Unfortunately, it seemed like the other company's formation was a lot more captivating than Valentine's own. That wouldn't do, not at all. It would be a shame not to spice up Guns n' Roses' presentation at least a little. Smiling to himself, he cloaked his frame at a convenient spot in one of the company's turning maneuvers, adjusted his course to compensate, and shortly reappeared precisely where he was supposed to be in the formation. Some movement and pointed fingers within the station seemed to indicate the Duke's ploy had been successful. He continued on like that for a little while, hoping against hope that Riley would order them to do something more interesting soon.

It turned out there wouldn't be time for something more interesting.

There was a rapid, high-pitched beeping going off in the station's security control room - indicators warning of unknown signatures, Flow portals opening where none were supposed to - some of them large. All sorts of warning lights had lit up, demanding action, demanding input of some kind.

The slowly cooling corpses on the floor of the room could hardly answer, however.

Gauss pistol still crackling from the killing shots, their killer glanced back with a tired smile, his face oddly stiff and plastic-looking; no doubt a psuedoskin mask.

The strings had been pulled. Now all that remained to be seen was how the puppets moved.

The frames outside danced and spun in elaborate motions, and all attention inside the station was on them - every pair of eyes on the whirling, shimmering shapes of the finest pilots the Centauri had to offer.

All eyes, that is, except two pairs. One pair belonged to a knight, his arm in a sling and face dark and downcast. He was slumped in his chair, trying not to look like a petulant child but certainly feeling like it. A military man never fit in at a party, and it was worse here - just in eyesight of what he wanted to be doing. If only he hadn't stumbled on the damned stairwell! He hadn't even gotten a particularly good seat - although if he looked down, he could see the shape of the Nirvanan delegates below - their sober, more conservative fashions clashing entertainingly with the wild colors of the Ccentauri.

A wild-eyed man was nearby, stumbling through the enraptured crowds. Odd, he looked nothing like the blue-bloods around here - not nearly rich enough his clothes shabby and shape odd-looking, bulging in the wrong places. In fact, he didn't look like one of the Nirvanans at all. He stumbled forward, grabbing the railing with hands that were slick with a nervous sweat... And began to haul himself up over it.

At that moment it became clear. The knight nearly hurled himself from his seat - no time to draw his sword, no time to do anything.

The Samsaran man opened his mouth and screamed, his voice painfully loud in the enclosed, reverberating space. "Die, whores of the Centauri!" His hands tore at his chest - no, at the straps binding something to his back. He was about to leap, to fall, down towards the glass floor below; and if he had, the entire chamber would likely have depressurized...

And then the knight grabbed him from behind - old and crippled he might have been, but the Samsaran seemingly weighed less than a toothpick, all skin and bones. They fell to the floor, nobles scattering away, trying to escape the sudden, unexpected brawl.

This was why, when the bomb went off, not everyone was to die.

It would not make a sound, at least to the perceptions of the knights. All they would see was the slit on the station's side abruptly flash white, before abruptly becoming too clouded with smoke to see into.

Of course, they would almost certainly be distracted as the station screamed to life, warning signals going off in every Frame present. Enemies were incoming, dozens of them - ships dropping out of the flow mere kilometers from the station - carriers and battleships both, a motley mix of frigates and corvettes launching Frames and cannonfire.

The station's shields, at least, were automated - as soon as the first shots were fired they were up, the pulsating green-blue lights flickering into a sphere around the station. But there were gaps - narrow, but traversable. And through these came the enemy.

Yet still not a single order was issued - not to defend or to retreat. The turrets were silent.

The knights were alone.

"Jesus, Mary, Joseph and the Twelve Fucking Apostles of Eden," Fergus said into the Company channel, "They move bloody fast."

He looked on the monitor towards the station, seeing the smoke, "Aaaand either half the nobles we're supposed to be protecting here are dead or they're having a poorly timed rave."

"Right, typical formations should do here. It's too risky to rush the shield generator, but be ready on my command to go into Sortie formation. Assault Formation; let's establish our perimetres here. To the new comers, that means that I'm deploying a shield, take your pot shots then get behind me. Princess, you're going to be critical in an open fire fight like this. Gold and Steel, both of you need to keep an eye on our flanks. Scrap, think you could try to blind these guys for us?"

