They're playing around with the order of things, I see. The side-trip adventure came later in the manga, after Izana became a regular pilot; Nagate's use of the new prototype against the Gauna attacking the settlers also came after at least a few test tries (so either days or weeks after the original visit to Sakaki and Toha Heavy Industries)...
The appearance of the Mass Union Ship Ocarina has been somewhat delayed, too, which makes this episode's ending somewhat abrupt, I think. Well, its appearance in the manga was rather sudden as well, so maybe it's just me.
Eaten by Guana. As dead as anyone else.
Manga spoilers: There's another character later on who gets eaten, wakes up inside the Guana hiveship, escapes, and then gets shot down by Sidonia because she's 16 meters tall and covered in tentacles. In other words there's the philosophical question of whether someone with all their memories, personality, and continuity of consciousness but a different body is still the same person. Answer is *shrug*

The original Hoshijiro got a PS/2 port opened on her head by the Gaunas to Ctrl+X Ctrl+V her information.
If you see me I'm on an accidental Archive Binge.
I havn't notice any difference in the characters, although I've sort of gotten used to everyone having a spotlight on their face all the time, so I complain about it less.
Why do they have anti-planet missiles anyway if they always get shot down?
So the final is them dueling undead Hoshi inside the giant Gauna before the planet-destroying missile arrives. I'll give them this: It's epic at least.

Man, the subs for the anime have been rather lacking. It's just a planet buster, not an 'exterminatus', I've no idea where that came from. Not to mention how at one point Hiroki's katana was referred to as a 'longsword'.
Anyway, just because a weapon doesn't always work doesn't mean it's useless. It's probably been of use in the past, even if the Gauna learned to adapt to them eventually.
coughs Cyclonic Torpedoes. cough
If it wasn't obvious already, exterminatus IS a 40k term, though I was as surprised as any why the subbers used it. Might be due to how a decree of exterminatus usually spends the end of a planet, or at least its viability in supporting life for several eons...

It's not even right. Exterminatus just refers to orbital bombardment to the point where there is no life on the planet(usualy from orbit, and with nukes or the like), rather than actually blowing the planet up. Of course, I havn't played 40K in years, so maybe they do have planet busters now.
I got a good laugh out of it I admit. The zombie council the captain talks to would fit in 40K.
Pretty much.
Word of warning, although Sidonia may be Nihei's most accessible work, it's still rather... difficult, at times. The story's somehow dense while still being simple, and although he's not as allergic to exposition as he used to be, there's still some moments when you'll be confused over and will want to reread.
Chapter 63 is published. Oh for the love of merde Tsumugi is entering Hoshijiro mode, complete with a sea trip.
If you see me I'm on an accidental Archive Binge.Aaaaand season finale, with an official announcement of season 2 in the end. Sidonia seems to be a strange case, especially after the fracas connected to the "leak" several weeks before — just seems that the production committee was dithering on a decision at that point, but in the end finally gave in.
Good, because the preview shows CGI Tsugumi in all her glory. Air date is 11/23. Roll on Autumn 2014!

So a fun adventure reveals creepy gauna-human thing.
The new engine and gun look utterly ridiculous and very effective.
Gauna Hoshijiro continues to be really creepy, but I find Nagate's behavior towards it even worse. please don't integrate her back into society at some point.
A new gauna appears 8,000 times the size of Sidonia...holy fucking shit!
