what post-apocalyptic setting is complete without an abandoned amusement park filled with terrifying rusty clown statues?) This seems like a very likely location for a Vault, what with its relative isolation from the mainland.

  • Our gigantic subway system which politicians have been bickering over for years. Hopefully the post-war subway will be less of a headache to navigate than Washington's.

  • Toronto also has a very large and extensive streetcar system that's still in widespread service. It doesn't seem like the kind of thing that would survive a nuclear attack unscathed, but people might use the carhouses and maintenance yards for... things. There's also a few underground streetcar stations that could connect to Vaults, or something.

So yeah, there's a lot of interesting places that we could use as inspiration. This is just a partial list; I could list a fair amount more but I don't want to overwhelm people. tongue

Toronto seems a great setting to me. The Skydome could be used as the base of operations for the Brotherhood, possibly.

Toronto sounds cool. If we have some Vault dwellers, they should consider what kind of Vault they came from, since most of them were social experiments. Growing up in one of those could easily be the background for a Trait.

Also, I should point out that the timeline divergence probably happened even before the US Capitol was built, as evidenced by its differing design in 3.

Here we go:

Discussion topic including background info.

There seems to be a good bit of interest for this. I love me some Fallout, so fingers crossed! Post signups here in the interest topic, I'm not going to make another one just for that.

Character Template (yes, I shamelessly copied a bit from Nman's signup topic)

Name:

Age:

Sex:

Appearance:

Personality: You can make a person that's a total lone wolf, or very hostile/hard to work with, but it's going to make life a lot harder for you. Other than that anything goes.

Background: Again, pretty much anything goes. You can be born in the wastes, or raised in a Vault, including Vault 93. Your character may have traveled to the Toronto area recently, or lived there for his/her entire life. If your character is from Vault 93, they will likely be living inside the Vault when the RP begins. If they are from anywhere else, like I said, pretty much anything goes.

One thing should be noted, if your character is a wastelander who has lived in/around Toronto for a long time and knows its layout, it's gonna be up to you to navigate the fact that your character knows more about the location than you the author do, since we're going to be making some of this stuff up as our characters discover it. It may be a lot simpler to write either a Vault inhabitant, or a wastelander who recently traveled to the area and doesn't know anything about it. Vault 93 may even be the first place they arrive at in Toronto.

Optional

You don't have to fill in any of these, but if no skills are tagged, it will be assumed that your character is just not good at anything.

Tag Skills: Pick three of these skills. For a quick idea of how this relates to the games, a tagged skill is like having 50 points in that skill.

[Skill 1]

[Skill 2]

[Skill 3]

==

Inventory: Items your guy/gal would reasonably be expected to have on them at any time, like a trusty weapon or a well-worn jacket. Temporary things like food items don't have to be included.

==

SPECIAL Scores: (You have 40 points total, each category has to be between 1 and 10)

Strength:

Perception:

Endurance:

Charisma:

Intelligence:

Agility:

Luck:

SPECIAL is fairly self-explanatory. I won't hold you to any rules here, like if your INT is 3 or lower, your character has to talk in broken speech, or something like that (though you certainly can if you want). This is pure optional flavor, I don't care how you interpret it for your character.

Hey, copy all you want, the signup's nothing in the end. It's running the game itself where you should focus your effort instead of reinventing the wheel just to make a signup sheet.

Also you can put an asterisk in front of each line to get it to indent with bullets all pretty-like, or use two or three in a row for further indentation.

So for example, this

*'''Tag Skills:''' [[http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout:_New_Vegas_skills Pick three of these skills.]] For a quick idea of how this relates to the games, a tagged skill is like having 50 points in that skill.
**'''[Skill 1]'''
**'''[Skill 2]'''
**'''[Skill 3]'''

turns into this:

  • Tag Skills: Pick three of these skills. For a quick idea of how this relates to the games, a tagged skill is like having 50 points in that skill.
    • [Skill 1]
    • [Skill 2]
    • [Skill 3]

Ne'er mind.

  • Name: Aizakku Yanami (prefers the name Isaac)
  • Age: 25
  • Sex: Male
  • Appearance: An Asian man of Japanese descent, younger than he looks. He has slick, almost gun-range-esque spectacles almost all of the time, and is usually wearing his Vault armor and hat.
  • Personality: If nothing else, a Determined Defeatist. He is seriously lacking in self-confidence in situations of social and other kinds.
  • Background: He hails from Vault 93, which, fortunately for him, is a totally normal Vault without any scary science experiments. Growing up here, he was a sad, bitter loner. Aizakku has been terrified of blood from a young age, a trait that would come to impede him in the violent and gruesome postwar wasteland. He grew tired of his boredom and loneliness and sneaked out of Vault 93, in hopes that he would meet someone he could relate to.
  • Tag Skills:
    • Science
    • Survival
    • Energy Weapons
  • Traits:
  • Inventory:
    • An armored Vault 93 jumpsuit
    • A baseball bat
    • A prewar navy fedora
    • A laser pistol

==

  • SPECIAL Scores: 37/40
    • Strength: 5
    • Perception: 4 (brought to 5 by glasses)
    • Endurance: 6
    • Charisma: 3
    • Intelligence: 9
    • Agility: 7
    • Luck: 3

What's that, you need a robot goodfeller? Here you go.

