You know, the podcast reminded me of something else I've been thinking about: this could be the first big animated film in nearly twenty years to prominently feature religion and religious themes. The church is apparently a big part of the town, I've seen a lot of crosses in the concept art and the Mumford and Sons song will be used in a religious context. In today's world, where Disney won't even allow a mention of God in one of their songs, I think this is pretty remarkable.
I said nearly. And besides, the last major one was The Prince Of Egypt. Either way, it's been a while.

Looking for some stories?I've been worrying that the movie may 'flat' on the drama....but hearing all this buzz about these dark themes and potentially tragic moments, I'm now looking even more forward to it! The Book of Life is going to be DEEP.
Gosh I haven't seen a kids movie in so long that actually had me deeply invested. Before anyone asks, no I didn't feel for the characters in The Lego Movie. It's a great movie, don't get me wrong, but when even the drama can't take itself seriously (most of the time) I just my brain off and enjoy what's given to me. Also I haven't seen HTTYD 2 yet.

I remember seeing the trailer for the first time and thinking "Wow, this has the potential to explore some really dark and mature ideas." I'm so glad they're going that route, even if I do fear for poor Manolo.note If it manages to deliver on those ideas, it can definitely be an Oscar frontrunner. Yes, more so than Lego Movie and HTTYD 2.

Looking for some stories?I'd have to say Jorge Gutierrez' simplified, almost "cutsey" art style would work eerily well with the more heavier moments of the film.
I don't know how to really explain it. Something about how 'loose' the characters look and how expressive they can be; then shifting to very subtle facial expressions with slower body movements that wouldn't normal see in this sort of style, creates more sympathy than you would from a more realistic design....it's almost child-like and atmospheric in a way.
Anyone else getting what I'm saying?

So I think I came up with a good idea
for a potential Bittersweet Ending. If this doesn't happen, then I call dibs on fanfic.
I'm picturing choreography similar to the monologue portions of Cell Block Tango.
I nominate Manolo Sanchez for Most Adorkable Animated Male of 2014!
For duty, duty, must be done, the rule applies to everyone;Nor will Hiro Hamada. Blood shall be spilled amongst the Tumblr fangirls this holiday season. Joy to the world!
But seriously, more Adorkable animated guys are always good. I don't find Hiccup that adorkable anymore, so I need to fill the void.

Looking for some stories? We may get something from the Comic-Con presentation on the 25th, but I'm guessing it'll be with The Boxtrolls in September.
Looking for some stories? Most movies get two or three trailers unless it's something really big or really small. And speaking of the advertising, I found character posters!

Looking for some stories?

Holy crap... Paul Williams is working on the film. This is so awesome. He's gonna make me cry with his music(if you listen to Phantom's theme on Phantom of the Paradise, just so much heart).
