Jumped the gun?

Nein! That was just a taste of the patriotism to come, like a sip of the tea before you let it cool to drinkability.

I'm still giving Rena shit for stealing it from the auld Lang Syne.

Well shit. That's what I get for doing math without actually looking at the map. The main point still stands, unless we are taking into account the asteroids gravitational field/knowing it's mass, you can't orbit it without constant input on the Frame's end. That was the part that had me all just bugs me.

But I don't think anyone was debating that. If you look at the posts Sabre said that it would be an artificial orbit that would be adjusted each turn or whatever. It was the other stuff that caused the issue.

Yeah, I retract most of rant. Although the fact that the upkeep AP wasn't calculated would then be an issue.

I wasn't sure what the upkeep AP would be, but I was assuming "most of my 4AP/turn", much of which probably would have been spent on fractional burns (i.e., less than one whole unit one way or another). Also, yeah, I was assuming the asteroid was big enough that the "artificial orbit" would have been sustainable. It would have closer to an aircraft maintaining a constant elevation than it is to an orbit, seeing how irregularly shaped the asteroid was.

Regardless, that idea was nixed (although there will be plenty of wry commentary if enemies show up from behind the asteroid), so I'm currently seeing how I could best settle into the stationary sniper role. Which is good from a cover/stealth standpoint but horrible from a momentum standpoint. (At 10 squares away from the surface and moving at 9 sq/rd, I would have had two turns of head start or more if anyone tried jumping me. Momentum is hard to acquire and hard to shed, but free to keep, after all.)

[incidentally, I don't mind math-based critiques like that one. If I end up pulling a move that ends up being mathematically impossibru I'd rather know about it and what I did wrong instead of continuing in ignorance.]

You know, as a sidenote, I only just noticed that Reid is one of the older characters on the Cent side, with Richard the same age and only Fergus, Gabriel, and Rozalya older. I'm not gonna retcon it, it's just something funny I noticed; I didn't really read through the apps before I wrote mine and assumed 27 would have been on the younger side of things.

The Original Cents went full Anime with the average age being around 19-21 and minimum enlistment age being 16.

^^ Same thing happened to me in the first game. I said something like 24-26 for my character, thinking it'd put me middle of the pack, and wound up being the oldest character in the squad by several years, which was half of why he wound up just sort of becoming the Fed team leader by default.

Wait, previous momentum is gone? I thought that we were specifically told: no air resistance, no loss in momentum.

Which post are you referring to?

[up][up][up]Both teams flashed forward. It wouldn't make a lot of sense for our momentum to carry forward. We have basics laid out but map based combat is a new innovation for this systems; kinks need to be worked out, including the AP/Movement conversion rate.

Any thoughts on my earlier suggestion to allow us to move 1 space with no momentum leftover for 1 AP by essentially using half the AP's movement value to accelerate in that direction, and then the other half to cancel out the momentum?

I like it but have not seen Hydrall on since you posted it. I'm sort of a pseudoDM along side Parable, pulling stuff around in the background with fluff and bouncing ideas around, but mechanics are ultimately his call.

Sorry I didn't comment, but I did have the post in mind to bring to his attention; I just don't like commenting on stuff when I don't feel I have anything that I can add to it.

On the momentum: Like Faux said, we flashed forward to avoid ten turns of drifting quietly through space because I didn't realize how slow turns can go sometimes. It's back at zero for the moment. Just assume you slowed down to approach the factory and such.

The factory is located within an enclosed cave. I didn't 'seal it off' on the map because I didn't think anyone would assume otherwise, considering I stated it was located in a hollowed-out part of the asteroid in my latest post, but I can do that.

On moving one square with no leftover momentum: Sure!

Speaking of momentum, I'm having trouble remembering what Roland's current momentum is because I apparently have the short term memory of a fruit fly. A drunk fruit fly, at that.

Momentum has been reset to zero, due to flash forward.

If you have trouble remembering, Hydrall does post current momentum at the end of the previous turn.

Also, I think we can safely say that, for the time being; 1 AP=2 movements.

If 1 AP is now two delta-V's, how does that affect Christine's machine special ability? Before she could get one extra momentum change per AP twice per turn. Is it going to be 2 extra twice per turn now?
