Ben Schwartz (Parks and Recreation, DuckTales (2017)) will voice the title character in the movie.
Given his recent voice work, I'd say he's a fantastic choice, though it's disappointing that Roger Craig Smith wasn't called back.

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Anyone notice that all of the popular characters Ben Schwartz has voiced have blue as a color in their looks?

His canon height is 100cm.

Photos of Sonic's stand in actor driving a SUV in San Fran
So.... how is a three foot hedgehog tall enough to allow his legs to reach the pedals?
Also, why would Sonic be driving a car in this case? This isn't a racing tournament and I'm sure whatever the plot is, there should be sense of urgency that he runs to the problem.

Maybe he loses his powers at some point in the film.
like someone steals his sneakers so he can't go fast
New theme music also a boxActually, I remember the Archie comics saying Sonic's sneakers were friction resistant so that might work too.
It would make sense for Sonic to drive if there's a moment where Sonic loses his powers and the rings he's searching for helps him regain those powers.
Heck I wouldn't be surprised if the entire movie is about Sonic becoming fast again.

That moment where Schwartz is casually sipping coffee is already a meme in the Sonic fanbase.

"The devil's got all the good gear. What's God got? The Inspiral Carpets and nuns. Fuck that." - Liam GallagherLooks like the film is gonna have a campfire scene.
Per this unreliable yet interesting rumor, Dr. Eggman/Robotnik is getting completely redesigned, being a slim man wearing all-black. No goggles, no glasses, no mustache, and he has hair (the latter two was kinda a given).
Given that I haven't seen any images of Jim Carrey on set, and the fact that filming isn't set to wrap until September, I find this hard to believe.
UPDATE: Screenwriter Patrick Casey has denied the rumor.

"The devil's got all the good gear. What's God got? The Inspiral Carpets and nuns. Fuck that." - Liam GallagherOkay you know how back in 2010 during an interview about Sonic Colors, Takashi Iizuka confirmed that Modern Sonic actually takes place across two worlds - a world populated by anthropomorphic animals (Sonic's World) and a human only world - and that the characters are frequently hopping from one world to another between games.
And then in 2017 Ian Flynn revealed that the IDW comics would also be using the Two Worlds thing note , and that the games taking place across two worlds was actually established in the official Sonic Bible dating back to Sonic Adventure and that was why Sonic X used the concept.
Well given that it was confirmed that both Sega and Izuka have creative input into the movie, it shouldn't come as a surprise, but it looks like the film is gonna be using the Two Worlds thing as well...
"The story is kind of lot like E.T., there's a small town that comes to together to help the Sheriff (Tom Wachowski) save the alien from the bad guys, that are chasing after him. It's very heartwarming and I'll think it'll be a big hit."
He also mentions there will be an interior scene filmed at an Inn, and there will be a 'tearjerker moment'
Lots of fans seemed to have interpreted that as making Sonic an alien, and predictably are fuming over it.
Isn't any creature that's from another planet besides Earth considered an alien? Sonic has always been considered an alien, in Earth terms.

"The devil's got all the good gear. What's God got? The Inspiral Carpets and nuns. Fuck that." - Liam GallagherSome information regarding the Sonic movie when it was to be made by Sony, revealed from the film's former writer Van Robichaux:
- Jeff Fowler was attached to direct the movie as far back as when the project was still at Sony.
- The reason why Sony didn't produce movie was because of the 2014 hack and a lot of the new executives that were brought to oversee the project didn't like the direction the movie was taking.
- Sega and Van clashed over Dr. Robotnik's name. Van wanted him to be named Dr. Robotnik as it would be easier for American audiences to swallow and would be "more intimidating", but Sega wanted him to be named Eggman.
- Van clashed a lot with an unnamed Sony executive (most likely Amy Pascal)
And some info for the upcoming movie:
- Patrick Casey and Josh Miller, the writers of SONIC, wanted to find a way to have both the Robotnik name and the Eggman name in the movie. They struggled to find a way to have the "Eggman" name make sense, so there will be an in universe reason why he has that name.
- The movie will be nothing like the Smurfs or Alvin and the Chipmunks, according to Patrick.
I like when adapters try to give Eggman both names, though out of the two I do prefer Eggman, so I am glad that Sega insisted on it. I would also like it if Sega occasionally referenced Dr. Eggman's real name in the games.
I do writing, feel free to check out my stories here! https://numbugwritingblog.tumblr.com/post/686233243868102656/numbugs-shared-heroic-uniThe answer is to have two villains with the different names
Never played the games but watched the cartoons where the villain was called Dr.Robotnik,Eggman sounds funnier though
