By the end of the first year we've already had three kobold thieves, a dead dog, and a clothier who's soon to join it. Happy?
There's two of us who've been people'd. You as yourself, and me under the name Mr. Chin. I Personned myself before the game even started, and lucked out that I was the Expedition Leader. How's that for luck?
SPARKLEBULWARS!!!! :O
I am THIS close to suggesting that you mod my hummie to be a legendary musician, and then give him the name Freddie. But that would get weird in a hurry, and I'm sure that I'd have more explaining to do than I'd like to when the wife reads this. :)
So when you got enough people, can you put me down as a hunter/plant gatherer/lumberjack/animal caretaker/farmer? Because I shall not be Condorito the Boozesmith, I shall be Condorito, Masterwork Ranger!

"...An overfed, long-haired, leaping gnome..." - Eric Burdon/WarSo, y'all know how our fortresses tend to run into technical difficulties? Well, this one is no exception. My upload speed is jack for something this big, so I've handed the mod files and description of a good embark over to Tuefel and he'll reset us. I'm not giving up on getting my first year out there, but maybe I'll keep tinkering with it and save the files for the next time we do a surface embark.
Because we all should have options, no?
I would request the bookkeeper or manager, and also a turn running this place. I already have my idea for the mass sacrifice weapon... I mean, completely harmless and totally beneficial project that will aid everyone.
For some reason, I also get the feeling that an alicorn commissioned this fortress.

Your malevolence knows no bounds. I absolutely love it – viha Kirbonium.I killed the fort already. :/ We have to do be more "dorfy" to survive. Getting up a basic protected area without burrowing into a mountain takes a lot of materials be they logs or blocks of stone.
The caravan came and I did some trade. There was an ambush after it left for some reason. They killed everyone rather easily. All 12 dwarves were cornered and butchered in the temporary dinning hall and sleep area.
The only way this will work is if we live in caves in the cliffs without burrowing too far down and then building a large protected area in which place buildings.
Who watches the watchmen?Condo: We were pretty primitive as it was. Most of the stuff was made with logs until we could make enough stone blocks. Doors, beds, workshops, floors, and roofs. Mostly because we can get logs more quickly then we can get rock into block.
We can do this but I think we have to accept we are going to live in fortified cliff side caves or even in walled up hidey holes like with Water Burned.

Who watches the watchmen?Yeah, that's why I keep mentioning berming. You can build houses like crazy if you have the hillsides to cover it.
There's also another option . . .
Strip the surface clean within the confines of your settlement, and dig out the buildings. It's mining, but you still live in an open settlement on the surface.
ETA: I've done the longhouse thing, too. I once did a longhouse, and designed the perimeter walls with tombs incorporated. I call it the grave tower. Bottom floor's a coffin-based tomb, and a couple ramps lead up to an archery tower rimmed with fortifications. Just connect the walls, and there you go.
Further ETA: Keep playing around with it until Monday. It's my next day off. Early afternoon I want to see if I can transfer my town's files in smaller chunks. If I can, I guess Sparklebulwarks will go back to my vision. MUAHAHAHAHA-Cough cough-

Welcome to Tattoopaints. Ignore the thread name, we couldn't get that town to transfer. The rest of the thread is everyone's posts, this is just the list of players.
So far the list is: 1. Tuefel Hinden 2. Condorito 3. Durza 4. Gand Aand R 5. Bladebound
Just tell us you want a turn and we'll add you to the list.
