Not for nothing was the city worshipped as a capitalist utopia without wondering what those words would entail for the people living there.

The lack of democracy and universal suffrage weren't the only things that motivated the protests. There's a reason why a lot of anti-government unions showed up.

Credit for Remitonov on alternatehistory.com for clarification:

"Colonial-era laws are repressive for modern standards, hence a nice fig leaf for the HK government to silence opposition on Beijing's behalf in the belief that being written by the British somehow makes it less controversial than laws written by the SAR government, much less those imposed by China."

Kwong Wing Catering's been hit by the HKPF and the FEHD for supposedly violations of not mandating COVID-19 app check-ins.

KWC's known to support the protests for democratic reform.

More pro-democratic statues are being removed at CUHK and Lingnan University.

I wonder if there will be a mass exodus of Hong Kong people to other countires like Singapore or Taiwan if this keeps happening.

I think that a good number of the people who could afford to leave Hong Kong for greener pastures have already done so.

It's already happening, but they're moving to Britain, the US, and Canada.

HKPF officers are now targeting the Stand News for supposedly trying to publish seditious articles. They arrested current/ex-staff members. Denise Ho was taken into custody since she's a board member IIRC.

Edward Leung was released on good behavior early in the morning for being involved in the protests.

He's now forced to keep a low profile.

Finally a sort of... not that bad (relatively) news from Ominae in this thread. I find it sort of morbidly hilarious that this thread has pretty much became Ominae's "string of increasingly worse news from Hong Kong" corner.

I'm not as witty as I think I am. It's a scientifically-proven fact.

Worse thing I've seen lately is the LegCo interior added the CCP emblem.

Well aside from the sentencing of various people being arrested. Still morbid though, whether we like it or not.

Also, the scrubbing of Swire Bridge.

Yeah, considering this is CCP we're talking about, I'm sure you're going to return to the usual schedule at your next post. The only assurance I have is that Hong Kong isn't Xinjiang and thus, CCP won't go that far, but considering how drunk with power with CCP lately, even I'm not completely sure about that. It'll definitely become at least Deus Ex level of surveillance city, though. I have no doubt about that.

Also the strict COVID restrictions. I'll still keep an eye on the shadow government in exile.

Though I don't have personal ties with HK anymore, except my folks since they have bank accounts there.
