Glad to hear this update. Since it's in the cards, wondered at people's casting thoughts.
I know Vin Diesel and the Rock are the most typical fan casts for Shadow, but I was thinking as good/more realistic options Coby Bell or Michael Ealy.
I like Danny John-Jules for Mr. Nancy.
Bill Cobbs for Mr. Ibis.
Anna Friel for Laura.
Brian Cox for Mr. Wednesday.
Jason Strathan or Dexter Fletcher for Low Key. Not that he'd be cast, but I saw an interesting bit of fan art that used Tom Hiddleston but looking totally different than as Marvel's Loki- with his natural red hair and with the character's Glasgow Grin.
Not sure of others at the moment...
God, how excellent would The Rock be as Shadow?
Yes, I know Word of God sees Shadow as The Rock. But that aside, I think he's got so much charisma that I think he'd be good for the role. Plus it'd be nice seeing him take a slightly more "everyman" role.

Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.Yeah that's always been my choice. In a more plausible choice I kinda dig the Michael Ealy suggestion as well.
Shadow is too melancholy and/or emotionally subdued for the The Rock to play him, unfortunately.
Michael Ealy is probably a good choice, although I imagined Shadow as at least several inches taller than him.
Reading the news at the AV Club reminded me of something I had wondered about in adapting the book:
People call Shadow that even when it wouldn't really make sense to (i.e. the different prison personnel). It works in the book because I think we are to understand that it's some kind of magic/charm. However, it could really easily feel pretty narmy on screen.
I suspect most people just won't say his name.
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.I always figured that Shadow's mom was just kind of weird and actually named him Shadow.
According to the story "Monarch of the Glen", his real name is Baldur Moon. I think we do get the Moon part in the novel, since Laura is sometimes referred to as "Laura Moon", but I can't recall if anyone ever calls Shadow "Mr. Moon".

J. August Richards for Shadow
Trump delenda est@6: Platform shoes.
You fell victim to one of the classic blunders! Also in terms of the ethnicity issue, Bryan has been quoted as saying the cast is going to be mainly consisting of non-white actors:
Also now, we can cite Empire and we can cite The Walking Dead as being primarily non-white in their casting, and they’re the two biggest shows in the world right now, so that has to say something. We have to be moving forward with a representation that is accurate to the world.
There’s no excuse with American Gods. There’s absolutely no excuse to cast say, Mr Ibis and Mr Jacquel as…those should be African-origin actors in terms of their heritage."

Never thought about the ethnicity of the characters. I guess Wednesday and Czernobog for the white people. Shouldn't it be 3. Low Key Lyesmith?
You fell victim to one of the classic blunders! My only real knowledge of the series is that it's one of the only modern media depictions of Anansi. He at least should definitely be African.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Who would we want to play Nancy et al?
You fell victim to one of the classic blunders!Dunno. I always imagine Anansi as a young guy, a Chadwick Boseman type, but I think Gaiman has him as an older gentleman in the story.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain. It is so. Somewhere past 60 to my memory.
You fell victim to one of the classic blunders!Idris Elba as Anansi.
Fuck it, Idris Elba as Shadow. Idris Elba as everyone.
I would watch a show where every single character was played by Idris Elba.
Czernobog I could see as a black guy, though. If only because of the name.
TV Boy has to be white. Maaaaaaaaaybe Asian. Wednesday and Low-Key, obviously white. Along with Mad Sweeney and Hinzelmann. Mr. Wood and Mr. Stone I always envisioned as a Salt and Pepper pair.

Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.I picture Media as white. My memory is fuzzy but didn't she talk to Shadow via some old sitcom? Possibly I Love Lucy?
Idris Elba as every character though? Sounds novel.
You fell victim to one of the classic blunders!Would cut down on cast budget though, more for SFX
"You can reply to this Message!"I saw an image once of Amanda Palmer as Media and it looked excellent. They should do that.

Who would be your ideal fan-casting for Mr. Wednesday?
Ideally? Anthony Hopkins.
I posted some thoughts above. Brian Cox would be my preference for Wednesday.
Suggested Bill Cobbs for Ibis but he'd probably be better as Nancy (although my preference is Danny John-Jules).
Although I don't think any race was given for her, I imagined Laura as being white.
Because of Ibis' love of narrating his thoughts, I thought semi-jokingly Morgan Freeman; Appearance-wise, maybe Giancarlo Esposito?

Produced by Bryan Fuller (Hannibal & Pushing Daisies), Michael Green (Kings) and Gaiman himself, the show is apparently set to appear on Starz in the near future, a bit of a downgrade from HBO but still. Let's hope this one sticks.