He moved now to the Battalion's radio; "Alright Dame Lee, you think the Roses have the situation under control? Because they look like they're heavy on your fooking flank. We've got generators B and A, but you have most of the heavy bloody lifting since they're far off on your flank."

In a combat situation, Reid typically had one priority and one responsibility: harassing enemy frames with his jammer and his disruptor. Typically he went about this by acting as a lone sapper while the rest of his team distracted the enemy, but being on the receiving end of an ambush meant he had to take a more defensive tack. Reid, who would admit to not being an expert on formations in frame combat, believed his company's medium assault frames should take point and push forward cautiously.

Reid's mind flashed back to the numerous occasions he had stared down an ambush in simulations; he felt he had a working understanding of the situation. After only a moment's hesitation he fired two bursts from his Cowl, each in a wide arc, and formed up on Robert's left flank. "13 of them...", he thought out loud. Turning on his comm, he flatly stated "Malware ready to support the assault. Just get me close."

"Emperor preserve us!" Elaine swore, as all patriotic fervor drained from her face. "What in the name of the Commonwealth just happened?" She began looking around, trying to get a grip on the situation. This wasn't how this was supposed to have gone, and now it looked like she was suddenly in combat, and things were no longer fun anymore.

She took a few deep breaths when she heard Fergus over the radio, the voice of her commander snapping her back to reality. She adjusted her grip on the Gladius' controls, trying to remember her training. Her body was shaking, but she had to focus. The only thing she could really do right now, if she wanted to get through this, was focus on the present, and panic later.

"Sunset, uh, pulling back," she announced, continuing along her path, thankful for her luck. She was careful to keep some distance between herself and the station, just in case the entire thing exploded and took her out with it.

She reorientated her frame, turning towards the enemies, and muttered, "I, the Gladius Centauri, will knock you all down."

"An attack!?" No this wasn't supposed to happen. This was supposed to be just another boring expo. She had to calm down, this is what she was here for, this is what her country had trusted her to do. The thought allowed her to focus somewhat.

It all seemed to happen in an instant. The shift from dull exhibition to frantic combat left a part of Victoria's mind reeling, thankfully her training kicked in just as suddenly.

"Acknowledged Red Branch," she responded to the order, deploying her jammer to hinder the enemy's accuracy. Fergus hardly seemed surprised despite his belief their assignment would see little to no combat, she had to assume it was his years of experience. She sent her Frame back toward the deploying shields, firing on the advancing Federation units to buy herself and her comrades time.

Why weren't the turrets firing? She was confidant that the duo companies could take care of the incoming frames, but that wouldn't halt the assault on its own. As Fergus had noticed, there was something going on within the station, and there'd been no warning about the attack, let alone a response to it. Her mind raced, wondering if there was anything she could possibly do from where she was.

"This is Sixth Knight Victoria Cascade to Visuddhimagganote  Station," she sent a broad transmission to any receivers the station might have open, even broad casting over the PA system would be better than nothing. "Anyone with clearance, proceed to the control room and activate the station's defenses. Please acknowledge if you can."

With a quick acknowledgement, Robert flew in formation with his company, content to take in the view of space which never seemed to get old. As the formation was turning towards the station however, Robert suddenly noticed a slight rippling in the void behind the shield projectors. Feeling something unsettling in his gut, Robert stopped his frame and watched. Only a moment later, the fabric of space tore open to reveal the sudden appearance of a flow portal. More alarming however were the ships that were coming out of it. Rouch, grey and utilitarian, it was immediately obvious they were Federation vessels. Federation vessels that were now launching a wave of Frames.

Robert's shock lasted for merely a moment before he sprang into action, arming his KND-R BAR for combat as the frames approached the shields. "This is a bloody attack, if I ever saw one! Vanguard, engaging the enemy!" Robert stood his ground and fired upon the spear of the enemy formation as it came into range, hoping to dull their charge slightly.

"Copy that Malware!" Robert replied to Reid. "I'll try and keep them off you! You go ahead and get on them!"

Rozaliya was about to follow up in the formation when disaster struck. For a moment, she was gripped with panic, but her years of training kicked in and gave her the inner calm she needed. The moment her order came, she rushed towards the Shroud, who was deploying cover, and prepared to supply healing at a moment's notice.

