The show didn't end, it just stopped, right?
I watched Time Chasers today. Now that's an episode that I should've heard good things about long ago.
Fresh-eyed movie blogI mean, most of the episodes in that collection are there because they're fan favorites, but it's not one people tend to go on forever about, like Manos, Space Mutiny, Pod People, and Santa Claus Conquers the Martians.
Fresh-eyed movie blogI did like Space Mutiny, but I think the others in the list I gave are overexposed.
Fresh-eyed movie blogPlot-wise? Yes, it ended, Pearl broke the controls to the Satellite of Love, sending it back to Earth; Mike, Crow, and Servo thereafter got an apartment in Wisconsin together and Gypsy started a major corporation.
I wrote a timeline page in case anyone's curious about how the show's plot (or lack thereof) has developed thus far. It's pretty short. Season 8 is the only one where things actually happen.
That doesn't mean this won't get addressed at any point during the season, obviously—but somehow I doubt it. Which is fine with me. It's prooobably better left to interpretation, and we never found out why Mike, Servo, et al had to stop being beings of pure thought when season 8 started either.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies. The first episode streamed early for Kickstarter backers.
During the Q&A session immediately afterwards, Baron Vaughn and Hampton Yount jokingly suggested an explanation for why Crow, Tom Servo, and Gypsy are back on the SOL: They built a ladder to climb back up to the SOL, just to get all the stuff they left behind when they evacuated. And then they decided to just move back in, because it was a pretty nice place.
So.
I can't believe Jonah's fucking dead.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.Just finished "The Time Travelers". Honestly, the movie itself wasn't that bad. Boring with some major padding, but honestly, a pretty good space-age sci-fi flick (and from what I heard, even better with the original ending, which the show cut off for some reason?)
That said, the riffing was still hilarious, and I've noticed that, with the Carvel ice cream cakes being mentioned in "Reptilicus", and used as the invention exchange in the second episode. Then, said second episode featured a riff about "Afterlife Alert", which was Kinga's invention in the third episode. Is this just a running gag, or is it foreshadowing for something?
Also, I'm not one of those people who goes gaga over Felicia Day (nothing wrong with those who do, of course), but for some reason, I can't get over how cute she is as Kinga Forrester. SO CUTE.
Kinga comes across as very much a mix of Pearl and Clayton though much more profit driven than either, Johnny Long Torso not withstanding.
I love the Dino Ranch bit, it's easily on of my favorite bits in the series.
It's still weird hearing Gypsy voiced by a woman.

To me it's weirder that she has enough computing power to converse (and riff) as a peer.
Fresh-eyed movie blogI'm quite enjoying it. Feels like it never left!
Quibble: There are a few places where the riffs get a little thick and our hosts sound kinda frantic. Could be just me, and maybe it gets better further on (I've only seen the first three episodes), but I want to tell the screen, "Guys, relax!"
Jonah's doing very well as host, and Felicia makes a great Forrester: just the right balance of menacing & pathetic.
Makes me sit up and pay attention to who's speaking. I always just let the riffs happen and ignore the silhouettes, and then a female voice chimes in.

Oh, you're far from the first person to complain about that. it's practically the number 1 criticism at the official MST 3 K discussion board.
From what I understand, this new style of what they call "rapid-fire" riffing is something that was pushed by the newer, younger cast. Joel Hodgson discreetly said in an interview he wasn't too okay with this.
Like creepy stories? Check out my book!

I'm wondering if they'll bother explaining what the bots have been up to all this time, why they're not with Mike, etc... though, knowing the show, I'm imagining Crow & Servo each telling some long, rambling story that doesn't actually explain anything.
