To me it reads as someone decided to rightfully point out that people overthink things, as "Genocide" thing wasn't even implied through the finale. Fridge Horror is still a Fridge, since if you analyze hard enough 90% of media can have some unpleasant implication. Like Redwall's "All vermins are evil" theme (which is shown to be completely race based, all foxes are evil, all rats shown to be evil and ec.).
Yeah, here's the issue: it wasn't Fridge for me; the very moment she said she was going to destroy magic, I immediately thought "Won't that kill like half the characters dependant on it to survive?!" Heck, it's even confirmed that at least Glossaryk and the Magical High Council would die. From there it wasn't hard to figure a lot of people would die. It's way easier to worry about it than, say, think about all the people dying in a battle between mechas, or about the people whose lives were ruined by Star's Shenanigans. If they didn't want us to conclude Star was committing genocide, then maybe it wasn't such a good idea to dedicate some many plots and episodes about showing us all the sentient things connected to magic and make us attached to them.
But even if you ignore the whole genocide thing, there's still the fact that as far as I am concerned, Star's conclusion came out of nowhere. We've seen plenty of times that Mewmen were racist even without magic, so destroying magic solves the issue, how, exactly?
I think the final episode with the spells in the wand was supposed to indicate that they would be fine with dying as long as it stopped a greater threat. It just didn't do a particularly good job because it was focused on the Nameless Spell specifically and not the possibility of all magic being destroyed and most of the spells weren't even clued in.
It was NOT just the unicorns that died Glossyrick said he'd die and Heckapoo not only said that the high commission would die, we saw their destroyed bodies.
The fact that people would die we actively confirmed in the show.
Now, despite that, I actually do like the fact that Star wanted to give up something she loved to protect others. I actually kind of liked the ending. But those problems do exist.
I think there is also the general feeling that in a setting like this all sorts of things that don't make any sense in the real world are assumed to function because of magic. Like it is far less intuitive for whatever power allows something as absurd as Ponyhead to live as something separate from magic. It's also a general trope that when The Magic Goes Away fantastical creatures either become the kind of mundane creatures we see in our world today or die.
I started watching just recently and the ending of S01 E21 ( The Banagic Incident
) left me baffled and puzzled. Marco apologized and said he had underestimated Star. And Star is in a stage of catatonic rage. Like.... what? Why? Why the tranquile fury? What is there to be so deathly furious about? I don't get it. :/ Someone please explain?
I'm surprised that Moringmark is still drawing SVTFOE. Thought he would have found something new by now. Not that it's a bad thing, but I feel like he's the only person still making stuff for this show, as everyone else seems to have left for greener pastures. I mean seriously, after the finale, it felt like the Fandom mostly died.
The Good Place is another fandom that dropped off suddenly due to the dissatisfying ending.
It wasn't as bad, and they were kinda in a place where they couldn't possibly satisfy everyone, but it was still bad enough to have the effect.
Suddenly I'm... still rotating Fallen London in my mind even though I've stopped actively playing it.I believe most people like TGP ending. It was just so conclusive there wasn't room for fanstuff anymore
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing. It's kind of strange with Moring Mark because originally he was a gravity falls artist, then he moved to SVTFOE, and he's pretty much stayed there. I do feel like there aren't really shows to fill in star's place, as shows like the owl house are finding their footing right now but it is kind of strange.
Bide your time, and Hold out Hope — GANKUTSUOU Just because it's irrational, doesn't mean it's not real. The Good Place fandom generally loved the ending but there was no real way to continue from there. The subreddit, fanfics, and other fandom things are still going strong as far as I know, especially with creative projects.

The Protomen enhanced my life.

"Is power concentrated in the hands of a few a bad thing?
"... No. It's the power existing at all which is wrong."