Gabriel's eyes widened in surprise at the sudden flux of Flow-gates and the outpouring of warships and Frames. His gaze darted back and forth across his display as he assessed the sudden burst of movement and hostiles in something approaching slack-jawed awe. He took a deep breath as Frames slipped in between gaps in the shields and tightened his hands around the controls.

Federation Frames.

He clenched his teeth tightly, swinging his naginata into a ready position.

So it begins again. He thought to himself stonily as Sir Mac Morna barked orders to the company, deploying cover and ordering them behind it. My duty and my vengeance align once more.

He watched as Gold darted forward towards the enemy, and he envied her. His hands squeezed the sticks tightly, his wedding ring digging into his skin. How he longed to join her charge and feel the wrench of twisting metal as he took his vengeance once again, like he had nine years earlier. He hungered for it.

But that was not his duty now. Not yet. And so he sighed and flicked his Frame into reverse, falling back behind the barrier erected by the drones, to cover the flank, to cower until the enemy was close enough for him to safely engage.

To do his duty.

"God damn," was all Rick said. This was shaping up to be a bit more of a demonstration than anyone had planned for.

He was the only heavily armored frame on this side of the station, with the others being light at medium. The other heavy was a bit away, already working on deploying shields. The others might be able to that Hive in time, but he knew that he sure as hell couldn't. He was stuck out here for the time being, and without any cover - they had only packed ammo since, hey, who needs anything else for a demonstration? But time was precious right now, so the choice was pretty simple - he could shoot, or he could move. He couldn't do both.

Charging up the MECC, all he could do was utter a quick prayer to the CIWS Laser System aboard the Ragnarok. "I oughta change my callsign to Sitting Duck," he muttered to himself as he aimed the monstrous cannon at a Remora that was hanging out towards the back of the enemy group. There were so many units in front of it, he was hoping that even if his aim wasn't true, it would slag something else along the way.

"Ragnarok is here," he said as he pulled the trigger.

Having been watching as a number the spectators who had taken note of his attempt to liven up the exercises were suddenly blown across the gallery's floor in the aftermath of a bright flash, Valentine realized what was going on immediately, and that realization was coupled with a sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach. He'd been expecting something like this to happen at some point in the near future, but not quite so soon. At least several days from now.

Briefly turning over the details in his mind, he came to another startling realization: half or more of the people who'd doubtlessly been injured by the blast were people he'd talked to during the party. All that painstaking networking, his strained tolerance in the face of sickening sycophantry, his exactingly polite evasion of repeated spousal suggestions, had all that foundation been for nothing? Valentine's mind reeled at the tragic loss of potential profits. Such a senseless waste of perfectly exploitable resources!

Shaking his head mournfully, the Duke switched Sigrdrífa to stealth mode and began to drift toward a spot nicely between the two groups of Terran flying corpses, the movements coming so naturally to him by now that he barely even registered his limbs moving the controls. "Well, Red Rose of Atlantica?" he queried expectantly, awaiting orders for the sake of making sure he wouldn't be charging into a throng without any backup at all, "Which of these dead shall we send to the hereafter first?"

Riley froze. Just froze. Her frame hung in space as still as any of the giant planets floating listlessly in orbit around the sun. Hands gripped controls but neither pushed nor pulled in any direction. This was not what she had expected.

This was not supposed to happen. Enemy units past the shields? What happened to the station defenses?

"Alright Dame Lee, you think the Roses have the situation under control?" Lord Fergus was talking. It took a few moments for Riley to make out the words, but her mind thawed just as quickly as it had froze when she saw others in her company taking the initiative. "... you have most of the heavy bloody lifting since they're far off on your flank."

"I am aware of that." Riley's voice carried more irritation that she had intended. "We'll keep the far generators safe."

But how was the question. They enemy had them outnumbered. Surprise had been on their side. The Knights did have their numbers concentrated though. But they had to protect the station and the generators, they could not leave the farther group alone. What would Uncle do?

I reckon' fighting a war be simple enough. You find the enemy fast as you can, hit him hard as you can, and keep movin' on. Well, Red Rose of Atlantica?

"Well, Red Rose of Atlantica?" Lord Valentine's words pierced through her uncle's. Switching to the company line, Riley said to the rest of the Gun n' Roses, "Company, defending the generators is our top priority. Get between the enemy and Generator C1. Initiate a firing pass on the enemy units directly in front of us on your way, but don't stop to scrap it out. Let the Hounds take care of them. Lets go!"

