Sonic the Hedgehog movie

I like that the films establish Sonic is on his own world and that the rings allow him to travel between that one, the human world, and a Mushroom Hill world.

Sonic 3 and Sonic Adventure make a lot more sense if each world is a Zone divided by magic floating rings.

I also liked the fact that Sonic is in a separate world from the human characters. The games were always so confusing about whether or not Sonic lives alongside human beings or if he's from another planet.

The games made it pretty clear, what with the games explicitly showing Sonic and humans together and all.

It's external media like X that made it separate (while refusing to explain Eggman).

The games always stayed quiet - one moment Sonic is in a part of the world where only Robotnik seems to be around, and then in Adventure suddenly there's a city and people everywhere, and it wasn't until years later they clarified that Sonic is from his own world. Then by Forces they're in a world of animal humanoids and no humans in sight.

I hate it when the games got so confusing about what world Sonic actually lives in. I rather prefer it that they just named Sonic's home planet Mobius and have some humans besides Eggman live on it to make things less confusing.

Ben Schwartz actually won the Hollywood Critics Association award for "Best Animated or VFX Performance" as our favorite blue blur!

Turned out so great, initial Sonics Roger Craig Smith and Ryan Drummond gave their congratulations!

It really is bewildering that this movie got such performances. It's a pre-COVID miracle.

Yeah! Everyone really gave it their all in this movie!

It was the last good theatrical movie of 2020.

Made even better because it had absolutely no business being that way. It was, on the surface, just another "animated character with live-action guy" movie, but the best part about it was that it subverted a ton of the beats that are normally done in those movies. Sonic is endearing instead of annoying, doesn't cause trouble, the human guy is not some jaded loser that needs a kick in the pants to be motivated or some uptight jerk that needs to mellow out...It subverts everything that's usually done in those sorts of movies and that's what really helped it. To say nothing of the redesign actually guaranteeing that the movie would be successful.

Not to mention Jim Carry doing a surprisingly and amazingly effective job of playing the bad guy. I still say he was like an evil Ace Ventura.

I was actually surprised at how well Jim Carrey was able to play Dr. Robotnik. He was able to make Dr. Robotnik both hilarious and menacing at the same time! It makes me wonder how he will play Dr. Robotnik in the sequel: will he be even crazier or more dangerous?

Considering how he was on the mushroom planet, being still highly intelligent but clearly off his rocker even more so than before...

Ironically, Ace would defend Sonic against Eggman.

That they used the Emerald Hill theme in the teaser puts a smile on my face. Sonic 2 was the first Sonic game I played, and the one I spent the most time with as a kid. First time a video game ever introduced me to the concept of an obtainable Super Mode.

The brains behind this really did an 180 too - think back to when they had Gangsta's Paradise in the first trailer.

I will said jim carry got to play a good eggman becaue is not such much diferent from previous role, in fact to a sense he is returing to his clasic jim carriness we see in liar liar and other movies that make him famous, with a somewhat black comedy and over the topness.

And Jim Carrey style humor strangely worked for Dr. Robotnik.

It does work for maniacal scientists.

According to an interview, he played Robotnik as a satire to those tech bro silicon valley types. Considering Robotnik is the type to want to show off his tech and genius, it really fits.
