[up]A dick move, but one with logic beyond lolevil. A False Flag Operation to assassinate a royal in order to start an apocalyptic war is a pretty huge deal. It's not a secret you want leaking, so it's best to ensure as few people know about it as possible.

[up]So at least the conspiracy is a relatively small subset of the Martians. It did seem like the main count did genuinely care about the Princess's wellbeing, since his concern for her was said in an internal monologue.

These are the words that shall come from my mouth. I shall be known for speaking them.

[up]It's either small, very high up, or both. Those are the best reasons to ensure this degree of secrecy. I mean, imagine if it got leaked that, say, the Joint Chiefs had assassinated the President in a false-flag op to justify an attack on Iran. Shit would go nuts.

Someone is right though that the conspiracy should've at least known about the contingency of the body-double; though they might reason after they achieve planetfall it simply wouldn't matter whether the Princess is dead or no, as long as the nature of the initial attack is kept secret.

[up]I guess it depends on how formal and planned that contingency was. Though it's entirely possible that the conspirators are presently hunting down the princess in order to ensure that she's really dead.

From what I understand, her switching with a body double was a very last minute thing. She seemed so hung ho about it, they might not have considered that she wouldn't go.

It kinda still is poor planning though.

Hmm... Can't really say that I care about anyone in the show yet. Too many characters at once, so each of them doesn't get much time. And the one guy that did get a lot of time just came down to lolevil for the most part.

On the other hand, maybe watching the first episode again will help. Watching it weekly with other shows and life in the way could mess things up a bit.

[up][up][up] All they need is an excuse to mobilize their flying castle into the earth & start the war. Considering how much this war has already escalated, stopping the Vers without terrans surrendering requires some kind of miracle. Even if the princess is alive, it's completely out of her control now.

Honestly, what did those assassins expect, when dealing with the guy who tries get the princess of his own empire killed for his own ambitions? He had literally no reason not to kill them to tie up lose ends.

And yeah, at this point any further attempts at princess life would only be determinal to the conspiracy. As long as the secret doesn't leak out, just the fact that "terrans" attempted to kill her is enough reason for war.

It's entirely plausible that the existence of the double was classified beyond the reach of whoever was behind the conspiracy. Likewise, it's reasonable that if the royal guard or secret service or whoever the equivalent is in this setting immediately suspected a conspiracy after the assassination attempt they would immediately button up and break contact with the rest of the martian forces for fear of other attempts at fratricide. However, all of that would just make it less plausible that the princess was out running around with only a single escort in the middle of an active war-zone.

I'm not sure how some are coming to the conclusion that Inaho didn't react strongly to the death of his friend. He clearly did, and was visibly distraught for the remainder of the scene - he even went so far as to interpret Marito's instructions in such a way that they could take revenge against the Martians. He merely failed to react in the hyper-dramatic fashion we've come to expect from fictional protagonists.

@danna 45, the villain's mech prolly did have some ranged ability, he just likes squishing things.

[up] I do think he was visibly shaken up by the death, however I still stand by the fact that he did not try very hard at all to keep him from dying. That grip was terrible and he could have easily used two hands.

He even admits that he messed up by spending too much time messing around, so it wouldn't surprise me if he had ranged weapons and was having too much fun to use them until it was too late.

Inaho stood there, completely unmoving, for a few minutes after his friend died.

I wouldn't call that not being affected. I'd call it 'feeling too empty inside to get emotional'.

Wasn't Inaho holding onto something to make sure he himself didn't fall out of the van, therefore rendering his efforts completely pointless anyway? Plus, wild driving through a recently-ruined area in order to escape the psychopath with the invincible mecha. I'd say it's a miracle he even held on as long as he did.

I wonder if that super mecha shield actually prevents the use of range weapons? That would be sort of a disadvantage( and would make sense. (still: your invulnerable, so it seems worth it)

[down] I was thinking they might not be able to make a convenient hole to shoot through that that they can easily close again.

That would make sense if it uses too much energy for the lasers or something like that. Although yeah they are still pretty much untouchable so...

The shields don't seem to be blocking visible light, so lasers should work. And we saw the carrier aircraft use ranged weapons, so maybe it's a case of this particular mech not having any (or the ranged weapons it does have aren't suitable for making targets disappear). More likely is the ranged weapons just don't give the guy piloting it sufficient satisfaction.

I like the theory about him being vulnerable from below, which is why he doesn't sink through the ground. Also, he appears to have a finite power source, hence why he had to call off the chase.

[up] My personal theory about how to deal with him is to set of explosives at his feet to throw the mech off balance and let his matter disruptor just do the rest. Even if he turns it off, he's going to be stuck in fairly short order.

What I’d really like to see the Terrans do is strip their Kataphrakts of their armor, since Martian weapons seem to be one-hit-KO’s no matter how well armored you are. The extra speed and manoeuvrability gained from ditching the armor might mean the difference between life and death, so going full-on Fragile Speedster could be the way to go.

Also, I recall an old Donald Duck comic where the bad guy had a suit of armor that was coated with stuff that absorbed everything except diamond (except on the soles of his feet). They defeated him by literally pulling the rug from under him. Gonna need a bigger rug…

Oooooooookaaaaaay.

The fact that Sho-kun is voicing Cruhteo already has me interested, as does the hot Martian Knight/Noble. Which are rather shallow reasons for being interested, I suppose.

Dammit Inaho, emote for fucks sake. People are dying, his sister just got curbstomped into unconsciousness, a Martian super-mech is chasing them and his friend just died before his eyes. Seriously, widen your eyes at least, or show a little concern.

Cutting off the Terrans' communications systems is quite a good and pragmatic tactic to use, as is their weaponized landing to clear out territory.

Is Slaine a pacifist? Or is it simply a case of not wanting to kill fellow Terrans?

Cruhteo seems to be a somewhat decent yet strict guy. He seems to genuinely care about the Princess' well-being.

I do hope that hot Martian is...fairly decent. Urobutcher aside, it seems such a shame to kill her off or make her unrepentantly evil like Trillram.

What was in your right hand is hope; And in another hand is something else to fade.

More like he looks at the Earthlings like the fellow human beings they are. Or possibly first-sortie anxiety.

It's interesting that a conspirator is now in the same van as the princess...
