So the other day I did an experiment and played Oblivion's soundtrack on my earphones while I was walking the outside world.

And everything was beautiful. Walking wasn't walking anymore; it was an aesthetic experience. Everything seemed shinier and more... fulfilling?

So I went on to obtain the rest of The Elder Scrolls soundtracks, by the same composer. Even the darker songs worked for the more stressful environments, such as the subway, which is practically a dead-to-rights dungeon where I live.

So I was wondering, what other music, especially instrumental, do we have, that can make the world feel more beautiful and awesome and explorable? That turn a boring errand into a delight for the senses?

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

[up] Also by Soule, the Neverwinter Nights soundtrack is pretty similar to the Elder Scrolls ones, but with a bit more variety in tone. The Total Annihilation soundtrack is pretty laid back and relaxing.

I'm also a fan of Kai Rosencrantz's Gothic soundtracks. A few of the tracks from the Baldur's Gate games might also work.

I haven't tried it yet, but one of these days I'm going to pick a foggy night to go out on a walk while listening to the original Silent Hill soundtrack. I imagine it'd be like the experience described by the OP, but um, Nightmare Fetishist-er.

I just found out that the guy who did the soundtracks for Skyrim and Oblivion also did the soundtrack to Freddi Fish & Luther's Maze Madness, one of my favorite childhood games. My mind was blown.
