[up][up]Rize is pretty much a bitch that ended up gaining a lot of enemies, that was already established in one of the translated Chapters of what she was doing before she met Kaneki. I am not sure if any the raws hint at whom killed her but I really doubt it would be Tsukiyma.

As for Kaneki becoming a half-ghoul, I don't think it nessacarily changed his genes. Kaneki was implanted with Rize's Kagune which probably healed up his body (he lost a kidney) and likely rewired his system to support it. As far as I know on differences between ghouls and humans is that ghouls organs work differently (they have a extra organ as well, aka the Kagune), ghouls heal very fast, have superhuman strength and agility, and of course they eat humans(or the hunger will literally drive them insane).

Ghouls have feelings too like humans, which makes the situation all the more muddy due to some ghouls can't even hunt humans (they can't take the guilt of killing a person, these ghouls likely don't survive long or go to Anteneiku for help) while others either steel off there emotions to hunt (so they can take the guilt and survive) and end up becoming monsters. Most of the ghouls have lost someone important in there lives to humans (Usually the CCG) which also is used as a justification to kill them.

... you are aware of how easy it is for the human body to reject donor organs from the same species, right? This scenario is like saying you could perform a successful heart transplant on a human using a silverback gorilla's heart, and then saying that the surgery gave the guy superhuman ape strength.

It doesn't work that way.

I've got new mythological machinery, and very handsome supernatural scenery. Goodfae: a mafia web serial

[up]Yes I am aware of what the human body can do when a foreign organ or tissue is inserted to it, however.... Doctor Kanou whom operated on Kaneki and purposely turned him into a half-eyed ghoul was doing this as a experiment, he narrowed the chance of it succeeding to near 0%. I can assume that he thought Kaneki was going to die anyway and took his chances, that and he is implied to have ghoul envy and probably did it to test if he could ever become a ghoul himself.

Half-eyed Ghouls are indeed thought to be impossible and are very hard to understand. Half-eyed ghouls are also stronger then normal ghouls (How exactly they know that seems to be due to a rumour about the first half-ghoul) and Kaneki was not the first half-ghoul, One-eye was. One-eye has been implied to have been result of ghoul/human procreation and he has specifically been mentioned to of been a impossibility considering a female ghoul's body would of ate him as a embryo, or a female human's body would of starved him of nutrients as an embryo. Both how Kaneki and One-eye came to be point to the fact that half-ghouls are incredibly rare and are near impossible to make due to the biology. Judging by other ghoul's (and I would assume human's will also be when they find out) reactions it's hard to comprehend how they would even exist. I am not disagreeing with you as the manga hasn't revealed enough about One-eye for me to completely sure how exactly half-ghouls work internally.

I was going to ask how could a surgeon transplant an organ that is not from a human without realising it but the spoiler had the answer. So I guess the rest of the surgical team where in on the experiment? Because if not, someone should had realized that there was something weird in the operation.

[up] Well, there have been mistakes before like people amputating the wrong limb. Something like sticking in an extra organ seems possible, if a bit unlikely. But yeah, they were probably in on it.

I would assume ghouls basically have a zombi virus rewiring their metabolism. Probably from the Kagune.

At least Kaneki didn't end up with something like all their strengths and none of their weaknesses. [lol]

He does have a weakness (kind of), he can go insane with hunger like a actual ghoul would if he does not eat. He is obviously stronger then most ghouls though. Jason mentions that Kaneki also seems to have greater mental strength then most ghouls and humans though, which is why it took so long until he finally broke down.

[up][up] Doctor Kanou was definitely aware he was putting a ghoul organ in Kaneki I am not sure if his staff was in on it though, Chapter 99 suggests with lack of context that he has a guard or college of some sorts. 99 also shows us that Rize is somehow still alive and that the Doctor might be using more of her organs, Yomo apparently saves her though. I am surprised she is even alive considering she has no kagune anymore.

Rize was quite a bitch, but I dunno if it's BECAUSE she was a hot psycho bitch that I feel a tad...sad/dissappointed that she got 'killed' off so early. Seeing her act as Kaneki's Ghoul conscience is a somewhat adequate compromise.

Gourmet dude...I got yaoi-bait vibes from his behaviour.

Oh man. Tsukiyama's VA is awesome.

Ehh I'd say that was a pretty bad place to stop. It'll mean they'll have to open ep 6 with about 5 mins of Touka curb-stomping Tsukiyama before finishing the ep with about...half the Mother & Daughter arc?