Alive at last, Riley flew into the battle.

Pro Tip: Using all your available AP during your turn is advised. The enemy probably isn't going to give you a break.

Be advised: Enemy names have changed. Still the same enemies, but I'm trying out something that might prove interesting.

Within the station, it was chaos. Smoke and glass dust filled the air, alarms were blaring at deafening volume and screams rang out as the thronged nobles pushed and shoved for their chance to escape.

The bomb had blown a number of platforms to pieces, and the glass shards had rained down on those unfortunate to be below - many of them large enough to crush a person beneath. Bodies lay scattered across the lower platforms and the bottom of the viewing area, and the Maharani didn't want to look close enough to see if they were breathing or not.

Who were they after? she thought, blearily, staring up at the shattered, burning platforms above her. She was flat on her back, one of her bodyguards slumped over her and unpleasantly motionless. Shards of glass like daggers protruded from his back. Was it me? Or was it the nobles? She supposed it hardly mattered now - All it would take would be a single shot from the battle outside to finish them all off, wouldn't it?

The room was dimming. Maharani Shyama was not afraid to die, and closed her eyes.

"The station is under attack. All personnel to battle stations. I repeat, all personnel to battle stations. Civilians should proceed to the inner ring, where they will be led to escape craft or shelters accordingly. I repeat, the station is under attack..."

Somewhat annoyingly, though, she did not die, and the loudspeaker's feminine monotone drilled into her aching head. She opened her eyes again - the room was indeed darker, and as she began to crawl out from beneath the corpse of her bodyguard she realized why.

A blast shield was closing over the bottom of the viewport, the battle outside slowly fading as darkness claimed the bottom of the room. Only the dim orange glow of the chandeliers and the flashing red of emergency lights lit the glass space now - and the fires, of course. It gave it a hellish, disturbing light that cast flickering shadows across everything.

Not dead yet, then, she thought, grimly, standing up shakily.

A few others were picking themselves up nearby - including, much to her displeasure, that sleazy Trio Knight Ducal... Whatever. Gladstone. He had a few shards of glass in his hair and one in his arm, but otherwise he seemed fine - to her surprise he wasn't even panicking. The platform was covered in bodies - many of them looking like they'd fallen from far above. Surprisingly few of them were dressed like nobles - most seemed to be their aides and staff. Of course, there were more of those to fall... She announced her presence with a hacking cough.

"Ah!" he said, happily, turning in place. A few of the other nobles had fallen in with him, obviously looking to him for guidance. "The Maharani! I'm glad to see you've escaped this... Unpleasantness." He glanced up at a glassy crack announced another platform giving way, though fortunately it seemed nothing had been left on it but decorative tableware. "We should leave," he said, simply. "But the staircases have given way."

"That's... Obvious," she wheezed, trying to catch her breath. "We're stuck down here?"

"No, if I know our engineers they'll have a reserve staircase. At the very least a maintenance tunnel or a dumbwaiter..."

A door she had hardly noticed clicked open near the side of the platform, a marine in Centauri clothing waving at them. "My lords! Hurry! This area's in danger of being breached!"

"Hah! See? The Centauri are always prepared." Gladstone sounded smug, his already chicken-like chest puffing up a little further. Shyama wanted to kick him.

The ragged group of nobles and aides stumbled across the debris-covered floor, shielding their eyes and faces from further glass dust. The Maharani coughed again into her hand, and shuddered as she saw it flecked with blood. Bad sign. Very bad sign.

The doorway led to, as expected, a maintenance hallway - it was a little surprising to find that this area, at least, looked like its purpose. Pipes and wires covered the walls, hissing and whirring noises fille the air, and the lighting was a bare minimum of red bulbs strung every ten feet or so. It was cramped, too - painfully so. Gladstone was the first in, with Shyama close behind.

With a salute, the marine who'd led them here stood at attention. "My lords! We need to get you to safety. There are enemy frames outside attacking the station." Something seemed... Off, about him. His face was stiff, locked in a smile, and when he spoke his lips seemed too slow for the words. Dizzy and in pain, Shyama couldn't quite place it...

