This RP needs more manly Norsemen, let me fix that.

  • Name: Buliwyf (Pronounced bull-vai)
  • Gender: Male
  • Age: Died at 36 and has long since lost track of how many years he's been dead.
  • Race: Einherjar.
  • Class: Hersir: Warfare/Defense
  • Appearance: Buliwyf stands a good 6'4" and wears an elaborate horned helm as well as a short-sleeved chainmail shirt. Buliwyf keeps his reddish-brown hair long with a few braids thrown in but keeps his beard relatively short, his arms are covered in complex knotwork tattoos as well as a the names of a few select gods in runes. Like all Einherjar, Buliwyf's eyes burn with a bright red light and he takes advantage of this aspect of his appearance to intimidate his enemies in battle.
  • Deity: Tyr

    • Blessed Weapons-Valor and Judgement: Valor is a Norse style longsword with an intricate design on the hilt and pommel as well as a magnificent pattern welded blade. Judgement is similarly decorated axe wielded in tandem with Valor.

    • Blessing: Both Valor and Judgement can cut through armour as if it were flesh and blood. This includes Buliwyf's armour as well as the armour belonging to any allies.
    • Spells/Abilities:
    • Call of Valhalla: Buliwyf summons a pair of Draugr warriors to fight at his side. The Draugr are more resilient to damage than regular men, but can still be slain.
    • Warrior's spirit: Buliwyf roars a mighty battle cry and ignores the pain of any wounds inflicted upon himself for a short period of time. While using Warrior's Spirit, Buliwyf may rush to the side of an ally in need to defend them from any and all blows.
    • Might of the Æsir: Buliwyf winds up with either weapon and unleashes a mighty blow that hits ten times as hard as usual, with the cost of temporarily weakening him.
    • Weapon familiarity: Due to decades of fighting in Valhalla, Buliwyf has learned how to use just about any weapon with relative ease.
  • Equipment:
    • Buliwyf's Warhorn.
    • A chainmail shirt and horned helmet.
    • A seax for general use outside of combat.
  • Personality: Buliwyf loves to fight and will never turn down an opportunity to take on a worthy opponent, whether in a fistfight or a full scale battle. The lifestyle of the Einherjar appeals to Buliwyf as he gets to do everything he loves on a near-constant basis, drink and eat mighty meals with his friends and fight in glorious battles. Buliwyf has a relatively friendly demeanor that drops the instant he enters battle, when he fights Buliwyf thinks only of how he plans to defend his allies and slay as many enemies as possible. But despite his good nature, Buliwyf is suicidally overconfident in his combat abilities and believes that he can defeat any enemy force, even if he's outnumbered 40-1.
  • Backstory:

Like most good Norsemen, Buliwyf was a warrior through and through who never backed away from a fight even if the odds were stacked high against him. Naturally, Buliwyf's overconfidence is what led to his death. During a raid, Buliwyf and his warriors stormed a fort packed to the teeth with raging Berserks and ended up getting most of his men slain in the charge. Undaunted, Buliwyf ordered his men to stand with him and work to overtake the fort or die in glorious battle. Now, Norsemen aren't cowards by nature, but they aren't stupid either so many opted to return to their longships and live to fight another day instead of staying and dying. Only twelve loyal friends stood at Buliwyf's side and they all fought to the last. Buliwyf was the first to fall, impaled on a spear as he ran to defend one of his allies.

But, it seemed that Buliwyf had caught the eye of the Valkyries and was quickly whisked off to Valhalla where he would enjoy his next several years of non-stop drinking, eating and fighting. Despite enjoying his life in the Hall of the Slain, Buliwyf wanted to fight in larger battles against new and unpredictable foes. Perhaps Buliwyf's anxiousness obvious to even the mighty Æsir, or maybe by their divine knowledge the Gods knew of Buliwyf's eagerness to face new foes. No matter how they found out, Buliwyf was approached by Tyr himself who asked Buliwyf if he grew weary of Valhalla. Buliwyf quickly explained that he simply wished to fight newer and more powerful opponents instead of those that he had been fighting for the past several decades. With that, Tyr handed Buliwyf Valor and Judgement, explained that he was sending him back down to Midgard to fight as much as he wished on the condition that Buliwyf defend mankind and it's allies from the approaching darkness and head to the ruins of Theoclea in Gaios where everything would be explained in greater detail. Not one to deny the gods, Buliwyf accepted and commenced his quest.