I don't really think the spoiler's necessary, because it's obvious enough what's coming to Tsukiyama, but whatever.

Episode 5:

  • TRES BIEEEEENNN!! Who voices Tsukiyama. I've a feeling I heard him before.[awesome]
  • Hmph, so you do have a heart Nishio.
  • A healthy(and strong) kagune requires a healthy body. So ghouls really shouldn't eat anything except humans. But Touka will not abide by that. Because she's a good friend.smile
  • Eating the flesh of a hybrid, if only a little, causes an exponential growth in power. You're...gonna regret sampling only Kaneki's blood, connoisseur of good(cannibalistic) eats.evil grin

If I didn't know better, I'd say that Gourmet dude was jizzing his pants every time he sniffs that handkerchief.

I hate Gourmet dude. I hope he dies. I miss Rize. I actually wish she didn't 'die'.

Is this 1-cour or 2-cour? Considering the intro shows white-haired Kaneki, it will definitely happen with the series. How much rushing would they have to do to fit that part into a 1-cour compared to a 2-cour?

By the way, how DID Kaneki get away from the Gourmet Club?

I'm starting to get tired of scenes cutting away to Kaneki suddenly waking up somewhere.

Like in episode 2, when Touka and Kaneki were about to fight, then it cuts away to Kaneki waking up in Anteiku.

12 episodes.

Tsukiyama let him go after the whole restaurant thing. That's why he was back at the Anteiku. Because you know, somebody's greedy and wants Kaneki's flesh all to himself.

Gourmet dude is really an idiot then. He deserves whatever failure he will get in the future. He had his chance and he squandered it.

[up] He may be an idiot, but at least he's an amusing one. At times.

He tends to ham it up a lot. I'm looking forward to hearing his VA performing his "CHEWING! PLAIN FOOD! CHEWING! PLAIN FOOD!" line

I think that (manga events) how easily Tsukiyama got accepted into Kaneki's team was a bit of a cop-out though. Even if the manager trusted him enough to participate in the raid, he seems too much of a liability to keep around for long...he's still looking for a chance to eat Kaneki, for god's sake. Also, he's just a prick in general. A hilarious one, but still a prick.

Also the little conversation omake between Touka and Roma (at the end of chapter 92) was amusing. We totally need flashbacks/prequels of Touka-in-training.

I see that they are still hinting at Touka and Kaneki being more than friends with Chapter 91. Although I am curious about Rize's reaction to Kaneki will be later on. I am wondering why Kaneki kept Jason's mask though....

Are all kagune some sort of stabbing implement or are there some with more interesting functions?

[up] There are slashing ones, shooting ones, and bludgeoning ones. Oh, and there's a particularly unique one with its own mouth. That's all I can remember off the top of my head.

EDIT: Hurrah, looks like the gap between 92 and 99 has been filled? Tsukiyama is so fail. "Calmato. I must remain calmato. CALMAAAAAAAATOOOOOOOO!!!!!"

Identity crisis coupled with a monstrous transformation huh? It's reminiscent of Soul Sacrifice...

[up][up][up] I thought Touka and Kaneki were kinda pegged for the Official Couple since the beginning, though. Insofar as the author has any interest in exploring romance in this series, at least.

Also, damn the multiple plans and plots are getting confusing. Kanou, could you just skip the obligatory mysterious monologue and go straight to the explain-everything monologue?

Naki is bloody annoying, though. I sincerely hope he gets killed off here. And I see Akira has inherited a bit of her father's creepy side.

Edit: Oh, but seeing Akira's default deadpan expression on her grade school self was hilarious.

I am curious on whether we will be shown Suzouu's life with that ghoul whom kidnapped him to explain his crazyness, and whether he will die in this battle against the Twins (seems very likely unless one the other investigators finds him). This Centipede kakuja that Kaneki now has is...interesting to say in the least.

And yeah it would not surprise me if the author doesn't delve into Romance that much throughout the manga. I just find some of Touka and Kaneki's gestures and thoughts towards each other beyond just friends. The fact that Touka misses him so much and had a breakdown when he sent a gift to her makes me wonder....

Episode 6:

Hmm...so that's how they're doing it huh. That might cause problems; Quinques aren't made that quickly. I'm guessing the whole of episode 7 will be dedicated to wrapping up this arc? And perhaps Aogiri will make a short appearance toward the end. That'll leave 5 episodes for the Aogiri arc...hmm...
