So I just found out Harada's a pretty big fan of The Idolmaster. Guessing that explains Chloe.
Which makes her inclusion all the more annoying...
I wouldn't mind so much if the old roster wasn't getting trimmed down. But it is.

the color todayWhere did it say that old roster getting trimmed down?
Not sure if there's a better source than this, but:

To be a little pessimistic here, lets say they are shooting for the 36-38 range. 38, just for a cleaner comparison.
Not counting Panda, there are 40 characters in Tekken 6.
There are 3 newbies that we know about in 7 (possibly two more in the forms of Kazumi and the Arab fighter)
That already knocks off 5 Tekken 6 characters.

the color todayI think it would be neat/funny if they had a character like Chloe but made her an old lady. An old lady who still acts like a teenage pop idol. It would be so ridiculous that it would be awesome, Joke Character or not. Hell, make her black and you may end up with one of the most original fighting game characters.
Seriously though, it would be so refreshing if we actually got a black woman, and I don't mean But Not Too Black, I mean undeniably black. Closest I've seen in a mainstream fighting game was Vanessa in VF 4, and even then she had straight silver hair and her facial features were arguable. Either than or an old lady martial arts master. Like what Taki might have been in SCV if Namco didn't have an aversion to old women. Make her like Toph in Korra. Would it be too much to make her black too?
Sorry if I'm starting to sound like some kind of social justice warrior, but I honestly would like to see more diversity in character design, instead of the same things over and over. Take risks, try something new.
Thunder, Thunder, Thunder...I agree. Black women tend to get the short end of the stick in games. Purna, Ashley, Sheva, your bog standard mercenary in KOTOR, Cobra, Lisa and Christie are in one form or another (overly abrasive attitude, bad AI, ect) get a bit of hate. Even Elena, one of the best examples, is mostly ignored. Give us one that rocks.
Currently reading up My Rule Fu Is Stronger than YoursNo More Heroes' Shinobu was pretty well received, I think. Well enough that I didn't hear anything negative about the announcement that she'd be playable.
Sadly, bad game design made those two levels she was playable a painful slog, but it wasn't the character's fault by any means.
Is this just a rumor or real? Because if real I am going to say this might just be the stupidest thing in gaming I have heard in a long time.

Harada's a troll, so I doubt it.
Lucky Choloe looks like some tumblr fangirl in a fighting game.
I wouldn't say Elena gets ignored either, at least not anymore.
Some people are honestly saying that it's real, others aren't. Either they can't read sarcasm, or Harada really is telling the truth.
So I was looking around Tekken wiki, and I noticed that Lucky Chloe's alignment lists her as good. But that's not confirmed yet.
Wouldn't it be crazy if she turned out to be Cute and Psycho?
Harada confirmed that she's not Japanese but loves the culture (enough to adopt an accent so thick it hurts). Maybe she thinks she's an actual famous J-pop star and goes around dressed like one; maybe the delusion will get Played for Laughs by some of the other fighters ("she has a big secret" he says).
I can already see an amazingly twisted Idol Singer Deconstruction in the making (like Sayaka Maizono, except she can fight). For all the awkwardness of her design to be intentional would be hilarious.

And THAT is what it would take for me to like this character. Or something like it.

Just a guess, if Lucky Chloe is hated by the fans here's one idea Western fans can have instead.
Currently reading up My Rule Fu Is Stronger than YoursOnly if his introduction has him running to the arena to those fucking trumpets.
I dunno if Harada reads TV Tropes but can you imagine? A poll with Chloe as option one, Cena as option two. Fans will either clamor for which one to kill first or he'll get his girl in the game.
Currently reading up My Rule Fu Is Stronger than YoursLol so she's basically a huge weeaboo.
Chipp Zanuff did it better.
For fuck's sake.
It's not like Manly Mc Brass Balls and Kawaii Sugoi Desu Ne are the only things people want. There's something of an equilibrium that Tekken's usually been able to hit even with its cutesy characters, at least before Alisa hit the scene.
This trailer is 100% Chloe-free.

The fact that people dislike her so much makes me want to see her on American shores even more. She don't seem that bad, honestly.
Of course, my favorite character to play with has been, and always will be Gon.

When you wish upon a side of beef, soon will come an end to all your griefJun Kazama all the way with me. Devil puncher, Spirit Adviser, Sons Of Anarchy fan, don't matter. To me she is better than Nina, Anna, Michelle, Julia, Kunimitsu, Angel, Xiaou, Unknown, Christie, Miharu, Mokujin, Panda, Asuka , Lili, Alisa, Sophitia, Cassandra, Taki, Pyrriah, Taki, Natsu, Seung Mina, Ivy, Xianghua, Talim, Tira, Setsuka...you get the idea but several come close.
If they dropped Chloe for more Jun focus I'd buy a new computer to play it, cutting edge.
Currently reading up My Rule Fu Is Stronger than YoursSo here's a thing that happened.
It's not like Manly Mc Brass Balls and Kawaii Sugoi Desu Ne are the only things people want. There's something of an equilibrium that Tekken's usually been able to hit even with its cutesy characters, at least before Alisa hit the scene.
Exactly. I just want good character designs, and Chloe seems generic as all get out. Tekken is full of expies, but they always had a unique spin on them, and I just don't see that with Chloe at the moment. Plus, simply put, she doesn't look like a fighter. We've had wacky characters before, and we've had cutesy characters before, but barring maybe Lili, they all seem like capable fighters one way or the other.
Lucky Chloe looks like an idol cat-girl who apes her fighting moves from other members of the cast, and adds nothing to a roster where 4 of the 6 confirmed females (not including Chloe), are perpetually teenaged cutesy anime-trope girls who are tougher than they look. I think that the female cast has much more room to grow in directions other than that, yet it's done so only marginally since Lili's introduction. Since Lili joined the cast, we've gotten Zafina, Leo (whom some might include within Lili/Xiaoyu's troupe, but I still think she has some chance of being a serious character), and Katarina. We've also gotten Alisa, Eliza (who has a secret big breasted outfit, and some sort of ties to Lili's family), and Lucky Chloe. We also got a short manga◊ focused on Asuka and Lili, the former of whom has been dragged away from anything resembling the main plot of the game in order to be Lili's tsundere rival for three games straight. We also got a movie focused on Xiaoyu and Alisa infiltrating a high school. We also got a series of lengthy ending movies from Tekken Tag Tournament 2 that portray Xiaoyu and her friends (now including Alisa, who seems to have cut all ties to Lars and the main plot) giggling and having little friendship moments at an amusement park, complete with emotional piano bits. It's hard to say whether these are from a fighting game, or the end of a high-school anime. We also got softened, rounder female faces, with bigger eyes and less detail.
And now we're getting Lucky Chloe, and I just don't see the point. I'm getting tired of this direction.
the color todayOMG it's like DOA 5 in reverse.
If Harada is upset about the reaction to Chloe I'll put it this way.
Lucky Chloe, and to an extent some of the similar aspects in Tekken such as the ditto fighters and custom outfits and moves, fit better with fans wanting to mess around with the game, come up with the silliest things to put in. Personally I would have a few cool ideas for character designs, I might even look at uploading some of my custom characters. I think fans to a large extent like what they have and would like to see how they could be expanded and tweaked for the latest game. They are more invested in the Mishima storyline, Jun's return and how if any interaction there might be with her niece.