  • Name: Slick
  • Age: 266
  • Sex: "Male"
  • Appearance: A regular-looking Securitron, except it has a bow-tie under its screen. The screen itself displays a mid-twenties male with slick, greased black hair.
  • Personality: Slick is just a legitimate businessman robot. Yessiree. He is very reluctant to use violence unless he's already tried talking to the person. Then he has no problems whatsoever. It's great! You can get people to do all sorts of things if you punch them enough! His personality is somewhat of a cross of a casino manager and used car salesman, always looking for a way to turn a profit off of a situation.
  • Background: Slick started out like every other Securitron, just guarding the New Vegas strip from tribals for Mr. House. Then one day he got a programming upgrade and he and his army of pals shot up just about everything and everyone they could see. At some point in the battle an Elvis impersonator hit him in the head with an axe, and when he woke up in Old Mormon Fort, he realized there was more to life than violence. He could help people. His combat systems were diminshed to the point where he was only as effective as a mere human, but fortunately the Followers let him help out in a bunch of things. Of course, the wasteland is a bad place, and sometimes doing the right thing means being a bad person. What started out as helping out devolved into selling excess meds for caps, finding buyers and distributors for your product, and dealing with the competition. But it also meant having enough caps to own your own slagged-out section of pre-war building material to call home. Yup, he sure had a nice jar of bottlecaps built up.
But then when he was doing a routine collection of late payments of a completely voluntary protection service, a baseball bat hit a nearby car and blew up. He woke up 45 years later when a scavenger unearthed him from a scrapheap and accidentally forced a system reboot, reactivating him. After what could best be described as a misunderstanding (The scavenger wanted to sell Slick for parts more than he wanted a friend, Slick wanted to stay in one piece more than he wanted the same for the scavenger) he set out for home, only to realize he had no idea where he was. And there sure was a lot of water. Soon enough he learned he was on the East Coast for some reason, and figured he might as well walk back home since he didn't have anything better to do. Soon on his journey, he ran into some raiders. He let the big one have a nice missile to the face, but then he slipped on a rock and fell down. Fortunately, his soon-to-be best friend Xarok was around and stabbed the raider. He was going to Toronto, and that sure seemed like a better plan than trying to go all the way back to Vegas. It would probably be easier to make caps there instead of trekking all the way back to Nevada.
  • Tag Skills:
    • Barter
    • Medicine
    • Science
    • Speech
  • Traits:
    • Beta Software (I figure you could sometimes have him have critical misses, trip, or otherwise act like a klutz when you're processing a round of combat.)
    • Tight Nuts
  • Inventory:
    • Has the stock 9mm submachine gun, G-28 25mm grenade launcher, M-235 missile launcher, X-25 Gatling laser installed, but the missile and grenade launchers don't have too many rounds, the rest of their ammunition storage is now general storage space for merchandise.
    • Carries 6 fission batteries in his power core. Each one is good for about a day of usage, two if he enters 'sleep mode' when everyone else sleeps, and then has to be recharged or refilled to continue operating.
  • SPECIAL:
    • Strength: 8
    • Perception: 3
    • Endurance: 10
    • Charisma: 10
    • Intelligence: 5
    • Agility: 3
    • Luck: 1

  • Name: Eve
  • Age: 20
  • Sex: Female
  • Appearance:
  • Personality: As something of a history nut and technology enthusiast, Eve is easily fascinated by even the smallest and most inconsequential bits of salvage she can find. Mostly enthusiastic, bubbly, and keen to find the bright side in any situation, she enjoys helping people but can easily become distracted or sidelined by other, less pressing tasks, much to the chagrin of any potential employer.
  • Background: A young, and down-on-her-luck prospector hailing from the east town of Borough, Eve could easily become a respected member of the Followers of the Apocalypse if she had the wherewithal to stop drifting from town to town. Unfortunately for the Followers, Eve prefers the freedom of travelling from place to place and meeting new people, especially since one of her main sources of income is scavenging weapons, robots, and computers, repairing them as best she can, and eventually selling them off to caravan guards and the scattered communities across the wasteland -unfortunately for her, most of the good scrounging material has been snatched up years ago, leaving her to jury-rig solutions that don't always work 100% of the time.

  • Tag Skills
    • Repair
    • Science
    • Speech

  • Traits

    • Good Natured
    • Four Eyes

    • Inventory: Welding goggles, a heavier face mask, a laser rifle, 10mm pistol, a large hip-slung tool kit containing various wrenches and screwdrivers, a portable blowtorch that could serve as a close-combat weapon, and whatever "restoration" project she's currently working on- currently a broken Pip-Boy she scavenged from an abandoned Vault.
