As I understand it, Hunger Hyperbole means "A character expresses how hungry they are by saying they'd be willing to eat either a ridiculously large amount of food and/or something they'd not normally find appetizing." How is that not a trope?
It has the same problems other Stock Phrase tropes have: It would simply be a list of characters saying they are hungry enough to eat X, which if I understand correctly is chairs.
One fix would be for X to actually appear(no matter how improbable it would be for that to happen), but since that would require changing the definition, name, and most of the examples, it would be better to cut then YKTTW a new trope.
If the specific words people use to express themselves don't count as tropes, then why do we have Added Alliterative Appeal, or Cluster F-Bomb, or Sesquipedalian Loquaciousness, or any dialogue tropes at all, for that matter?
Because none of these tropes are about specific words. Cluster F-Bomb is about profanity in general, Added Alliterative Appeal is about alliterating words and Sesquipedalian Loquaciousness is about an overy complicated/technical style.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanOkay, what about this example: in an episode of How I Met Your Mother, Robin is really hungry because she hasn't eaten for two days, so when someone tries to make her wait before getting a burger, she shouts, "I will eat your hand!"
That fulfills the trope, but the only words it shares with the stock phrase are "I" and "eat".
Ok, I want to take this time to bring up all the other tropes Cavecat has created, which most are in just as bad a shape. If nothing else, we need to go through the list and see which ones might need more crosswicking to promote better usage (consistent usage of 10 articles and around zero inbounds aren't healthy tropes. At all.)
I second that. Not to sound like I'm attacking Cave Cat, but they do have a tendency to... sorta brute force tropes through YKTTW. Not breaking any rules and they're excellent at adding peoples' examples, but aggressive bumping and ignoring criticism (as well as not making suggested changes) lead to... issues. I'm going to go see if I can find some problem ones.
By and large, a lot of them seem like they could be tropes but just aren't defined as such and are just "things that happen."
- And Your Reward is Edible: Just examples where someone gets food after doing a good deed.
- Beverage Spill: The entire trope is someone's beverage is spilled.

Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.Methinks other problem pages are better off in their own threads and problems with Cave Cat belong on Ask The Tropers.

Yes, let's use established procedures instead of making new ones.
Aaaand it appears Hunger Hyperbole has been cut. Guess that means this can be closed.
Crown Description:
There is some consensus that Hunger Hyperbole is not a trope and should be cut. Vote UP if you don't think this is a trope and should be cut. Vote DOWN if you think this is a trope and should be fixed in some other way.
