Hmmmm
Sonic 3: Eggman creates Shadow, but he eventually turns face and Eggman is imprisoned.
Sonic 4: Preventing Chaos from being unleashed, and Shadow struggles to integrate with the group until the climax when him and Sonic go Super face Chaos.
Would be pretty kino.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.Sonic 3 culminates in Shadow and Sonic teaming up to take down Biolizard. There's a plot point that Gerald Robotnik was experimenting with something to create a being of limitless power that they could control. The result of that experiment was... either Shadow or Biolizard, whichever's supposed to be the "Ultimate Life Form" in the games, that shit was so confusing. With the other being a work in progress.
But it's never quite made clear exactly where they got the material that they were trying to replicate. Maybe there's, like, one shot of a containment cell or something. But we never see what's in it. (Or we do but it seems to be empty from the limited perspective we're able to view it from?)
Anyways. Facility or space station or whatever is destroyed, Biolizard is slain, Shadow disappears inconclusively. Story's wrapped up but there's dangling conflict/tension hooks with Shadow and maybe Rouge, if she's in the film. Credits roll.
Post-credits scene shows the destroyed facility/space station. The containment cell is smashed open due to the place's destruction, and we see water trickle out of it. Suddenly, the water begins to rise. Cut to black.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Shadow was the Ultimate Life Form and the Biolizard the Flawed Prototype, for the record.
I once put together a plan/pilot for a Sonic tv show and for that I remember doing something similar - fusing Chaos and Shadow's plots together sequentially (so one right after the other, with Arc Welding). But the idea I had was that Eggman got the idea to pursue the Master Emerald / Chaos from Gerald Robotnik's notes, with Chaos being Gerald's first attempt to destroy the world before weaponizing the ARK. Essentially the arc was Eggman progressing with going through Gerald's ideas, not realizing until the end of Adventure 2 that these plans keep nearly destroying the planet on purpose.
Either way, the reason Chaos isn't much of a villain on his own is because the villain of Sonic Adventure is Eggman, with the Eggster taking up most of the actual villain contribution to the plot. Chaos is Dragon Ascendant. The story as written does need someone in Eggman's role if you're adapting the story 1 to 1. You could, however, replace him with - like - an ancient warrior Echidna who wants to continue Pachacamac's legacy or something.

'd hard, but it's "& Knuckles" you philistine.
So what do we know so far:
- Sonic 1 was good enough to get a sequel
- We got one directly before a lockdown and one almost directly after a lockdown
- Knuckles is being voiced by black f-cking Superman
- Carrey is back and onboard with the stache
- Tails and Sonic are having an epic bromance
- Tom is still around
- The Tornado hasn't transformed yet
Something that's confused me is why super speed seems to be hand in hand with magical electric auras now. Flash has it in his TV show and they really over-do it in the films. Sonic never had electricity but has it now.
I'm thankful the X Men movies just decided on crazy CGI whooooosh scenes with elaborate physics instead of just tacking on electricity. I don't think Sonic really needed it.

I really have to go back and give this movie credit for Sonic's characterization. This is the most fun and interesting portrayal of his personality in a long time. Lost World excluded, I'd say since Sonic Adventure 2.
I mean he goes from fun-loving Looney Toon in this scene to just that subtle, worried glance he gives when he sees Tom, his only friend, in peril. And I just adore that.
And I can totally see Sonic being a fan of Fast and the Furious
and I want this to be canon to the games now.

We even got a legit explanation for using the "quill energy" as the reason why Robotnik can fight Sonic. Heck, I guess I'll let the unnecessary magic electricity slide.
Damn this movie for being good. It took a worldwide pandemic but it was worth it.

We have a trope specifically about how super speed and lightning go hand in hand. It's not exactly a recent thing.
Though as pointed out it is new to associate Sonic with lightning, when he's always been more wind-themed, when he's had any elemental association at all. Fast as Lightning, yes, but more importantly, Free As The Wind. I feel Sonic wouldn't mind not having super speed so long as nobody could keep him from going where the wind and his whims took him.
Its mostly from Classic purists that I generally speak to. One of the main reasons they don't like Shadow is that, unlike Metal Sonic, Shadow just inexplicably looks like and possesses all of Sonic's abilities. The fanon explanation is that Gerald based Shadow off of the Super Sonic mural in Sonic 3, but its just that...fanon.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does. Its still fanon though. IT hasn't been confirmed or denied either way, the fandoms just decided to accept it.
Like Super Sonic hasn't had the Shadow quills since SA 2, 20 years ago.

A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.Ah, yes, "if something isn't explicitly written out in plain text it's just made up because what are implications and subtext in storytelling?"
How fair is it to call something 'inexplicable' when you can very easily draw a logical conclusion from the data available to you but simply refuse to?

....because they can literally just add a plot point that contradicts it later?
What kind of question is This? "What's stopping this theory that's only supported in the fandom other than the creators who run it"
They're called headcanons for a reason.

I guess you could switch the order of Shadow and Chaos. Do SA2 first and then SA1.
