Important note:
- This thread is for discussing individual self-demonstrating character pages. However, it was determined that consensus regarding whether such pages are or aren't necessary or beneficial to the wiki needs to be determined before discussing individual pages, as stated in this mod statement
, so this thread has been locked in the meantime. Please join the policy discussion in this thread
on the Wiki Talk forum.
However, this deletion hints that rules should be in place for self-demonstrating character pages, so does anyone have suggestions for what the rules should be?
I have a few:
- Deadpool has one, no questions asked (even if everyone else's are deleted). Especially Charizard's.
- The character must be able to speak English (or other intelligible languages), except for Rule of Funny (like with Groot's page). Charizard violated this rule. Kyoko's page is fine since she'd be speaking Japanese, for example, which is simply "translated" for reader convenience (largely based on the official subtitles).
- There can be a forum thread where people can post their drafts and suggestions for character pages, similar to the Fanon Pokédex. In this case, new character pages can't be started without being reviewed in the thread. This is to avoid having the wiki oversaturated with pages for characters with boring personalities (like Shu Ouma) or ones with strange speech patterns that aren't for Rule of Funny purposes like Charizard. I can just imagine the chaos that would have ensued if other tropers had decided to follow my lead and create Pokémon Speak pages for about 30 other species of Pokémon.
Any thoughts?

"Don't link these pages into their official character pages. Focus on the tropes as if written by the character, not on the autobiography— there are first-person fanfics and other wikis for that." Should probably remedy anything that does not fit into this... Basically, should probably remove anything unrelated to tropes on the pages themselves and the characters who have pages linking FROM the franchises.
I'd suggest removing any and all links to self-demonstrating pages from any Character pages, since that's basically what the first half says.
For my first entry on the page — if it is made — I'd like to try and test the waters on a potential page for the trio of Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May (with silent appearances from The Stig).
That could potentially be really funny, but it would have to consistently get their personalities right, and each trope listed would essentially be them making fun of each other.

I can’t even read a single word in there…
Can we have another self demonstrating character translate him?
"Come on Zero. Fight me. It feels so good :3"There’s SelfDemonstrating.Animal
But I don’t know otherwise.
"Come on Zero. Fight me. It feels so good :3"Anyone else notice that the SD character page index has been skyrocketing in the page rankings ever since they started having lore? And even moreso after Barney's page was introduced.
Statler and Waldorf, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Sam the Eagle, Pepe the King Prawn, and Bunsen & Beaker (together) could easily qualify for a page that would be more interesting than one for Kermit.

Statler and Waldorf would work well.
And I did notice the sudden new ranking. Maybe we could introduce the sandbox idea that was proposed in order to prevent oversaturation with new entries and determine which characters could qualify for new self-demonstrating pages.

...I am the one who added Kyoka Jiro/Earphone Jack for those (very likely) MHA people. Uh... her speech patterns are constantly sarcastic but still somewhat cheerful yet also deadpan and assertive, and she avoids shouting in a normal situation. Which is how she actually is. She is unique enough in personality and dialogue to stick out. ...Not something I'd say for a lot of characters in that series, though. Also Judge Doom who is the opposite of her because he's a Complete Monster of a villain but also has a strong sense of sarcasm coupled with self-righteousness.
Would it be kosher to bring back the old Groot page if we add Rocket acting as a translator?
Peace is the only battle worth waging.Yeah so I'm working on a Hajime Nagumo on Word Pad (only wordpad because Pastebin sucks). I need condensing it down though
While Hank certainly does have a unique voice with his Texan drawl, I'm not totally sure if it's enough to justify his own article (unless Hank's mundanity and normalcy can be used to further emphasize the World of Ham that usually makes up the cast of Self Demonstrating Character Pages).
Boomhauer definitely qualifies. Maybe Hank could also serve as a translator alongside Bill so as to have another perspective and to have all four of them present? Although there's certainly a good stinger joke to be made for Bill drinking alone in The Alley because he's the only one not invited.

You could also put what Groot actually means in notes (in the Sesquipedalian Loquaciousness that he's actually saying. Or both. For what it's worth, I feel like Rocket on his own would merit a page, so you could do a "Rocket & Groot" page, with both Rocket speaking for Groot and Groot's own dialogue having translations.
But yeah, the translations would work a little like this:
I am Groot.translation
Also, do you feel like Satoru Gojo could make for a good SD page? I can draft it now, or wait for the sandbox to be implemented. But I'm not as much into JJK as much as CSM (even though I love both) so I might have a bit of a harder time implementing his unique voice.
I also thought of doing a page for Toge Inumaki, with Panda translating for him.

he's cocky, arrogant, couple of soft spots and has everything to back it up...i say he can work, hell i can handle his character page, i've got more JJK knowledge and it'd be funny to piss off makima with bringing in the guy who floored her in death battle

Agreed! Hank's mundane type of speech could be used as a counterbalance against the whole World of Ham. And having the entire gang translate for Boomhauer could work well (Bill might have to wait to get his own page, though).
That page could wait until the sandbox is implemented.

On the subject of Hank Hill having a page, I thought The Stinger for his page would involve him actually carrying out his signature threat (you know the one), and on a Eldritch Abomination character. Oh, and the mention of Barney would involve him making a quip about him attending to a propane emergency at the actual show's studio, since the show was made in Texas (and finding the Barney he met to be a bit "off").

yknow with all the barney talk im kinda surprised there's like, zero mention of SCP-6690 aka the scp that involves the sesame street cast telling kids to kill barney, maybe if we get SD pages involving any of the staff that qualify enough(my moneys on clef or bright) they can mention what happened to him might have been a result of SCP-6690(or even our boy elmo can offhandedly mention it, he's got a page and was the reason the SCP existed in the first place)
"And for one night only...you can get your revenge."

ooo ye!
that and i also need to make him piss on barneh for the obligatory joke
