if you're getting into music production I'd recommend FL Studio (whether you want to make that investment legitimately or procure it via other means is entirely your decision). It's flexible and fairly easy to pick up.

I've experimented with vaporwave (and the related future funk) myself, though my main musical output has some of the same ethos too.

Anyone else really hate future funk? As in, I hate how that subgenre seemed to branched off from vaporwave and got a lot of fans leading to create what is essentially amvs of old film clips and eventually becoming indistinguishable from genres like Lo-fi or future bass?

It is a really petty point to make, but I have an irrational hatred towards future funk since it made some people think that what aesthetically "vaporwave" is only old anime clips and S P A C E D U P L E T T E R S and some aged film filters. I'm pretty ok with Simpson wave, but I get bothered when someone on youtube pairs a vaporwave song with a looped video of a modern anime.

Nah, I'm gonna agree that that's pretty irrational.

I don't hate Future Funk, but I kinda resent its fans for acting like it's this new thing when it's basically just the third wave of French Touch. Besides, non-FF vaporwave videos for a while were basically AMVs but with old Japanese commercials instead of anime clips.

Simpsonwave, however, can suck these nuts.

Simpsonwave isn't even a genre of music though.

also I'd argue that while the trend itself (which has mostly been dead for a while now by this point) didn't do much, "CRISIS" redeems the entire mini-genre. Legitimately affecting, great editing, and it uses a really good song as its base.

The simpsonwave videos as a whole, though, seemed to only reinforce the idea that vaporwave is just "lmao memes and irony" (an idea which I utterly despise).

I honestly don't "get" vaporwave no matter how often people explain it to me. I don't understand what makes the aesthetic much. 'Just reminds me of nightcore, with how vaporwave videos seem to either use random retro anime pics/gifs or Simpsons clips.

I like the genre even if I don't get it, though. It makes decent book reading music.

There's not really much to "get", no matter what bad thinkpieces on the genre tell you. It is what you make of it.

That being said, the editing in vaporwave can get a lot more involved than Nightcore.
