If you cut Shadow in half, does he look like the biolizard on the inside?
I do think it's an issue that Shadow and Sonic don't really have any reason to interact with each other? They don't like each other and they only get into contact in the first place because they happen to look similar to each other.
I think an adaptation would do well to give the two of them a closer link.
Many years, I came to the realization that Sonic stories are episodic in nature, and have very minimal continuity with one another. You may get minor call backs but it's irrelevant.
That Sonic mural inspiring Shadow design is not Adventure 2 at all, so it wasn't Maewaka intention. He never even commented on why Shadow looks like Sonic. It's just a thing that happened.
There's subtext (and later plain text) that Gerald studied ancient knowledge which involved Chaos...which brings the question on how he got that knowledge. Did Knuckles' ancestor at the time gave it to him?
Nick complaining that Knuckles' Chaotix never bothered to explore Knuckles' background, I complain Iizuka decided to explore why Shadow was black rather than why he is a hedgehog to begin with.
To win, you need to adapt, and to adapt, you need to be able to laugh away all the restraints. Everything holding you back.Shadow looks like Sonic because they wanted to give the latter a new dark rival with a similar mindset and moveset.
They just probably didn't go over the details on why these two individuals look alike.
For the longest time, people assumed they were brothers lol.
I guess it makes sense; usually when you have two major characters who are as similar as Sonic and Shadow, its usually a plot point. Can't blame fans for thinking there's a connection between them.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.'Hedgehog' is just the most efficient shape for channeling
Speed Force Spiral Power Chaos Energy.

No the fuck he isn't. If you were around the fandom in the mid 2000's, the fandom was split between who enjoyed Shadow's presence and people who were just sick of him constantly getting focus over the older characters like Tails or Knuckles.
Even nowadays, you still have people hung up on that.
But the main comparison between Shadow and Silver is that they're both characters with a dark backstory and introduced as a new rival to Sonic, and both were manipulated by a higher power into carrying out their bidding.
The difference is in the details obviously, but Silver instantly gets top billing alongside the aforementioned Shadow. So a lot fans noted how Sega were trying to promote yet ANOTHER Hedgehog rival so soon after Shadow's introduction.

A lazy millennial who's good at what he does. The Chaotix are comic relief, so they don't inspire the same weaboo obsessed conversations that characters like Silver or Shadow.
And Blaze was kneecapped before she even got a chance to really be prominent. But it helps her gameplay is the least controversial since she actually plays like a Sonic character.
The Shadow game was around the time Shadow was cemented as a staple of the franchise. So like yea, he's not going anywhere.
And yea, Silver hasn't gotten anywhere near as much attention or love past 06. Its only the comics he really gets attention but its comics lol

A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.My experience with Silver is that whoever holds a twitter Avi with him, they a dark age Stan obsessed with him. A random whoever even said they weren't going to watch the movie because Silver isn't in there
I suspect Silver holds the teenage girls of the series.
It's a good thing Evans is sane.

Ah, you have some insight into the devs' mindset that I don't, then?
Also, suggesting they can't or won't just retcon clearly established lore on a whim is an uncharacteristic amount of faith from you.
