Only thing that comes to mind is that we ought to do so for all the other "Somewhere, a Xist Is Crying" pages, and then for Somewhere This Index Is Crying itself...
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanHere, we should probably go for Artistic License – Ornithology. Somewhere This Index Is Crying will prolly need its own discussion, though.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanAgreed, although two minor points:
- Artistic License – Paleontology is a sister trope, not a grandparent trope
- Indexes are supposed to be at the single-bullet level at all times.

Link to TRS threads in project mode here.Okey-dokey, then. Let's get started.
Worklist:
Make the new page (Artistic License – Ornithology), make the old one a redirect, and move the discussion.- Clean up the description. This one isn't as bad about being condescending and snide as the others, but it does have a fair chunk of irrelevant or too-specific stuff in it. (I'll take a whack at it later today , but if someone else wants to start before I get to it, I certainly won't object.)
- There are also some more specific tropes that should be listed here as "see also"s, I think. They need to be tracked down and added.
- Clean up the examples. Check for sniping and sneering and get rid of it. Move any examples that are of more specific trope we already have to that page, or if it's already there, take it off this one.
- change the wicks — there are only 51, so it's not a huge job, but they also need to checked to make sure they're on the Trivia page if they're for a work, not the main work page, and if they're already on the Trivia Page, they'll need to be moved to the correct position alphabetically.
-
Make the new Laconic.

Moved the only subpage and the indexes over. Also added a note on the discussion tab. The FAQ thread (with a thread link) and Renamed Tropes also need notifications.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThe " because it makes the story work better. " bugs me a bit because there are reasons other than that for inaccuracies, like simple not-knowing or nto-having-time/money-for-making-an-effort.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanWe went over that in the earlier discussions: Since 99.9% of the time, we don't know why the author is being inaccurate, we're using the basic assumption that they made the choice they did for some reason that seemed good to them at the time (which includes "not-having-time/money-for-making-an-effort"), rather than they just didn't know any better. Assuming the reason was ignorance was part of the source of the snideness and bitching with the old format.

"Anyone care to offer reasons we shouldn't?"
The old name is interesting and clever, and the new name is boring and dull.
Also, as noted two posts above, "Artistic License" is inaccurate because it categorizes all instances of inaccuracy as artistic license when we know that is not the case.
That said, apparently this decision was made long ago, so bring on the boring, dull name.

Laconic text aside, shall we flag this as Trivia?
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanYes. All Artistic License tropes should be trivia because it requires information not in the work.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.I am currently counting 5 votes in favour. As for the other Artistic License pages, methinks we would need a dedicated discussion for them (like the Trivia topic) - seems wrong to put it in a thread on a specific trope with a different naming scheme.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard Feynman

As this trope's grandparent trope is now Artistic License – Paleontology, it makes sense to move this trope to something like Artistic License – Ornithology, to keep in line with it's grandparent trope. This also keeps in line with the fact that all of the "Somewhere, An *topic specialist* is Crying" tropes are being moved to "Artistic License - *topic*", as well.
