Journalist Wins $30K In Damages, In Case That Sparked Japan's #MeToo Movement
Now a judge has ordered the man she accused of the assault, former Tokyo Broadcasting System Washington Bureau Chief Noriyuki Yamaguchi, to pay Ito about $30,000 in damages, for her physical and psychological pain.
"I'm so happy," she said, according to Reuters. "It's not over. Now, I have to deal with how I live with my scars."
I'm sure a American from 1940 watching the current states of Japan and China would be very confused
Watch me destroying my country
x4 There's also India, though that's more a case of Bose's Azad Hind Fauj (Indian National Army) being backed by Japan during World War II and the fact that supporting Japan translated as "Fuck the British Empire".
And that they were willing to accept IJA brutality over that of the British Empire says something pretty bleak about what was going down in the subcontinent in the 1940s.

I don't think most Indians know of the atrocities the Japanese committed since they only occupied the Andaman islands. Hell, if the wiki is to be believed even Bose wasn't aware of the Japanese atrocities.

This person
thinks most criticism of Japanese society (such as gender inequality
) is motivated by racism and westerners wanting to feel superior. What do you think about that?

Okay, as a woman who spent hundreds of thousands of yen, and months of effort to leave her homeland and yet is still probaly going to have to go back in a couple months, fuck that person, seriously fuck them.
I can vouch for literally every tweet in this video, in fact I have experienced two of those things myself.
To translate
They don't even have to hide it back home, they will just flat out tell you to your face "We aren't hiring you because your a woman"
Remember this? The medical university who was doctoring the female students test scores, lowering them to prevent women from being doctors? And how there was this big fit because "there discriminating agianst women
, yea, thats... not what was causing the issue back home, its that they were LIEING about it, concealing it, and acting like they weren't... if they had just been open and said "Hey because your a woman your test score is going to be lower" that would have been considered fine.
Related to both, is the fact that until 2008 it was not legally allowed, as in it was AGAINST THE LAW for me to take IT courses, I had to take home ec, regardless of if I wanted that or not, and I could NOT take IT. Why? Well if you guessed its because I had two x chromosones you would be correct, any other reason and you would be wrong... Men were allowed to take IT courses, though they were not allowed to take Home Ec which is kind of its own issue as well since any one should be able to take any course they want... but ehhh.
Moving on, when I got out of high school I actually tried to join the JASDF because my grandfather was an aircraft mechanic in the imperial navy and he had a rather significant impact on me growing up, and well I thought airplanes were cool... and wanted to work with them... I was told my career prospects were secretary. No pilot, Not even mechanic, nope sit behind a desk and file papers.
Hell, when I left in 2012, it was still 100% legal for your husband to rape you, there was absolutely nothing you could do from a legal standpoint to say no to that, and from what I hear even though it is now finally illegal, your still not going to be able to prosecute it because any judge is going to say its your wifely duty to do that for your husband whenever he demands.
Since 2012, things have gotten a bit better, the restrictions on military work were removed, and Abe has made a huge push to try and get women into the workforce... its actually one of the things I do have to credit the man on...
There has also as of last year been an attempt to expand the definition of sexual assault beyond just Rod A into Slot B via him pinning you, and demanding that you fight back... yes its currently that restrictive, forcing things like oral, or any other part of your body is not considered as such... Or if he drugs or blackmails you, its also not currently as such because you didn't fight back.
Agian, things ARE getting better, but like if you think its a quick process, or something that is already done... Well I can go find you the video of one of our politicians trying to talk about maternity issues.... and the rest of the diet laughs her off the podium because "If you could have children, you wouldn't be here" because that's still what society at large views us as, nothing but a production engine for babies, even if they wont admit to it openly.

Paternalistic attitudes of course persist everywhere, but in Japan they were enforced rather than broken down as time went on. There's been enough talk on this thread about how conservative views survived the war and were bolstered by the US etc.
History, as always.

Dude, that sucks. I'm not a praying person, but I honestly hope it will work out for you.
If it would help formulate a plan B: the Netherlands has a very real shortage of trained IT workers, and generous immigration laws as far as I understand such things. Language barriers aren't much of a problem either, as long as you speak English.

Some Southeast Asians do see the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere as liberators (I've seen a few such people double down on the IJA Defense Force online) which might be why.