The PA systems of the station howled again to life, the sound echoing even down into these maintenance corridors - though it took on an ominous, echoing sound as it did. "All defense personnel, be advised. Enemy infiltrators have been found within the base. They are carrying psuedoskin masks and are likely disguised as personnel. Marines are advised to make security checks immediately."

Shyama nearly ran into Gladstone's back as he stopped dead, and the dazed noble behind her bumped into her in turn, nearly knocking her over. The marine continued on for a moment, before pausing and glancing back. "My lords?" he echoed.

"Marine, identify yourself." Gladstone's tone was clipped, tense. "Your ID and rank."

The marine turned, slowly, his face still set in that smile.

"Ah."

Turn 1

Through the glimmering barrier of the shields, bursts of light and fire could be seen. There was a battle raging outside, but a very one-sided one; several Nirvanan Corvettes had jumped out of the Flow and begun to put up a fight, but the vast majority of the fleet was being pounded without remorse, unable to return fire effectively yet. No doubt crews were rushing to their stations, but it was going to be a badly one-sided battle unless help arrived...

For a moment, there was no reply to the station for the hails, the station's communications confused and jammed - there was no doubt an interdictor frigate out there with the others pounding on the shields. The seconds ticked on, before a burst of static announced that at least someone was present - a broken but audible voice followed after. "This —— Station in danger —- Do you copy? Defensive systems are disabled, we're ——- now. Reinforcements —— repeat, are inbound. Hold out as long as you can."

The Federation (or perhaps Samsaran?) Frames had obviously not expected any resistance. They had already begun to swing around to attack the shieldships when the barrage of fire from the Knights struck them, scattering them into disarray. One Remora, hit badly by Gun Show's MECC, fired off a few desperate shots before diving back around the shield - where it would, presumably, be safe. Unless it was shot by one of its own allies, of course. Or a laser...

The others, though, barreled on regardless, which would lead to their misfortune. The trio of Magellans charged straight into the barrage of fire from Malware's Cowl, leaving them darting in an attempt to avoid being hit - reducing their accuracy. His jammer scrambling their sensors only added onto that misfortune. One Quicksilver peeled off with twin Jian ready, charging straight for Gold!

"Alright! Get wrecked, asshole!" Rick commented as his MECC blasted the bejesus out of the Remora, and it retreated into cover. He gave a fist-pump into the air of his cockpit, and then turned on his thrusters to follow along behind Red Rose, pushing towards the enemy. "You heard the Lieutenant - let's move, ladies. Left, now! I got eyes on all your asses, I'll make sure to light up anything that closes in from the right. Malware, get the hell over here, hide behind me if you have to, just don't make yourself a target for those damned Magellans"

Having set the Ragnarok in motion, he took a few moments to do the fun job that was sadly necessary every time the MECC cracked open the universe. Reloading. He silently hummed to himself as the machine tended to that bit of business, keeping an eye out on the battlefield in case that main force decided to try following them.

  • AP 1: Accelerate down 1, right 1
  • AP 2: Reload MECC

"Perfect target." Veiyhl took aim at the incoming Quicksilver. This situation had happened exactly one before in combat for her. It had ended with her frame being critically damaged though she earned the kill. This time, she had experience. She prepared for a high speed grapple, bracing her limbs against her frame's torso.

  • AP 1-2: Stab Quicksilver A11 with both swords.
  • AP 3-4: Release Quicksilver and accelerate right.

"Hounds," Fergus said calmly into the Company channel and the last hints of drink washed over him, "We are going to hold position and lay down suppressive fire; Concentrate on those aiming for the shields. Sunset, if you can get a clear shot at the A10, take it. Phoenix, don`t stop your momentum; get to the other flank and be prepared to assist with combatting the central Magellan group, should they continue towards us."

With his orders finished, Fergus fired off two quick shots at the Magellan.

  • Shroud:
    • AP 1: Fire at Magellan A4 (Farseer, Shot 1)
    • AP 2: Fire at Magellan A4 (Farseer Shot 2)

With that finished, he took a nip of his whiskey and turned on the channel again,

"Gold," He spoke as calmly as he could, watching his Company member as she charged further ahead, "You've disobeyed a direct order in a combat situation and are charging towards a four against one situation. We do not have the ressources to cover you and I advise against it. If you retreat, we will do what we can. However, I can do far worse to you than the Federation ever could if you intend to do this again, so you may want to take your chances with them. But you'd better hope they hit well and save Gabe good spot."