[up]Funny you should say that:

  • Chereen Whisperswift
  • Gender: Male
  • Race: Wood Elf
  • Class: Ranger: Hunting/Nature
  • Age 178
  • Appearance: 5'4": slender build, Silver hair bound in a braid but still long enough to reach his shoulders, blue eyes.
  • Deity: Uller
  • Blessed Weapon: Bow, Heartstrike
    • Blessing: Piercing. Basically armor doesn't exist for Heartstrikes arrows. Likewise if Chereen shoots at say a door or wall the arrow will go in to it's fletching.
  • Spells/Abilities:
    • Speed of the Deer: Allows him to run at incredible speeds
    • Beast Control: This spell lets him enter into an animals mind and body, seeing through it's eyes, hearing through it's ears and even controlling it's actions.
    • Natures Weaving: Grass, tree branches, bramble bushes, etc, all can be animated by this spell to grab and entrap foes, pick up things, make a wall etc.
    • Natures Healing: Can heal himself or others using herbs but the healing effect is vastly improved over what herbs would naturally do since they act as a spell focus rather than using their natural properties. Basically anything short of actual death can be cured.
  • Equipment: Mottled green/grey leathers, including hood, gillie suit, bedroll, couple days worth of dried food, water bottle.
  • Personality/History: Shorter, simpler and more straight forward than most of the others, Chereen has been a hunter since his childhood, and a warrior in what his people call The Long Retreat, before humans and their god. One day while on patrol he saw a white hart and followed it into a grove, where Uller, Norse god of the hunt made him his champion.

Stoic to the point of fatalism on the surface he has a fondness for what others might consider shocking and mischievous behavior at the oddest moments. Due to his battles with them he is not fond of humans.

I've got lots of comments for the three who just submitted but I'm busy with the holiday - I'll get to all of this later tonight.

@ Tricksterson: Since it's on my mind: If you want Whisperswift to be actually short, go for it, since I honestly prefer elves to be like 6" shorter than humans on average. I grew up with D&D 3rd ed., but I know most settings make them awkwardly tall. It's up to you.

Have elaborated a bit more on Natures Weaving and Natures Healing.

Okay, lots to respond to. Also, got a friend with that Hunting/Defense character on the way.

@ Tricksen: Okay, fine by me.

@ Nman: Blessed Weapon: Armor.
Fine, whatever. Nobody else better pull this.

Advanced Forging seems unduly complicated. You can probably just say that you can summon a temporary forge at which you work quickly, with quality, and can repair magical items.

Smelt: Seems useless without Advanced Forging. Either give it an additional effect that makes it useful outside the forge (projectile liquid metal), or roll it into Advanced Forging and free up a power slot.

Smith's Strength: This is good. You probably don't need to quibble about how much super strength you get.

Automaton Creation: Let's call it two human-sized soldiers or one eight-foot tall pseudo-colossus. And you're animating an Automaton you previously forged, not simply summoning one from the aether. Let's say the lower quality the metal used, the quicker you can put them together, (copper-bronze-iron). Most piercing damage is ineffective against them, so they're decent soldiers at any level.

Not going to make you change anything else, but who was Ishaq mining for? Is he just the only Falconman willing to go underground and supply the rest with weapons?

@ Eachiunn: Good to see the character from Ragnarok NOW! make a return. Though your hotlinked image didn’t work.

Onward, to Glory!: This seems like a copy of the Einherjar Inspire power. You have this for free, so you can free up this slot for something else.

Warrior's Spirit and Hero's Calling: I feel like neither of these are very powerful in their own right, so just add Hero's Calling as an optional effect to the other power and free up another power slot.

Might of the Æsir: Turbo-smash. Sounds good.

I'm thinking it was Odin who realized something bad was coming (what with the Allsight), and then passed it along to Tyr who decided he needed a good warrior on the ground when it happened. However, Buliwyf doesn't know what actually did happen, and some three (or so) decades have passed with eerie radio silence between when he was put on earth and when he got the call out of the blue to go to Theoclea.

