Given that the CDP had shifted towards the right in order to pick up disaffected LDP voters, I don't see how this makes it any easier — Ishiba has been dealt an embarrassment as leader of the LDP and the strongest challenger among its factions is the harder-right Takaichi (who lost the leadership election last month to Ishiba by only a small margin).

Second Taiwanese volunteer in the Ukrainian Legion KIA. He used to be a Taiwanese special forces commando.
Supposedly his final assignment is under the Aviation and Special Forces Command before he made the trek to Europe.

X-posted from the War in Ukraine thread: The Hankyoreh: South Korean Intelligence officials are skeptical that North Korean casualties have occured.
A different article also says that the ROK Ministry of National Defense estimates that the DPRK sent more than 10000 troops to Ukraine, but they did not conform previous reports that 40 North Korean troops died in combat.
The government wants to send troops to observe the situation, but the National Assembly probably would not approve. The president is trying to find a loophole that would allow him to circumvent the law that requires approval from the legislature for deploying troops overseas.

"Enshittification truly is how platforms die"-Cory DoctorowYoon held a press conference, ostensibly to apologize for the corruption scandals related to his wife, Kim Keon-hee
. However, when asked about the opposition parties' bill to appoint a special counsel to investigate first lady Kim, he claimed that such a special counsel was unconstitutional, despite the fact that he was part of a special counsel investigation tram during his tenure as prosecutor. When an American journalist from NKNews
, an outlet specializing in North Korean matters, asked him a question in Korean, he said "I can't understand you" and made fun of his accent.
As a result, his approval rating went down to 19 percent, a new low.
I don't know if this is the right place to post about this, but:
Recently read this neat graphic novel titled Banned Book Club
at my local library, which detailed a fictionalized look at the politics and civil unrest of 1980s South Korea. I found it interesting reading about the brutality of Chun Doo-hwan's regime, the events that led to it, and the various protest methods used by the civilians. And if I'm being honest, I wouldn't be surprised if civilians other parts of the world today end up having similar sentiments to the book's characters... but what do you guys think?

Reports indicate that Taiwanese HAWK missiles were deployed to Ukraine.
AFAIK, they were retired from Taiwanese military service since 2015 due to getting NASAM missiles and locally made missile systems.
Democratic Party of Korea leader Lee Jae-myung was convicted of making false claims with the intent to win an election.
Because he was sentenced to one year in prison, with the sentence suspended for two years, he would lose his seat in the National Assembly if the verdict were to be finalized. He would also be barred from running in the 2027 presidential election. Lee announced plans to appeal the verdict.
It looks like the PPP can't win the next presidential election, so they're resorting to jailing any opposition candidates.

A Time article reported on four South Koreans who were prosecuted for going to Ukraine, including Ken Rhee.
It's basically mentions that Seoul wants to be very careful and safe. A judge mentioned at the time Rhee was given a suspended sentence that it [his going to sign up with the Legion] "could put an excessive burden on his homeland regardless of his intentions."
Regardless, I hail these guys as heroes.
Yuriko, Princess Mikasa passed away at age 101. IHA said its old age, but media outlets countered it and said that they were told its pneumonia.
The Imperial family’s in a mourning period now. With that, the family gets smaller. Her children are either married to commoners or have no children of their own who are male.
Not sure if it’ll pressure conservatives, but knowing them…

That's going to be the fun part. The Conservative Party of Japan got a seat in the Diet with the Reiwa Shinsengumi, although CPJ is a far-right party, so they're a concern.