Victoria hoped her Jammer was working properly, it said it was but she'd never used one in combat; for all she knew it wasn't even a functional version. She also hoped the Spitfire pilot Fergus was berating knew what she was doing.

"Understood Visuddhimagga Station," she responded to the garbled transmission, for all the good that would do. The promise of reinforcements was the only hope of saving the space elevator from devestation unless the Regiment went on a full, suicidal offensive. She was more than willing to give her life if required, but not against direct orders. She shifted her frame's trajectory to avoid slamming into her comrades further back, firing on the approaching Magellan's.

  • Accelerate 2 Left
  • Fire Cowl on Magellan A8
  • Fire Cowl on Magellan A8 a second time
  • Reload Cowl

Gabriel grimaced as the static buzzed through his comms, a barely decipherable promise of reinforcements coming in, but he disregarded it. It didn't matter if they had ten thousand Frames on the way if they didn't kill these Fed bastards here and now.

"Yes, Sir Mac Morna." He clenched his teeth and let out a long, slow breath he had been holding as he tightened his grip on the sticks. Killing Feds was always therapeutic.

He glanced at Gold again wistfully, before regretfully collapsing his naginata and drawing his beam rifle as he drifted towards the center of the two companies. He had a duty to Sir Mac Morna, so he would do as ordered, no matter what his longing to join Gold in the charge.

He tore his gaze away from her as she dove towards a Quicksilver and scanned the battlefield. The Feds had split in two to take out the shields, but a trio of Quicksilvers was tearing towards their center, attempting to drive a wedge and separate the two companies.

He raised his Beacon and sighted in on the closest charging Frame, letting out two jet of directed energy as he accelerated to the center.

  • [1 AP: Switch weapons, Beacon]
  • [1 AP: Fire at A7]
  • [1 Ap: Fire at A7]
  • [1 AP: Accelerate 2 right]

As the rest of the company flew to their positions Riley kept an eye on the enemy positions blinking on her monitor. It was a swarm of red dots with an arbitrary number tacked to each one after their model names. They were definitely going after the shields. Riley fought the urge to just start shooting at the enemy attempting to destroy the generators. Take out one and it would just be replaced by another, and there was no way she could destroy them all in time before they succeeded or another one of their friends came and took her out.

But she did have someone who could do that for her.

"Midas, get to Generator C ASAP. Vanguard back him up." she said clear and loud, "Orchid, start picking off those bastards trying to swarm Generator D. Rest of you keep them safe!"

Reloading her own weapon, Riley took aim and joined in the shootout.

  • AP 1: Reload with Niot Ammo
  • AP 2: Fires WR-16 Sniper Rifle at Magellan B1's sensors
  • AP 3: Reload with Niot Ammo

"Should've paid more attention in training," Elaine chided herself, frowning as she saw her shot barely graze the enemy. "Alright, then, let's try this again. For the Commonwealth!" She steadied herself, and looked around, hearing her commander's words over the radio.

"Ah, uh, right! A10, on i- I mean, yes, Sir Mac Morna!" she nodded, working the controls like a wizard at the keys. She took a deep breath, making sure to focus this time, and fired.

"Already on my way, Red Rose." Indeed, Valentine had been in the process of gunning his frame ever faster toward Generator C before Riley had even finished her first sentence. "You'd better hurry up, Vanguard, or I won't leave any for you!"

This was going to be a bit of a tricky maneuver, but if it paid off, it would pay off big. Baring his teeth into a feral grin as he sped up and engaged in an invisible game of chicken with the shield wall, the last son of the Goldschmidts extended his Stalker's sword arm to rend apart the nearby Magellan almost as an afterthought.

1-3: Accelerate 6 down; 4: Sneak Attack on Magellan A5.

Rozaliya grit her teeth as she was hit. Thankfully, the cover made it so the damage was light. There was no need to spend any Reconstructors on herself. As the team damage reports flashed across her screen, Rozaliya most of all wanted to get in range to heal Malware, but she was sure to draw more enemy fire if she left cover. Gold too might have benefited from the nanomachines in his charge, but it was too late now. Instead, she chose to deploy her healing nanomachines on Shroud, so that he could keep tanking the hits.

Deploy Reconstructor nanomachines on Shroud. Otherwise focus on defending.