@ Tricksterson: I like all your powers except Nose of the Wolf, which even still seems redundant on a Wood Elf.

With your Mastery combo, you could straight up turn into a wolf (or any animal) if you wanted. Or take the entire Werebeast Shapeshift/Regeneration array: other races' powers aren't off limits as chosen powers. However, that might merit adding a few lines to your bio.

Free up the slot for something good.

Cool, forging was worded a bit wonky to make sure it was clear he's not doing like, summoning shitloads of random weapons out of nowhere and launching them at people like arrows or something, but that description works way better.

Though I'm going to have to sleep on a fourth power and finish editing tomorrow. "Slam into stuff with armor" and "smith stuff" was all I wanted, I didn't have much need for more so I looked up the masteries on Titancalc for inspiration. How would something similar to Colossus Form or Stone Form work?

As for the other questions, I wasn't quite sure what scale to go for, but I was thinking there's just however many miners some city somewhere can support (or more accurately, more than they can support, given the living conditions of the poor) and he just mined metals that were used to build big statues of Ra. Because clearly the best way to make the gods listen is to make more statues of them.[lol] He wasn't a weapon or armorsmith, that's all Hephaestus' doing.

  • Name: Solhildr
  • Gender: Female
  • Age: 197
  • Race: Valkyrie
  • Class: Dawnbreaker:Spirit/Sun
  • Appearance: Flowing blonde hair poking out from a helm with a red plume. She wears the skirted armour of a Greek Hoplite, only her armour is a shimmering gold colour. In one hand she holds a spear, and in the other a mighty aspis shield. In battle a pair of flaming wings appears on her back, a nod to her former self.
  • Deity: Apollo
  • Blessed Weapon: Solrisae and Hopollo; a Shield and Spear combination blessed by the Greek God of music, poetry and the sun.
    • Blessing: Praise the Sun: Under the rays of the sun, the longspear Solrisae harnesses the power of the sun to drain life from nearby enemy's using a beam of light. This life force is stored within Hopollo as sunlight that can be dispelled upon allies or the wielder to heal wounds.
  • Spells/Abilities':
    • Blazing Steed from Helios, Aethondaughter: A noble tawny horse whose mane and hooves and wreathed in flames. Aethondaughter was born from one of the Helios's steeds. She capable of flight, can summon blazing streams of fire, and turn into a semi-intangible flame form that gives off sunlight.
    • Army of the Sun: Solhildr uses the life giving powers of the sun to summon a detail of Hoplite Wraiths. Unlike other Wraiths they Inspire allies instead of terrifying enemies and are partially corporeal, allowing them to fight physically. Individually they are weak, but their phalanx formation provides a formidable defence to those who cannot break their ranks.
    • Hermes-Crafted Lyre: Being a herald of the god of music and poetry had granted Solhildr with musical charms and chants. She can summon a lyre made of pure light and play it. When used on an ally or herself it grants that target a speed boost, when used on an enemy it slows them down and drains their health. All health drained is stored as sunlight in her shield.
    • Suncraft: Solhildr can create weapons or augment her own using sunlight, including shields, swords and spears. During sunny weather she can pull power directly from the sun, but in conditions where sunlight is not optimal she has to use the sunlight stored in her shield.
  • Equipment: Aside from her blessed weapons she has Xiphos, a short sword suited for close quarters and tight spaces, as well as a bow for long range attacks. A remnant of her days under the Asgardian pantheon she has a longsword that she no longer uses, stored away in her home. When not in her hoplite armour she prefers to wear the comfortable robes of a greek woman.
  • Personality/Backstory: Solhildr is strong, resolved, and authoritative. She believes a warrior is only as good as the people she surrounds herself with, and thus will only befriends those she sees as strong.

She was once a Valkyrie of an unknown name under the command of Odin of the Asgardians. It was her duty to judge whether warriors fallen in battle were to transcend to the great Hall in Valhalla in preparation for Ragnarok, the end of the world. She was secretly in love with the Sol, the sun itself, and wished to have her hand. However Sol was consumed by one of Fenrir's brood, Skoll which cast her into depression. She blamed the Asgardian's for not killing Skoll's father when they had the chance and fled from Asgard in her sorrow, losing her wings in the process.

She came upon the land of Gaios where she had found her sun again. Believing Apollo to be Sol reincarnated she pledged allegiance to the god of sun and music, becoming his herald and Valkyire. Taking on the name Solhildr as tribute to her former love she commands the forces of the sun in order to protect her newfound home.

Welp.

  • Name: Xyka Ulu
  • Gender: Male
  • Age: Xyka's body is in its physical prime, though like most of his kind he doesn't keep track of his age.
  • Race: Lizardman
  • Class: Hierophant. Hunting/Defense
  • Deity: Athena
  • Blessed Weapon: Gorgon's Wrath/Bane. A matching spear and shield. They appear to be made of bronze, but are much sturdier. The shield is spiked and both have serpentine designs embossed on them.
    • Blessing: Hand of Athena. When Xyka reels back to throw his spear, no material weapon leaves his hand; however, a beam of light extends forth and travels where his weapon would land. This impact is just as deadly as the spear's blade.
  • Spells/Abilities:
    • Bulwark: Xyka's scales become as durable as his matching artifacts. He attacks undeterred as all manner of weapons bounce off his metallic hide. Athena's grace is not permanent; however, and he may not stay in this form for any extended length of time.
    • Shield Charge: Xyka charges forward with his head lowered and shield raised. The spikes of his shield and those on his crest make for a fearsome sight as he closes in on his foes, undaunted.
    • Olympic Presence: Xyka lets out a high-pitched roar that inspires his allies, pressing them to greater feats of heroism as they clash with the enemy. His allies' offensive and defensive capabilities are improved for a short period.
    • Athena's Wisdom: Xyka was already a skilled hunter—with the blessings of Athena, his skill with spear and shield are unmatched.
  • Appearance: Xyka is large and powerfully built with scars covering his body. A flared crest adorned with small horns protrudes from his head, covering part of his neck. His scales are a milky color while the back of his neck and shoulders, extending down to the tip of his tail, are a much darker gray. He walks hunched over, making him appear no taller than six feet.
  • Equipment: Xyka wears armor crudely assembled with religious carvings and embellishments. Sewn and hacked together from bits of armor from unlucky Gaios soldiers, it looks ineffective, but serves the purposes of Xyka well. He also carries several nets, trinkets and traps on him.
  • Personality/Backstory: Xyka Ulu was once a hunter of his tribe. He and his other fellow hunters had been tracking a group of human soldiers for several days with the intent to rob and consume them. The lizardfolk cornered the humans inside a temple and made quick work of them. Before they set back to their camp, several shiny artifacts caught the attention of the hunters.

The lizardfolk curiously inspected the old relics in the temple, but their gazes soon landed upon the centerpiece: a particularly regal looking spear and shield, emblazoned with snakes, calling to them. Xyka stepped forth whereas his tribesmen stood still; he held the artifacts aloft and immediately heard the words of both Ares and Athena, fighting for dominance in his own mind. Ares promised Xyka physical might well beyond his imagination and a legion of combat ready warriors like himself to command. Athena, however, would deny her brother a champion. She would allow Xyka to carry these prized relics into battle and bestow her wisdom onto him so long as he swore himself to her. And should he succeed: immortality for him and any of his hatchlings. An offer to no doubt sway the primitive mind away from the more barbaric offer of her brother.

The others, fully aware of the divine exchange, looked to Xyka with new respect. He commanded that the tribe move to the temple and guard it in veneration of their new goddess. The tribal chief challenged his authority, but with his newfound power, Xyka easily killed him and assumed chiefdom. He guarded the temple for a time, and taught his kin the more honorable ways of Athena. But recently, further visions have instructed Xyka, and Xyka alone, to leave the temple and travel to a distant land.

Shit, I hadn't played TQ in ages, I forgot just how much stuff that was. I'd prefer not to have to deal with something as lopsidedly unbalanced as that. I was thinking it was just a more persistent change of some sort that makes it easier to defend his allies, but makes it much harder to attack. Perhaps he moves much slower due to his strength staying the same as his normal form, and can't fly very fast either? (As well as being a much bigger target for enemies to hit). Would something like that work? If so, how big should I make it. If not, I think I'll just go with Stone Form (but without the fire and stuff).

Also I'll pester JAU on Skype to see what's up.
